I love this CrossFit box so much, I don't even know where to begin! As a personal trainer myself, I'm no stranger to fitness, but my background didn't come close to the "constantly varied, high-intensity" style of fitness that is CrossFit. My most recent background leading up to The Combine was bodybuilding. And I had gotten into such a rut with the commercial gym monotony... A couple of folks I knew started encouraging me to check out a CrossFit class...In fact, they'd been trying to get me to go for WEEKS, ha. Admittedly, I was hesitant. One because I had "trainer ego" and felt like I HAD to be good at everything. And two, because I had never done any Olympic weightlifting and knew my endurance and conditioning was essentially non-existent. Ultimately, I decided I had nothing to lose and everything to gain, so I gave it a go. WHOA. I don't remember the exact workout I did that first day...all that stands out is that it finished with 50 wall balls. Before then, I had never done more than 15 wall balls at a time, ha. But for being the new kid on the block, just dropping in to TRY CrossFit, the members fully embraced me from the get go. The coaches and members were super friendly, entirely supportive and gave me the extra motivation I needed to push through a rather grueling first day. And I love them for it! Many of these same people have become great friends of mine. It's amazing how quickly you're able to bond with complete strangers when you're all working towards the same goal. Being a personal trainer for eight or so years, one who is a stickler for form, technique and thorough instruction, I was very impressed with the coaching at The Combine. Even though I have an above average knowledge base of movement, they consistently preach a "safety first" philosophy of "form + technique is more important than weight." I appreciate that very much, especially since oly lifting was a new art form for me...and I imagine it is for many folks. Coach Bane has a great eye for correcting form and technique and an expansive understanding of how to modify movements for each person, as needed. Furthermore, it's nice-- maybe even more so as a trainer who's responsible for everybody else's exercise programming--that I'm able to walk in and have an efficient and effective workout already planned each and every day. That said, Coach Robert does a phenomenal job programming for the various programs that The Combine offers...from the regular CrossFit classes to the Young Athletes, Joules/Watts strength series and even competitors' classes! I respect and appreciate all that The Combine offers me--this mighty gem, which by the way is also an awesome converted space with historic value--that I've now been a regular presence at since October 2013. This gym is one of a kind. Not only is it unique and rad, (and clean), the members here are incredible. It's a very family, friendly but competitive environment for first timers/beginners to the seasoned crossfit champs. The owner, and all the coaches know everyone by name, which really makes this gym more of a community. Everyone is so friendly, and willing to help out if you are struggling in a movement, or lacking in motivation. I credit my success thus far in crossfit, not only to the coaches, but also to those in my classes who shout all things motivating "you got this" "keep going" "push yourself". What I also love about this gym is that they offer a community work out 1x a month for friends and family to come try a class for free! that's pretty cool. They also hold a monthly happy hour for all the members to socialize and get to know each other, especially the ones that aren't in the same class as you! This place is great, from the moment I walked in to check the gym out till the moment I left was a sense of professional and dedication. A guy named Robert showed me around and he explained that a CrossFit affiliate CSC " The Combine " operates out of their open floor space on certain times throughout the day. Which is great but sometimes I cannot make the scheduled times but he explained that it's open gym during gym hours and you can even use the bumper weights when the CrossFit classes aren't in process. This is great, I found a gym that doesn't get mad when you drop weight on the floor which seems small but is a big deal for a lot of people. I signed up for one of the many tiers they offer and can't wait to get back on track with taking a step closer to my health goals. Now it's on me to follow through, oh boy! read more

BUYER BEWARE! Do not sign up with this gym. I signed up with them two weeks before COVID hit and then they shut down the gym. I didn't want to come back under the crazy rules they had to follow by the state and also worry about getting COVID since my daughter is high risk. They wanted us to come back and pay our monthly fee with no bathrooms and half the classes!! Plus they were not following any of the rules about wiping the equipment down. Needless to say I was not going back and here is the kicker .... they made me pay a full cancellation fee of over $800!!!! I worked out for two weeks, maybe 10 classes for $800. These people, Robert (the owner) and Eric (the manager) are crooks!! Stay away from this gym! Don't come here unless you like to be taken advantage of. Karma is a bitch. Theirs is coming. read more

I can't recommend Combine enough, I was dealing with a major injury and feeling a little lost on my options to remain physically active in the gym, as well as my day to day life, and I was fortunate enough to find Combine. With Robert and Kady's help, I am feeling better than I have in years, and am once again physically active. The staff has been more than willing to alter any of the daily work outs to accommodate my injuries, so that I could continue my recovery without feeling left out on the work out. The staff, the building, and the members are all top notch. The classes are no joke, its hard work, but with the support of the staff and the other members, its all worth it. I sleep better, I am eating better, and I have as much energy as my 6 year old. Thanks to everyone at Combine, well done! read more

In an ever changing fitness environment I want to thank and recommend The Combine for its constant ability to manage keep up and protect its athletes. I have been a member here for 6 years now and have needed modifications frequently past couple years in which not one time have I felt depleted or discouraged for my lack of ability during an injury(injury created outside of gym). In fact more encouraged to do things that are of my ability and protection. CSC goes above and beyond to make old and new members or visitors feel completely at home, comfortable and safe! The best gym in Atx! Robert is the by far the most knowledgeable coach I've ever worked with. You walk into so many crossfit gyms and the coach/owner just has a level 1 certification and no real experience or educational background in human physiology. That's how people get hurt. When you workout at The Field House you can be assured you are working with professionals that know what they are doing and know how the body is designed to move. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced athlete, The Field House has so much to offer all fitness levels. It's also probably the nicest crossfit gym I've ever seen. read more

Great coaching and a super fun and supportive community. CrossFit classes offer challenging programming with lots of variety and scaling options so that beginners and competitors can put in work and have a blast together. Joules Watts program offers additional classes that complement daily CrossFit programming for people interested in additional strength work, conditioning, and improving on skilled movements. Best CrossFit gym around--whether you're a beginner or a seasoned competitor, the Combine has it all! The Coaches are phenomenal and know how to bring the best "athlete" out of everyone--from beginner to competitor!! Since joining Combine I've seen a tremendous improvement in my fitness. Having attended multiple crossfit gyms, I would say Combine has been the best experience. At my age (50), it is very important to have someone who is able to push you past your limits without injuring you. Robert has the knowledge and experience to do that. Felt very welcomed as a guest traveling through town. I tried yoga, crossfit, & women's boot camp. ALL instructors were helpful and class members were warm and welcoming.
