Total relaxation is SO hard to find these days. Even when we try to have time to ourselves, there is still our tendency to play with the iPhone/iPad, listen to music, read,...whatever. Imagine being able to take a break from literally ALL sensory input and let your mind and body relax.
Enter the experience at The Float Spot. A place where you can find TOTAL escape from everything and a fantastic way to reset your mind and body.
Concept
The idea is simple. Give people an ability to safely remove all the exterior inputs (noise, light, worries, stress) using a HUGE pod style tank of warm, calming water. The water is 10-12 inches deep and contains a high concentration of magnesium and salts which instantly keep your body floating. No children's arm floatees needed here. Your body will automatically rise in the water, giving you the feeling of weightlessness and escape from gravity. For those with claustrophobia, you CAN control whether or not the pod door is closed or remains open. You also have a calming blue light in the tank which you can keep on or switch off at any time. The experience is TOTALLY SAFE and you're in control 100% of the time.
My experience
I joined some co-workers at The Float Spot for a team building activity. We were greeted by the owner Ray and shown around the spa. Now I'm somewhat of a germ-a-phobe so I was happy to see how this place is extremely clean. No trash, no clutter and all of the float pod rooms and equipment are hygienically disinfected, cleaned and prepared for each customer. The water in the pod is filtered and crystal clear.
Tip: Before floating, I DO strongly recommend the full "dry" hydro massage. It seemed to really relax me first before going into the float and helped to relieve any of my first time anxieties.
When the time came to float, I found myself wondering if I could actually get in and enjoy it. It took all of about 4-5 minutes to get in, get comfortable and get to a point where all my thoughts, anxieties, worries, and stress began to slowly unravel. And then the magic started happening. Its hard to describe, as everyone's experience will be different, but as I was laying there, floating in the water, my mind started to wonder...then it started to focus...not on a particular worry or a problem, but on just me...the sound of my breathing and of my heartbeat. How natural and basic it was, but necessary for my life. And for the next 60 minutes, that's all I thought about...not about work, or emails or things I had to get done. It was all about me...and that's exactly how it should be!
Finishing up the hour, getting up and rinsing off, I found myself feeling so mellow, relaxed and reset. I felt as if I had slept for a couple of hours, but not groggy. I didn't have the desire to immediately check my phone or emails. I was just there. Calm, relaxed and feeling amazing for the rest of the night.
Conclusion
Float is an amazing way to re-center your body and your mind and I expect that I will continue going every week or so to just get away from it all and to feel whole again. The Float Spot effectively creates this sensory oasis in a world full of crazy. I do recommend if it's your first time, to take the time to look around the spa, get the hydro massage to loosen you up and then just go for it. You'll walk out with a refreshed mind and body and soon you'll be going back for more bliss!
