I do want to mention that our waitress was wonderful. She was friendly, attentive, and provided excellent service throughout our visit. She was the highlight of our experience, and my disappointment is solely with the food, not the service. I truly appreciate her kindness and professionalism. (The one star is because of her) I was really looking forward to trying the Dirty Bird, which is advertised as their signature Nashville hot chicken and waffles, but it was a major disappointment. The chicken tender wasn't spicy at all, so it completely missed the mark for Nashville hot chicken. The gravy tasted more like cream of mushroom soup than a flavorful chicken gravy, and it soaked into the waffle almost immediately, leaving it soggy instead of crispy. Overall, the flavors didn't work together, and this dish fell well below my expectations, Unfortunately, this experience was enough that I won't be returning or recommending this restaurant to others. read more

Wanted to try a new brunch spot and decided to give The Flying Biscuit Cafe a try. We were seated pretty quickly, but it took a while before anyone came to take our drink order. I ordered a Dr Pepper, but unfortunately it was completely flat with no carbonation. We also had multiple servers helping us throughout the visit, which made things a little confusing. When I asked for a water instead, the server seemed irritated. The food came out fast, which I appreciated. I ordered the chicken and waffles, but personally it wasn't my favorite and probably not something I would order again. VERY underwhelming. However, my friend ordered the hash and it was delicious! Overall, the food had some positives, but the customer service could definitely improve. I would consider coming back if the service was better. read more

This place is larger than I expected inside with a main eating area, a back eating area with 2 tables & some counter seating looking into the kitchen. I really wanted to love my food but it was just ok. The service was good. Food came out fast. The plates were warm to the touch as though they had been warmed up however, the food cooled off very quickly. I know breakfast food doesn't really hold heat but I don't typically notice. Unfortunately, shortly, midway during eating, my food was noticeably cooled off. Chicken sausage is highly seasoned with sage & salt. It has good flavor but was just a little chewier (tougher) than I prefer. Scrambled Eggs came cooked hard. Grits were creamy. Seasoned, with cheese. French toast is thick bread & the inside was very fluffy/soggy. Not sure if it was undercooked or intentionally cooked to be soft inside, reminded me of a soufflé. The pancakes were a little gummy to me. I'd give them another try but I'm not in a hurry. read more

I wouldn't recommend this location in Richmond, The food was just subpar to me I ordered steak and eggs with a side of grits. The cheese on my eggs was horrible and the potatoes tasted old and not hot at all. The steak was flavorful and that's the only thing I enjoyed. My grits were too creamy to the point it didn't even taste like grits. It took a while for someone to come from the back to seat us that right there should have told me that the food might not be good. They only had one couple in there and the waitress sat in the back. My son treated me to brunch here on Sunday afternoon- the place is nice and cheery, not busy at about 1pm. I ordered an omelet with French toast on the side, my son had a French toast plate with grits. Also beignet ball donuts. EVERYTHING WAS SO GOOD! Ambiance is cool with plenty of parking spaces. Friendly servers. Food was just meh to me. Bistro Chicken Benedict was too salty. Thinly sliced chicken was just too salty. Too much sodium for my liking. I heard another table complaining about how salty her breakfast plate was also. On the bright side, their Benedict pouched egg was cooked perfectly and the hollandaise sauce on top. Creamy grits is not my cup of tea but if you enjoy creamy grits, you may like it. It's one of those if you like it or don't like it, kind of food. I didn't hold it against them since I generally don't like it - the texture is like eating baby food. Stuffed strawberry French toast was originally the best I had here. However, I tasted it burnt and don't realized it till I finished the first portion. Overall good, I would recommend but check your French toast on both sides first. Sausage patties were meh. Just tasted like frozen patties. Nothing special. This place has the worse chicken and waffles that I've ever eaten. The flattened piece of tasteless chicken might as well have been cardboard. Absolutely flavorless. And the waffles were equally taste free. I imagine that this is what calories taste like if you eliminate all flavor. They graciously provided 1 packet of syrup which was barely enough to moisten 1/2 of these terrible waffles. I'm definitely never eating here again. On the bright side, the orange juice was delicious, but you really cant screw up orange juice. read more

This place is a nice casual and colorful breakfast cafe. Went for a late weekday brunch and had some wonderful cinnamon roll pancakes that were large and filling. It wasn't busy at the time we went so service was pretty quick. May come back again to try something else on their menu. read more

