As Oberlin residents we've been coming here for close to 30 years. Although not lately except for brunch which is usually fabulous. We had a very subpar meal this last time. Burger overdone and barely warm. Dry wings. Really dry. Measly portion of fries compared to prior visits. Smaller rectangular plates - probably to help compensate optically for the smaller portions. Always good for a strange time. This man lookin like he wants to murder; a barstool mate speaking loudly on the phone to a girl who didn't remember him n he was trying to get her to. Food was good got BLT and crab cake sam. My draft Beer was 3.25 on happy hour! ( shorts humalumpalicious ipa lolll) got pita and hummus for side . Hummus was delicious but pitas should have been toastier. Upstairs is pretty sweet laid back vibe with windows overlooking Main Street. Life saver for my husband on his birthday. We came here from 27 miles away as we couldn't find a vegan-friendly place for breakfast/brunch. My husband ordered the Thai salad entree with a bowl of fruit. I went a la carte and ordered the Yukon potatoes, veggie sausages, multi-grain bread and a bowl of fruit. My husband actually enjoyed his meal which was big. I couldn't complain and was very happy to be able to pick items a la carte. Oberlin needs more of this. read more

Great Surprise in this small but progressive little town. The atmosphere is upbeat, progressive, and very friendly. Great mix of casual dining (definitely not 'bar food'), and a friendly bar area. Staff is friendly and helpful and provide great suggestions. Started our lunch with Avocado Wedges and Sauerkraut Balls - both perfect and consumed quickly !! Washed them down with a Thirsty Dog Barktoberfest, lemonade, and a glass of wine! (3 of us). Main course was Buffalo Shishtawouk, Gyro Burger and Turkey Reuben. ALL 3 were top choices and would get them again. Service was super fast friendly and made it more fun. Fun music and conversation fill the restaurant and although we were there for lunch, I bet this is a great place for a date or hanging with friends. Heard their Sunday brunch was really good so my wife and I decided give it a try today. Great decision! Really interesting selections on the menu as well as old standards. The corn chowder was incredible as an appetizer and everything we ordered was delicious. Suz had the breakfast sandwich ( egg, cheese, kale, chicken sausage gravy on a soft chibatta roll with gold Yukon potatoes on the side) and I had the "one-two-three" (1 pancake, 2 eggs, 3 slices of bacon with potatoes on the side). The service was also fast and friendly. Have eaten dinner here a few times and have never been disappointed. The Feve is one of our "go to" places. Such an amazing place!! The staff is incredible, the food is amazing (definitely worth the wait on a busy night). Definitely try the brunch! It changes every weekend!! There are a ton of vegan and vegetarian options as well as some gluten free options. Everyone raves about the tator tots but I prefer the fresh cut rosemary fries. Great happy hour (downstairs 4-6 and upstairs 5-7 usually). Always rotating draft beers (different on each floor). All the people there are like family to me. read more

We ordered a variety of food for take it. We arrived before it was ready but the wait want long however, there were other issues. The Thai peanut wings were tasteless, the buffalo chicken wrap's chicken was overcooked and dry with very little sauce, the French fries were so dropping in gear they were soggy from the start, and the sauces we paid good money for came in the tiniest portions ever seen. Alternatively, the onion rings were spectacular as well as the salmon sandwich, which was cooked to perfection. We've had burgers her before and really enjoyed them but this time was a huge let down. read more

