McNally's It is our local watering hole where everyone knows our name. Well, okay, everyone knows our greyhounds' names. A dog friendly place, McNally's is the perfect place to bring your furry best friends (and human ones). It is a mix of regular barflies and the occasional newbies. One time, an anti-dog lady came in with her date, ordered table martini service, took over our fireplace table, and no one was impressed. We started to come here more once they built the parklet during the pandemic. They also promoted their cocktails at this time. We would sit outside with dogs and friends and came to love the casual lowkey location. There is a large room in the back that we made the mistake of sitting in once. Great if you have a group, but cold and dorm community room feel vs the comfortable bar feel of the front area. There is also a backyard nook along the side of the building for smokers or those that want to watch dvds. They have darts, which i was surprised to see someone actually play once, a small pool table with a special name that escapes me, and a jukebox that you can pay for songs. We usually patronize in the earlier hours and Alfred is our bartender. He knows peoples' orders before they order it and lets us tend the fireplace on cold days. He has treats and water for the dogs. You can pay cash or credit card here which adds to the appeal over two other bars in the area that are cash only. There is one female and one male restroom on the back wall. The female one is always clean but the swinging door sticks. Don't make the mistake of waiting as you probably just have to push it in harder. We prefer the fireplace table if it's a cold day out (otherwise the corner booth in the parklet) as it's easy to park the dogs there, eat the burrito you brought in, absorb the fire rays, watch the games, and conversate with your friends in a circle. We usually have more friends than fit the table but we spread out around the nucleus. The corner table is also great if they have the overhead lamp turned off. Otherwise it's harsh in your eyeballs. There are several televisions so you can get a good view of whatever sports is on wherever you are sitting. Lots of stools and just a few regular chairs. They do have special events from time to time and you have to look out for flyers on their door or the occasional social media post. I am counting down the days to saint Patrick's day, which they do also on their countdown sign over the bar. Neighborhood parking is free or street parking is free after 6pm, all day Sunday and holidays. You can also park at the library around the corner, it's considered street parking. There are several eateries to take out food and bring in to McNally's. There's a trash can near the door or the main bins are on the side of the building. If you forgot a utensil, ask at the bar, they may have it for you. Food wise they only offer potato chips for purchase. read more

Different sections and areas create spaces where small groups can party separately But why would you wanna do that? This is Oaktown and people is what it's about. Stopped by for after dinner drinks, and I've never been so happy to feel the warmth of the warm fireplace. Plenty of seating options and three massive TV's with different games on display. We kept the drinks simple by ordering a Tito's and tonic, Midori sour, and a Black Russian. The noise level was just right and the music playing was a nice mixture. No complaints from me. read more

I had the displeasure of visiting this bar for the first time for the finale of Vanderpump Rules and got to witness one of the co-owners, Tobias Hampton, serve 3 parties in front of my friend, the only Black person in the bar. I stood behind her watching as she was ignored for 15 minutes, and when she finally said "hey, can I order?" Tobias yelled at her that he's "trying to work here." It was so egregious one of the other lovely patrons placed an order for her and was immediately served. I thought to myself: this is wrong, the owner of this bar would want to know this happened. The other co-owner, Max Young, told me that what ACTUALLY happened was that Tobias stepped away from the bar with the full intention of serving my friend to get more glasses, and when he came back, she was gone. He hopes that I don't hold a grudge since it obviously was a misunderstanding that wasn't about race. Tobias was behind the bar the entire time and served three people with the glasses he was "out of" in front of her. read more

Imagine two Irish Americans getting a late start on Saint Patrick's Day, 2021. One Irish pub in Montclair was just too crowded for these Covid times. So, we went to another Irish hang-out but it wasn't happening. We decided to try Bill McNally's. When we drove by, we saw an outside structure that was all lit up and filled with people.  There was a long line, and we joined it--for well over an hour. I had to put my hands under my coat to keep them warm. The server invited us to sit with another couple at a small table. When it was time to 7order, the server told the other couple that there was only one corn beef and cabbage dinner left--and they took it. When the waiter came back he told us that they had found one more corned beef and cabbage dinner. So, we got that one. The server was stretched quite thin--they needed more help. Celebratory sounds were coming from the booths--the more they drank--the louder it got. No one was let inside of the pub, but we were grateful to be out of line and sitting down. At our table, the boys talked, and us girls were pretty quiet. The server was so busy that my partner only had one beer--pretty amazing for a St. Partick's Day night out. There were heat lamps, but we weren't in their range. My partner and I shared a slightly warm corn beef dinner with one set of plastic plasticware. We ate it all, and decided to leave.  I don't think the restaurant was ready for ALL the people that showed up. Many left before they got to the front of the line. It wasn't the management's fault that we arrived too late to get a warm booth--so we could have celebrated uproariously!!! If we come next year, hopefully we can go inside, and celebrate with Irish whiskey. read more