My friend and I came here for brunch for the first time. The staff is really friendly. The tables were a little wobbly, but I really like how they looked. They give a picnic feel. The food was quite dense, so it really filled us up . The Applebutter was really good, so make sure you get that to try it.. food is as good as it looks. I decided to try this cafe for brunch the other day and I have mixed reviews. The menu is not too small or too big, so I really liked that simplicity. We ordered biscuits and gravy, avocado toast and a biscuit egg sandwich. The bacon was great, the. Potatoes were good, and the eggs were very fresh. As for the biscuits, they were not fully cooked and were very gummy. I'm not saying the taste was bad but I would of liked for them to be done and cooked a little longer. The avocado toast was okay but didn't taste super fresh. The toast itself was a little burnt. It just didn't taste as fresh as it should have. The service was very good. We ate in the bar area and our waiter was very friendly and provided great service. I just wish the food was a little fresher for the price we paid. When you are a restaurant who builds everything the biscuit, the. Biscuits should be cooked fully and other items should taste a little fresher. I don't know if I would run to try this again. Our waitress was nice but forgetful, she basically forgot to place half our entree orders in to the kitchen so we had a long wait. This was discovered after she surprisingly brought us the check while the kids were eating. She was very apologetic but no restitution was made. The manager came by while we were waiting for our food about 45 min after we had placed our order initially. When he inquired on whether everything was ok and we told him we were still waiting on our food he said "oh ok" and quickly left the table. No apology, offer to check on it or anything. So what was the point of asking? The food itself was fine, not spectacular. I liked the biscuit the best. Fluffy and soft. Pancakes and waffles were good. Pancake is thin w crispy edges which is how I like them. My veggie scramble was a little bland/under seasoned. The fried green tomatoes are not great so would skip these for sure. First time here. The staff was lovely. Kind, helpful and attentive. The restaurant is cute and clean. Lots of options on the menu. I enjoyed the honey butter chicken biscuit. The cheesy scrambled eggs were good, not super cheesy but still good. There were two chicken tenders. The breading was decent not too thick. The grits were smooth & creamy. Not as thick as I normally prefer but still tasty. Husband enjoyed the sausage & biscuits. The gravy was a little thin but full of flavor. We both tasted the moon dusted potatoes. I'm totally recreating these at home. Yum! We chose pork bacon but they offer turkey bacon, too. The only reason they earned 4 stars instead of 5 is the temperature of the food. For a "biscuit" restaurant, I would say they got their recipe from an 1870's wagon train hard tack cook. They were dry and crumbly. The chicken sausage patties were the same. Yes, chicken can be dryer than pork, but I have never been forced to use a knife to cut through a sausage! The cheesy grits had no flavor other than the knob of butter I mixed into them. Nice patio. Waitress spilled my latte on my table which spilled onto my legs and toes. She gave my giant napkins and moved me to a table next to me. I ordered fried green tomatoes(it was ok), the hot chicken and waffles (chicken strips were skinny but tasty, waffles were perfectly cooked crispy on outside, soft inside. Slightly sweet). My daughter had the chicken strips and it came with collard greens bc they ran out of Mac n cheese. They didn't tell us until the food came out. We requested they replace it with home fried potatoes. We were in the Richmond area looking for a new spot came across this place. Reviews seem to be good. Walked in lots of people there. Notice the floor is supper slippery, liked they used the kitchen mop to clean the floors. Also when they sat us down there was food all over the floor, maybe cause the people just left. But when they came to clean the table no one cleaned the floor. We order the High Flying. And Flying Biscuit Breakfasts, the star of these two was the pancake. The pancake was really good, but I won't return just for that. Grits were gooey and tasteless... Eggs were greasy! Biscuit was dry. About 30 minutes, after we ate, paid and left my stomach was saying run to the bathroom... Yup it was that bad... rule of thumb... if the floors are slippery, floors are dirty, and bathroom is dirty turn around and walk out. read more

Only reason I am not giving 5 stars is the fact that the service was a tad slower and my order was not correct (but was still delicious). My family and I ordered the chorizo hash, build your own grits bowl, strawberry cheesecake stuffed French toast, and the Georgia peaches waffle meal and each of them was so yummy! The grits and homemade biscuits were soooo good! Even my kids ate every last bite of their meal and kids eat free M-F! I'll definitely be back!
