    Trivia night on Thursdays!
    Mindy L.

Great community of folks here & especially love coming for trivia nights hosted my Ms. Jenna!! It's a blend of old time regulars, college kids, artists and everyone in between is welcomed. There's a variety of events hosted making it a real staple and cultural hub. The bar serves up beer, cider, wines and some non alcoholic options like tea and soda, while the kitchen cooks up classics like fish & chips, Mac & cheese, and a rotating menus of deliciousness. The compassionate crew tops it off and deserve recognition for all their hard work!

Great local Berkeley bar serving beer and wine only. There's also spoken word on Wednesday nights. I ordered the fish and chips and fried chicken wings. I also enjoyed a glass of Cabernet and a singha beer draft. Yum.

Had an amazing time with my kids celebrating here on St Patty's Day! Great food and drink menu, authentic. Super organized staff! Great ambiance. Easy street parking.

I have been to The Starry Plough Pub during several Saint Patrick's Day Celebrations. This is an Irish bar with reasonable prices (for this day and age). I was able to find a dry cider--yum! What a celebration this 2023 Saint Paytrick Day was!!! It was standing room only. They had Irish bands, Irish dancers, and it was an open mike for singing Irish songs. They offer foods like Corned Beef and Cabbage, Fish and Chips, and Bacon Cheseburger, but we had dinner before going there. They looked good, though. The Starry Plough is a hangout for Irish and Irish wanna bes. They have live music, Irish music, and even Irish dancing.

This place is awesome. They have fantastic food and great selection of drinks. Everyone is supper nice and friendly. Great music and a perfect way to spend a night.

I've been coming here a bit more regularly, lately - more visits in the last year compared to the previous decade, in fact. Now I wonder what I was waiting for. According to the East Bay Express, Schmidt's Pub is "basically your living room, but better" - that does sum it up, except that very few of us have living rooms anything like this, with a cozy fireplace surrounded by comfy armchairs and rustic tables beside sunny windows. Not many of us have living rooms with Old Speckled Hen on tap, or populated with an entertaining parade of quirky folk and friendly dogs. If the people and dogs are not entertaining enough then pick up a copy of Calvin and Hobbes or A History of Clay Pipes (okay, I made that one up) and have a little retreat with a pint. 4/5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact, based on these factors: * Beer on tap (transported in reusable kegs) has a much lower footprint compared to bottles or cans. * Allows you to bring your own food, which is good for folk like vegans who are often more comfortable with BYO. * The snacks available at the counter could be a bit more Berkeley (or Albany)! They were mostly from big corps - Lays chips (PepsiCo) and chocolate bars from Mars. Would be nice to see a more imaginative/ethical selection. * A great community space with an inclusive atmosphere. Schmidt's is home to many groups (e.g., knitting) and provides a second family for many, some who send postcards from their trips! * Finally, we shouldn't underestimate the importance of having a place to slow down, reflect and connect with each other a little. In that respect, Schmidt's Pub is worth its weight in gold.

The covered outdoor area is cozy and elegant, while the indoor dining room -- with its stunning bar and polished atmosphere -- feels like classic California luxury done right. Service was outstanding: warm, attentive, and perfectly paced. Portions were impressively generous for a tasting menu, which made the whole experience feel both elevated and genuinely satisfying. We started with the cinnamon roll that is famous for a reason -- soft, warm, and finished with a passion‑fruit glaze that made it impossible not to devour. The buckwheat crêpe was another standout, layered with lemon‑ and orange‑zested ricotta that gave every bite a bright, citrusy lift. The caviar and smoked sturgeon course was beautifully done, but the real surprise was the perfectly circular potato chips -- crisp, delicate, and almost architectural. Second course brought a thick‑cut brioche (French toast), served with the most incredible rose maple syrup and almond butter. The Alaskan halibut was equally impressive: delicate, flavorful, and executed with the kind of precision you expect from a Michelin kitchen. Dessert was a finale worth lingering over. The apple tart arrived in impossibly thin, layered slices -- so beautiful you almost didn't want to cut into it. And the chocolate soufflé? Easily enough for two, deeply rich, and absolutely meant to be drenched in the Grand Marnier crème they serve alongside it. Don't skip that part. A flawless brunch -- generous, thoughtful, beautifully executed. Five stars without hesitation.

Sadly didn't do the wine (dry January) but I think it would've gone really well with our meal because some of the food was a little heavy. Some highlights were: The bread service!! - I usually try to skip the bread to save room but the rolls were so warm and buttery, delicious! Beef tartar - the hash browns with them were some of the best I've had Scallops Duck breast - perfectly cooked Easy parking in lot right outside, and tucked away in Woodside, this place has all the charm! Would come back again to try a different menu with a nice bottle of wine.
