Reliably great food every time I've been, with a nice mix of vegetarian and carnivore fare. I had an avocado melt with tater tots (I ordered fresh garlic on those tots, and they rocked), and my husband had wings and the veggie plate. He reports that the wings are breaded, which he normally doesn't care for, but the flavor was pretty great. The veggie plate came with a generous portion of creamy hummus (house-made, I think). We were both really happy with our food. The service has always been good, in my experience. On this particular visit, a party of 20 was taking over the place and were unhappy that they all couldn't sit together. (Uh, guys? I got the feeling you'd been here before- is this really the first place you think of for a PARTY OF 20?? It's the size of my living room.) 3.5 stars. You know, I just can't get behind the Feve. I've been here for brunch, dinner, and bar food, and it's just ok. They have plenty of options, many of them seasonal, which is great. But the flavor and delivery, it just seems like regular bar food to me. For brunch, I had a vegetarian egg options. It came with a large salad, which I appreciate, but it was less of the main and more salad. I can appreciate the creative and ever-changing brunch menu though, so if anything, I would say come here for brunch. For dinner and bar food, I've had the fried fish and the portabello mushroom sandwich. Both were really average to me. On the plus side...their service is great. For a larger party, they accommodated us upstairs (order at the bar) and when I thought they had forgotten part of our order (tator tots) they were quick to replace them (even though it was my mistake at the end of the day.) For fried food, it's addictingly good with large portions, but again, not super unique to other bar food. I guess I'll just have to keep trying..! read more

I don't live in Oberlin anymore but sometimes I wish I did just because I miss The Feve so much. Brunch: Feve Brunch literally cannot be beat. Try as I might, I have yet to find a place that comes anywhere close to The Feve. I love how the menu changes every week. I love the special pancakes. I love how they post the menu on Facebook on Thursday night to get you excited about brunch that weekend. (Though, honestly, now that I've moved away the weekly posting of the brunch menu is almost tragic because I know I will never get to enjoy it!) Bar: During my senior year at Oberlin, I--like pretty much everyone--thoroughly enjoyed hanging out at the Feve's upstairs bars. The daily specials are great, especially Happy Happy Hour which is a great, cheap way to unwind on a Friday afternoon. Happy Happy is usually really busy, though, so I'd say my favorite specials are Monday's Happy Hour all night and Thursday's Shots & Tots. (Tots! The best tots in the world! Get the danimal seasoning!) I was also consistently impressed with the beer selection. It changes a lot and they get a good variety of local stuff and far-flung breweries. Great place with something for everyone! Family friendly place for brunch, lunch or dinner. Cool hang out with a group of friends upstairs. Drinks are very affordable and they have a monthly selection of beers on tap. You have to try the tater tots - good on their own, amazing with your choices of spice blends sprinkled on top. They are known for their burgers, but they will make any sandwich vegetarian. Salads are delicious as are the appetizers. Our family is a big fan of the weekend brunch. My wife and I went in at around 12:30 on a Thursday. Sat at the downstairs bar since upstairs doesn't open until 5:00. The bartender gave us a couple of menus and told us what the soup of the day was. She didn't offer us any water or ask if we wanted anything to drink. After that we were ignored. About five minutes after we sat down three ladies sat next to us. They were given glasses of water and menus. Maybe another 10 minutes and bartender was taking the ladies order that sat down after us. So my wife and I left and went somewhere else to eat. This is only the second time the service has been bad. The other time was upstairs shortly after being able to reopen during the pandemic last year. And even then, it was just slowness on drink refills, not being totally ignored. read more

The rather large Mediterranean plate appetizer was fresh and yummy, especially the falafel and hummus. Why did I give this place a 3-star in 2010? What the hell was I thinking. The bar specials upstairs are to die for if you are on a budget. I mean, what can be better then getting buzzed without spending more than $10? The new menu (as well as the classic menu) features many tasteful food. Personally, I would get the burger with the mango chutney (I forgot the name of the burger but trust me, its there) or the Brunch Burger. Speaking of brunch, their brunch special changes every week so it can be a gamble trying out their different menus but 9 out of 10 times, you'll end ordering something delicious. Just beware of the Vietnamese Sandwich if it is ever on the menu again. Now to the sides (and yes, that includes wings). Now, I love the lemon pepper wings at WingStop but I'm not going to drive all the way to Mentor for that and the best wings here are the dry rub wings. Their sauced base wings are okay, not the best in the world, but definitely good but their hot wings were not hot at all. I have a love/hate relationship with tots. If you can't handle college kids (and their rowdiness), I would seek another place while college is in session. read more

Had a work trip here a couple of weeks back [living in Boston area now] and had to meet my boss for lunch - she picked the place as she had a meeting with some "socialists" in the afternoon on campus [apparently there is a liberal college in town - didn't really look into it and I listen to a lot of Ted Nugent in the car]. Can't really complain about her lifestyle since she's paying my bills! Opted to order the lime chicken salad [going on a "health kick" after being diagnosed as a diabetic per WebMD] and was blown away by its flavor. The service was nothing short of lovely and they look to have some great local beers on tap. Couldn't drink any though since my boss was with me [managed to sneak a few pulls of Wild Turkey from my flask in the bathroom]. Will definitely come back when visiting family in the area! read more

Brunch here is always exceptional. The food that is. If you're dining alone, expect to be invisible. Once seated, you will not be approached for awhile. Once approached, your order will not be taken for quite awhile. Then once served, you will not be asked how things are, for quite awhile. 30 minutes after receiving my food, I was asked how WAS everything. I said my eggs needed salt, and I would have killed for syrup for my, now cold, pancake, and would have loved more coffee. He asked if I wanted butter with my pancake, my reply was, "I don't think it will melt" However, 2 or more guests, mean bigger bill, thus bigger tip. This is most certainly a college spot. You'll get the vibe as soon as you walk through the door. It's not a bad thing, just the vibe of the joint. To some extent, I actually appreciate that vibe. There's no TVs on the wall, sports-bar nonsense, or coffee-shop couches. It's a place that ditches the frills of a want-to-be fancy restaurant to serve tasty food to the college crowd; It's a place to get decent food and engage in conversation. Service was attentive and friendly. If I were still a college kid, I would probably give this place four or five stars. At this point in my life, it seems just average, or maybe 3.5 stars. I stopped in to meet some people for brunch on a Sunday and the experience was just fine. The pancakes are great. They even make a special pancake that changes regularly. They were serving fish and chips pancakes when I visited. I wasn't brave enough to try it--I couldn't shake an image of perch mixed into pancake batter. I shouldn't have been scared because they used fried fish and fries as a topping to the pancake. It looked good. I had the apple caramel pancakes, which tasted great. The pancakes aren't the fluffy Bisquick batter pancakes you might see at other breakfast joints. These had a more hardy mouth-feel and they were a bit thinner than what you get from iHop or Denny's. It reminded me of the homemade pancakes my grandmother used to make from mixing a little bit of buckwheat into the batter. read more

I have eaten at the Feve three times and I have yet to be disappointed by anything. In fact, it is the only restaurant in Oberlin that I insist on visiting every time I am in town. The food is delicious, the service friendly, the atmosphere fun, and the prices reasonable. I have enjoyed burgers, salads, salmon omelettes, tater tots, and more. Everything is always fresh and tasty, and the folks in the kitchen seem to be equally adept at churning out delicious pancakes during the weekend brunch as they are pulled pork sandwiches on a weekday evening. That kind of versatility is something that I don't find often in a restaurant. I cannot speak kindly enough of the Feve and the great people and yummy food that you will find there.
