The best fish in the Bay Area!!! So fresh, crispy and juicy!!! I eat here every week, thought I should share my opinion. Enjoy luv!

Went here for a quick bite and wasn't amazed. I ordered the #2 fish & chips combo, 2 catfish and 5 prawns. I paid almost $15 and the combo doesn't even include a drink. I did sub the fries for onion rings but still a little overpriced in my opinion. The batter is really crunchy and a little messy because of crumbling but pretty good. The catfish was really tender but the prawns weren't as big as you would expect. The shrimp was cut so they're flattened out to appear larger than they actually are. The onion rings were alright. Too much batter for a thinly sliced onion. They also skimp you on the dipping sauce, providing me with only one 1oz container of tartar for my order and charging 25cents for any additional sauces. Because the cornmeal batter is really dry, I would appreciate at least one more container of dipping sauce to balance that but I found myself trying to evenly distribute the sauce for the whole meal and it definitely wasn't enough. Not horrible but I'm sure there's other places who charge less and give you way more. Won't try again. read more

I decided to try out this place since it's close to my job and I had a taste for some good fried chicken or fish. I decided on chicken tenders and fries. 3 piece and Hand full of fries came to about $11.50. I will never I REPEAT NEVER order again. The skin slid right off of the straps. The meat wasn't done and the fries were hard and some weren't even done. I normally don't yelp businesses I just don't patronize anymore if I'm dissatisfied but this took the cake. I was craving some fish and chips and ventured to Fat Fish during lunch last week. My wife and I ordered the Snapper with potato salad. We were not happy with the quality of the fish. It was dried out and it did not even taste like Snapper. The service was very good as the lady at the front register is super nice and gracious. The fish was dried out, and the batter cornmeal had a good flavor, but the crusty layer was all you can taste. It seems that they use very low quality ingredients and it is not a good value for the price because we spent over $30 for a very poor lunch. read more

Excellent fried catfish, oysters and fries. The outer breading was crispy and not oily. It was screaming hot so be careful if you try to eat it right away. I got spicy seasoning on everything and it was great. read more

Idk how this came to be but I love The Fat Fish. The breading is nice and flavourful and not overbearing. The fries are just okay though. Just like fast food fries. Not like "chips" Apparently they can do no salt which is cool. Also there's different fish options which is nice if you have preferences. Usually easy to find parking. Always good service read more

Ordered fish/prawns . Said 15 minute wait - actually 55 minutes !!! Literally !! Deep fried -- old oil -- tons of corn meal - VERY salty !!! Couldn't taste fish . Worst ever !!!!! Will never go back !!! Over priced !!! Used to be good many years ago ! I never wrote bad review before on Yelp . 1st one and I'm saying it was BAD!!!! Not fresh by any means . First time being here we my husband and I was told that we must come here and that the fish is soooo good and flavorful. I ordered fish and prawns my thoughts: lack fullness of flavor, but it's good for those we can't have a lot of salt. The shrimp was not what I thought. My review on the meal for me was okay. My husband order fish and fried chicken. No flavor at all on the fried chicken however, beautifully fried and not greasy. Don't have much to say about this place except they give you good amount of fish it's just too bad the flavor isnt really much to be excited about ive tried quite a lot of fish places in the bay and this one really doesn't stand out to me. They have great seafood here. I ordered the fish and chips it's was very flavorful and moist. Fluffy/flaky it was delicious. Everytime I come here never disappointed. I wasn't impressed with the Fat Fish and won't be going back. The two times I went, I ordered Catfish but got Talapia instead. I guess they think people are stupid and don't know the difference, but I do. I made mention of it the second time I went, and the Asian woman still served me Talapia... again. I generally avoid deep fried food, difficult as that may be at times, but finally yielded to temptation on a Saturday afternoon based on a recommendation from a friend who grew up in Pascagoula Mississippi who said this place was the best he'd had outside of his home town. Although I have been to Pascagoula it was some years ago and my memory isn't what it used to be, so I'll take him at his word. The menu is mix and match so you can pretty much call out any combo you want. I went with 3 and 5 - three pieces of fish (your choice of 4 varieties) and five prawns or oysters, plus a side and bread. I added onion rings and that was definitely too much food - had to save some for the next meal. The corn meal batter is crispy and not at all greasy, very light in fact, and the catfish was moist and delicious. They cut the fillets on the thin side. Your choice of tarter sauce or cocktail sauce. They were out of the coleslaw so I opted for macaroni salad, it was a bit soupy - too much mayo/dressing for my taste. Order was up quick - interior not much to look at but it is bright and clean so acceptable for dining in if you choose, although most that came in while I was there were getting take out. read more

