I met Sean who is one of the owners, and he was so nice answering all of my questions about their services and bike tune ups. He was patient and incredibly helpful, I was blown away. Having just relocated from SF which has a multitude of bike shops all over city, it was refreshing to walk into a place and not be treated like I was simply some number in line. Allow me to explain the differences. Attitude: SF= snooty, sometimes downright rude and pretentious hipsters who you know make fun of your yuppie PUBLIC bike when you drop it off for a tune up. I know it's not "cool" and heralds a hip lifestyle of riding the streets but I like it and you should respect that. The Ride= Sean was pleasant and smiled and said bring it in, we can tune it up no problem. Costs: SF= they will charge you an arm and a leg ($100+) and not tell you what the work entails. My tire was flat in a week and wanted to charge me another $100 to repair it !?!? OR they try to give you the wrong bike back that isn't yours. Seriously, it happened to me. The Ride= I haven't dropped my bike off yet but I was quoted $55 and whatever parts or extras would be run by me for approval before being charged. I'd tune my bike up more often and keep it riding better at that price! The Ride is a small locally owned business. And it's important to support such great people who only want to help their neighbors and provide excellent customer service. If they don't have it, they can order it for you or provide suggestions. I saw a GORGEOUS bike from a brand called Simcoe which looks amazing. And these guys are the only ones in the area to carry it. Sacramento seems to have a bike friendly culture, but it's attitude about biking is less pretentious and people bike because they seem to enjoy it not because it's some political statement. So go take your bike that you love and have the owners at The Ride take care of you and your happy healthy ride!

During my lunch, I've been taking my bike to various bike shops around the midtown Sacramento area to browse around and ask general cycling questions or assistance with my bike if I feel like something doesn't feel right. Overall, my experience with various shops have been just okay. I would get the feeling that because I do not have an expensive bike, that I'm looked at differently. However, with Pacos, the staff here are EXTREMELY friendly and helpful. I brought my bike in with some concerns regarding my gears shifting, and Pancho took my bike onto the rack to inspect it. I was prepared to be given a diagnosis and perhaps a quote to see how much they would charge if I had them fix/adjust it for me. Instead, Pancho just took it upon himself to make these micro adjustments himself and even identified that my front derailleur was crooked and my front wheel was loose. Again, Pancho just made those adjustments himself to make sure everything was properly before I left the store. On top of that, I was not charged a dime. Totally unexpected, but highly appreciated! Fast forward to my second time coming to this shop, I was greeted by different staff. Yet, it was still the same high, friendly energy as the last time. Ayrton was there to assist and help me identify and issue I was having with my brakes. The way he spoke to me and went above and beyond to find answers he himself didn't know was much appreciated. Ayrton is a very friendly and outgoing guy and made sure I was taken care of before I left. The culture and energy of the staff here have been a fantastic experience and I highly recommend any cyclist to visit this store! Their inventory was impressive, the store is spacious and clean, and if I ever need cycling services, I am definitely coming back.

Later, I received an email from Velofix saying the time was actually 11 AM-1 PM, but I didn't notice the change right away. On the morning of the appointment, I called Velofix to clarify, and the representative told me it was too late to adjust anything and that I should've contacted them earlier. I let it go and agreed to keep the 11-1 window, rearranging my work schedule to be available. No one showed up. At 1:30 PM, I had to call my wife to let her know, and she followed up with Velofix -- only to be told the case had been closed because the service was "out of scope." No one informed me. I was literally on the phone with them that same morning and they said nothing about not coming. This whole experience showed a complete lack of communication and disregard for people's time. I won't be using Velofix again and wouldn't recommend them.

Don't even get me started on the attitude of the shop workers at Mike's Bikes in Folsom. SO RUDE. From booking the appointment to the actual service (by Wayne) the experience with Velofix was very friendly and professional and easy. Not to mention their rates were comparable to the shops where we had to haul the bikes in ourselves. To have the service come to you, have it fixed in under an hour, and everyone to be friendly about it? I didn't think this was possible! Also, after the last flat tire repair, where the shop had the bike for weeks, the bike did not sound the same. According to Wayne, whoever put our bike back together didn't do it properly and there were a ton of loose nuts etc. which I 100% believe because the bike did not sound the same when we were riding it. Wayne tightened all that stuff up for us (thanks Wayne!). Anyway, all around a great experience and we know who will be getting our business from now on. Also, to anyone researching bike repair places, I highly recommend looking on the bike manufacturer's website to see their recommended repair shops. Velofix was recommended by Rad Bikes and you can really tell the difference when someone is comfortable working with a particular bike brand.

I had to stay in line so I wouldn't buy it as I really don't need more clothing. I am such a shopper and keep buying new clothing all the time. Earlier in this week I went shopping with my girlfriend and came home with a Oakland A's T-shirt and a dress. I now have enough dress that I can wear a new one every Sunday to church for 3 months. And as for tops. I have so many of them. Just 2 weeks again I was sporting my REI pants. You know those hiking kind that are light weight and zip off to make them into shorts. It was perfect for our service project of moving bark in a local park. I love the clothing I buy at REI they are functional and cute. One of my favorite sweaters is from REI. It's a rust colored sweater that is tight weave so it keeps me tasty warm. I do have to admit that I find REI to be pricy, but the quality lives up to their reputation, and the return policy is amazing .In addition if you are a member shipping is free. I am a fan of shopping on line so they have their hooks in me. My last shopping spree was on a quest for finding the best compression socks for traveling. I'm planning on 20 hour Amtrak trip and have read that if you sit for long periods of time while traveling compression socks can help. I'm not familiar with compression socks. There are so many different types of compression socks available. It's hard to choose the best ones. And the price range and styles really vary. While at REI last month I saw some being sold and I trust REI so I thought I'd buy a pair. But, due to the price I wasn't ready to take the plunge. In store they sell Sockwell brand socks for around $32.95. Quite pricy in my mind. I went online and check out my options and they had last year's model for only $23.93. Not a lot as starting from over $23, but still a savings of $9.02. Better than nothing. I can't believe how expensive compression socks are. I bought one pair online and they arrived. Then I realized that two pairs would be better so I can wear one in each direction in the trip and I wouldn't have to hand wash them. This is a total splurge as lots of people handwashing while on vacation. In the end I bought a 2nd pair online, a different color, but the same style of socks. Shipping was free and I got the same $9.02 discount. Then I got a coupon in the mail, $10 off of a $50 purchase so I needed to use it. So I rebought the socks grabbbed a third pair to get it up to the $50 ($56.58) range thus the 3rd third pair only costs $10, what a deal. Not that I need the 3rd pair. The only time I plan on wearing these when I travel so it's not like they are going to wear out. I'm too much into a bargain. You now probably want to know how they are working out for me. To be honest it's summer and between mid 80's to over 100 so I haven't had a chance to try them out. I know to bad. I only washed one pair so I can still try them on and figure out if I want to keep the other 2 pairs. I can always return them if the one pair doesn't work out for me. That's what I love about REI, they have such a great return policy.