Ohhhh Feve, I have been delaying writing this sappy review! The Feve has become our Cheers! Yes, where everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came. And it feels like that each time. We're "locals" so like many of us we come here more than we'd like to admit. The staff are all awesome! Each and every employee! When I sit down, anyone who serves me always gives me a big glass of water w lemon and my son his Ginger Ale. They greet us by name and chat w us - enough to be friendly, but not so much that it feels like anyone is hovering, or like you have to chat. I will admit bc everyone is so awesome, sometimes it is great to sit at the bar and just catch up! We most often come for the weekend Brunch. The menu is incredibly varied and changes each weekend. It's a busy, busy place so be prepared to wait. I was told recently Saturdays are typically slower than Sundays. In my experience 11a-1p is the busiest. After 1:30p they may be out of the more popular items - doesn't happen consistently, but definitely something to be aware of. While I'm not a drinker, I have noted their beer selection is constantly changing. When I've come w beer lovers, they are always impressed w the vast selection on tap. Weekdays lunch can get very busy as well, often w a wait. When I come for weekday lunches, usually w colleagues, we try to get arrive before the noon rush. The food is always fresh, always prepared as described, and as ordered. Their soup is always homemade, and any soup I have tried has always been excellent. The Feve is locally owned and operated. It's a family business who are on-site and engaged in all aspects of the business. Many of the employees are interconnected as well. It's a tight-knit group. While I don't know from personal experience, I have been told the owners treat their employees very well. I imagine its true as everyone is always happy and there in very little employee turn over. Really great food, service, music, and atmosphere. There's a ton to choose from on the menu, my mom and I got burgers and tater tots, I had the bacon avocado burger and it was amazing, only wish I had another stomach because I was only able to finish half, my mom loved her bacon Swiss portobello and loved it even though it was suuuper messy! The tater tots are a must, I got the "stinky" garlic ones and my mom Danimal ones that are super spicy! They have great cream soda here and the staff is all friendly/attentive/cool! All you five star "Feve Does Not Rhyme With Beave" reviewers? A few quick questions: Are you reviewing the beer list only? The beer list is wonderful, chock full of variety and a few surprises, and if you're on your last buck a can o' PBR is right there for you. As a bar, this place is just great. Are you reviewing the service? Nice folks, sure, in that "Oh, hey. You didn't get menus? I'll go talk with Hector..." way. Ten minutes later, "Dude! He never came over?" Sure. That's certainly service, if by "service" you mean "pocket full of excuses." Are you reviewing the atmosphere? Brick walls full of art make the place look less like small-town Ahia, but they do not make up for college bar bathrooms, down the stairs, through the sticky hallways. Yeeewww. I'm not sqeamish, but. Yeeewww. The tables and chairs in the dining area seem to be moved after each party leaves, making for an interesting little hoe-down during a meal. If by "interesting" you mean "STOP moving furniture, I'm trying to eat, here." Are you reviewing the food? We needed to chow something quickly so my two accomplices had salads and I had fish 'n' chips. Big mistake. While they had actual plates, I had some sort of cardboard wrapped in foil to resemble a boat. The fries were soggy, the fish was fishy, the boat sank. Come on. Even given that this is a college town, there's no way this is anything more than three stars. As just a bar? Sure, four or five; they are a restaurant, though, and don't get much of anything right in that regard. (Nostalgia seemed to be a recurring theme in previous reviews. I stopped here for lunch during a bike ride with 4 friends and wow, I'm glad I did! Amazing service, great food, and cheap beer! The inside decor is pretty cool and hip and they have a nice little bar where we all sat. They also have a bigger bar upstairs that opens around dinner time and stays open til 3am or so. It just happened to be happy hour when we got there, so all draft beers were $1 off which was nice on top of their already cheap beer prices! (see pic) I had some kind of grapefruit ale (sure, I guess it's kinda girly) and it was really nice and refreshing after a long bike ride. I ordered the tots with Cajun seasoning and chimichurri dipping sauce and a basket of sauerkraut balls to share. The tots were crispy and delicious, but I wish they were made fresh instead of the frozen school cafeteria-style that we're all familiar with. At least that's what they looked like. The sauerkraut balls were really good, but I have to say I like the ones at Hofbräuhaus a little more. For my meal, I had the Cuban with a side salad and it was perfection! They loaded up that sammich, piled high with meat on a toasty ciabatta roll. It was awesome! My friend's dad ordered the same thing and he enjoyed it very much as well. It was the first time he ever had a Cuban sammich and he says he'll be ordering it again! It looks like The Feve serves up a mean brunch, so maybe I'll have to stop by next time and try that out! The Feve (rhymes with rev, like an engine) is a great local, cheap bar. It is primarily filled with Oberlin College students. It's split into two floors. The first floor is used for their weekend brunch and daily dinner. The second floor is the bar (dinner can be ordered at the bar upstairs, but there isn't waiter service other than bringing the meal up). Dinner is standard and good. Burgers never fail here. Add some tater tots or stinky tots (garlic tater tots) or some fries and you're good to go. The liquor selection is nothing to write home about, but it is CHEAP. Happy hour gives you $1 drinks. I'll order a bourbon (edit: not during happy hour) and pay $3.50 for it. They also have rotating daily specials, not just Friday happy hour. It doesn't take long to know the bar staff by name (for the most part, there are just two of them). The only complaint that I have is that mixed drinks (rum and coke, or bourbon and coke) can be somewhat weak. If you prefer stronger drinks, I suggest you specify that (ex. "a bourbon with a splash of coke" or something more accurate to your preferences). The Feve gets five stars. It was my college bar, and the only bar where I've really been a regular. read more