Let me start off by saying this place is not as good as you would expect. The burgers are amazing!!! The problem is witht the fried products. The fish is nasty. Doesn't taste like good fish. I ordered a burger and a few wings today and the burger was perfect!! Best burger I ever had! The wings on the other hand were salty, and I could tell they had been deep fried in fish grease. Disgusting. I wanted chicken not fish. Too much salt on the chicken. Yet, not enough salt on fries. The service was fast. I did a phone order. She said the wait was 15min. I got there in time and it was ready. I paid extra for a side of mayo. The atmosphere is mediocre. Small hole in the wall type. They are under staffed. Seemed like she could use help. But she was very very nice and respectful. I'd go back but only for the burgers. The fish is really mushy. I had it about a week ago. Good luck with this place. It's kid of a hit or miss. read more

The fish here is soooo good.... reasonably priced and they also offer chicken wings, burgers, smoothies and the BEST lemonade ever!... my go to it the 3/3/3 option with catfish, prawns and oysters...all seasoned perfectly and you can even request it to be fried spicy which makes it all even better... i also opted to have garlic fries with my combo and they were great.... fried perfectly and lots of garlic and even had some of the spicy seasoning on them... service was friendly and the food was fried fresh... nothing waiting under heat lamps pre fried and sitting around... every time I'm in the area this will be my go to place ... it really is worth a try... i finished my food so fast i forgot to take a picture lol read more

I've driven by a hundred times and wondered, could this place be good? And it was great! There are about hundred permutations for ordering fried fish (in 4 different types: catfish, pollock, etc.), fried shrimp, fried oysters, and fried chicken in various quantities. I went for 3-3-3: 3 fish, 3 oysters, 3 shrimp, piled on fries for $16.29 + tax. It was way too much food. The crispy cornmeal crust was excellent. The tartar sauce could be better -- it was too mayonnaisey. Bring relish. The location is also clean and bright enough to eat in without feeling like some kind of shameful loser. In long story short I ordered a 8 piece catfish they gave basa fish I am a Pescatarian so I kind of know my fish, seafood in general I told the owner she said "this the type of catfish we have" lol then asked me if I wanted to exchange it for more "catfish" I said no she charged me almost half the price it I'm very sure they do this all the time I said this not catfish 3 times she never denied it just asked if I wanted more do go save your money read more

I have been here twice so far and haven't been disappointed. Fried fish is pretty incredible and I feel like the quality here is pretty good. It definitely competes well with the fried fish from SF. As for value, I recall the portions being pretty big. I got the 4- piece Alaska Pollock with French fries the first time for $9.29 and a combination of 5-piece Alaska Pollock and 7-piece fried oysters for $19.99 the second time. I think the first time the fish was a little overcooked but pretty big pieces and the second time the oysters were fairly small, however, overall the taste was pretty good! I don't think I would be a regular here but if I ever want fried fish I will be back at some point! read more

I had the chicken and fries special today. The food was good as well as timely. I found the menu to be misleading though. The menu said this special consists of 3 wings and fries. In fact, what I got was 3 pieces of wing. In other words, 1 1/2 wings. When ordering from the butcher, if you ask for 3 wings, he/she doesn't cut 2 wings in half, then give you 3 of the 4 pieces. The last time this happened was at the Berkeley Marina years ago. I mentioned it to the owner. He agreed and immediately made it right. I liked the food and service at Fat Fish. Good quality fish for a very reasonable price. There was a 20 min wait the night we went for dinner. We had Vegas roll, Sunset roll, volcano roll, and luscious lover. The Vegas roll was the best tempura roll with cream cheese. This place is very popular and the food is good. We sat in the booth in the corner which was facing a wall. I loooove this place! I started off getting the catfish with prawns but after I tried the tilapia, I haven't even thought about trying any other fish. Simply put, they give more batter than fish! Too much cornmeal batter used on every single piece. The flavoring is definitely in there too.