Boy do I miss The Feve. One of the best bars you'll find. Josh and Dan are great bartenders and they always have a great selection of beers on tap. Can't beat $4 Long Islands on Thursdays, too. The food isn't my favorite, but the regular menu is more than enough to satisfy most cravings. Their brunch menu also changes every week and there's almost always something there for everyone. Our past few experiences haven't been the greatest. Our last one turned out so poorly that I left without food and had to get something else. It'll be a while before I'm ready to give them another go, but their food is delicious. As far as dining in Oberlin it's one of the best. They are normally pretty efficient and things taste good. The biggest problem we seem to encounter is take out. Almost every time something is missing or wrong. The last time the order was acknowledged, but never made. One of my favourite places (of all time and anywhere) for burgers. I crave Feve burgers regularly. Even when thousands of miles away. Tots on the side is a classic. And they've been doing it way before Napoleon was carrying them around in his fannypack. In fact, he probably got them from the Feve. So yeah, the burgers are amazing. Truly. To say nothing of THE BRUNCH. Feve Brunch is not just a scheduled event or occurrence. It is a gorram Oberlin establishment. One does not simply walk into Oberlin without Feve Brunch. Had an impromptu drink meeting with a potential business partner and friend and he suggested we go for a drink in Oberlin! I had never even heard of Oberlin before!! Needless to say we ended up at The Feve! They had a great Sunday deal for $7 for 7 beer flights!! The bartender was very helpful in explaining how the beer flights worked and he even let me take an older menu home with me ( I collect menus like people collect postcards, it's like a reminder of where I've been). There was a nice selection from the draft menu to choose from!! I didn't eat there but I had a look at their menu and it looked pretty good and fairly priced!! I waffled over doling out a four or five star review on this one...as an Oberlin College graduate, this place has a lot of great memories. But after visiting with my current boyfriend recently, he thought it was 'just okay' so I took that into account. Let's just say it's amazing in Oberlin, but probably wouldn't stack up great against 'amazing' restaurants I've been to elsewhere. There are bars on both levels of the restaurant, the 'drinking' bar being upstairs and more casual 'eating' bar downstairs. That said, it's a cozy atmosphere for a relatively spacious place. It can get very busy and LOUD in here, especially for brunch on the weekends and during events. Bathrooms are located in the basement and second floor, if you're looking. During my most recent visit I had a 'Feve' burger and stinky tots-- I would say this is primarily a 'burger' restaurant although they have many sandwich and entree options. The tater tots are always a must have, and there are lots of different seasonings you can get so there's something for everyone. I like to get fresh fried garlic on mine, although this last time they put a little bit too much grease in with my tots for my liking. The burger was good and reminded that the Feve always has HUGE portion sizes, so be aware. Another must have is a sampling of some of the dipping sauces for tots etc., I usually get three and prefer their mayo based sauces. Overall it was a delicious meal. On a side note, I noticed they've expanded their menu quite a bit to include some odd choices, including an NY-style hotdog. Holy cow, am I in Ohio? This place is crazy hip! After hearing so much about this place, we ventured out to Oberlin to check it out. They change their brunch menus every weekend, so we just HAD to try. He ordered an omelette- it was well cooked and just overall good. I, however, ordered the heftiest dish- pork belly with a syrup glaze on top of cheesy grits. HOLY COW, THAT WAS THE BEST BREAKFAST EVER! The pork belly was tender and marinated just right, the grits were GREAT (and I don't even like grits), and the poached egg in the middle...once I popped that egg and let the yolk run all over the pork belly and grits... I couldn't stop smiling. Man, that was one great great dish. Overall, the Feve is definitely cool. It reminded me of a restaurant you would see in a hip part of the city- like Brooklyn or something of that sort. Very hipster, but cool. Cool posters on the walls, cool people having intellectual conversations... just overall cool. And the food...wowza, it's definitely a spot to stop in for brunch. Oh how I wish it was closer to CLE! I would not have gotten through college without the Feve. The food there is amazing. The burgers are literally the best in the world. I have yet to find one as food. Avocado Bacon Burger? Bacon Swiss Portobello Burger? You want burgers better than these? Impossible. It's not just the burgers, either. The Avocado Melt is delicious, as are all the salads, even just the side, which comes with their delicious house dressing. The tater tots are also great. Brunch is also a weekly ritual I looked forward to every week. It made me get up at 8am on a Saturday so I could be first in line. The menu changes every week, but the most memorable meals for me were the smoked salmon pancakes with a chive cream cheese spread, a duck scramble, and chocolate raspberry pancakes. There are always two options for pancakes; one sweet, one savory. You can also just order the regular ones every week. The pancakes here are delicious, so I would usually just get the plain unless something special caught my eye. I would give just about anything to have some Feve pancakes right now. Yes, Oberlin is a small college town, so the Feve must cater to the needs of 2,500 kids who think they know something about the world. Despite this, the Feve does well in presenting itself as a mature, serious restaurant with great food and an outstanding happy hour. People should choose to go to Oberlin simply because they would then be able to eat at the Feve all the time. read more

I love this place. It has a great relaxed atmosphere, and the service is friendly. I LOVE tater tots..so much that it's kind of ridiculous. The Feve's tater tots are the best I've had. They have various kinds but I like mine spicy. Their sandwiches are delicious---my favorites are The Number Nine, Avocado Melt, and the Shistawouk. Their salad dressings are unique and very good as well. It can get pretty busy, and the restaurant itself is pretty small. The prices are really affordable...definitely worth going to!! read more