I logged into Yelp specifically to do a review of this bar, after having attended the last four weeks worth of Vanderpump Rules watch parties on Wednesday nights. First I want to thank the bar staff for letting us all come out and enjoy the show, and for putting up with our rowdiness. Was such a good time! This was my first time venturing out to McNallys and I have to say I wish I had discovered it sooner. The bar itself is amazing, plenty of space to spread out between the two rooms and the back patio. Friendly regulars, and the bartenders were wonderful at juggling the crowds around show time, and genuinely seemed to be getting in the spirit along with us bar patrons. The Pumptinis were a great added touch! Thanks again for hosting, hope you continue with the watch parties next season! In the meantime I'll still be stopping by to visit. Made plenty of new friends during these past few weeks and can't wait to keep the party going! read more

So apparently, they didn't like my post and claimed that it was for a different spot. So, I'll be succinct and detailed. First time here was pretty fun. They had just had an event and had kegs on ice at the end of the bar. The bartender was pretty cool. They had just opened and things seemed pretty good. The place argues its one of the oldest bars in Oakland. So seems like a good Irish pub can't go wrong. So I had a decent time and decided to head back my next trip there. The last two times were not great. The bar was empty, definitely an older local crowd. And when I say older I mean about 60+ years old crowd. Nothing wrong with that, but it's not a social crowd. Maybe 6-10 people in a large space. The place needs updating or just a good cleaning. One or the other. The biggest reason for the 1 star. The price of drinks were way over the top. I like whiskey but they overcharge everything for a dive bar vibe. 16-20 bucks a drink. And they sure didn't spend it on decor or ambiance. A drink that costs 9 bucks up the street is 16-20 here. And for no reason. You're drinking alone basically. I'll try again, but I preferred the other bars up the street tbh. I have no photos cause there wasn't much to see. Could be a nice place, but if the bartender is right about new leadership, that's the reason for the pricing changes. Can't recommend for now. But, hope its a better experience in the future. read more

I haven't been to McNally's before Covid but when I was back in town I saw that they implemented the outdoor seating area so it was the perfect time to stop by. Solid pub with the local games on TV, pool table, jukebox, and booths indoors if you don't want a spot at the bar. I sat in the area in the front of the space drinking my 21st amendment brew but when exploring the back they have a small area with a table for smoking. The customers are friendly and the inside is inviting with a fireplace, darts, music, multiple tvs... The owner is also behind the bar, pouring drinks, how often do you see owners anymore? It's probably the most fun that I've had at a bar in a long time. McNally's is an Irish pub located in Oakland's Rockridge district off of College Ave. It has been going strong since 1933 (can you believe it?) and serves as a popular staple in the Rockridge community. I came here about a month ago with some friends and we had an absolute blast! Let me start off by saying that if you have the opportunity to get served drinks by Tony, you are in for a killer night! This man was so amazing! He's the cutest old Irish man that I've ever encountered in entire my life! Suuuuper funny and heavy handed with the alcohol! I don't think a bartender has ever made us laugh so hard before. My group and I truly enjoyed his service and company that night. The vibe here is so unreal... so relaxed and super chill. It attracts such a diverse crowd which I just absolutely love. This is definitely a bar that I would feel comfortable coming back to alone if I wanted to. This is the official Seahawks bar of Oakland and all of the Seahawks memorabilia makes that very apparent. So for all of you die hard Raider fans out there, try not to get all butt hurt when you walk in. They offer a wide variety of bottled and tap beers as well as some very tasty cocktails! If you're not big on beer, I would recommend the Big Ginger! It's a simple mix of 2 gingers, Irish Whiskey and Ginger Ale and it is sure to get you feeling really nice! Tony really hooked it up for me and I super appreciated it! They also offer many popular Irish Whiskey choices as well as alcohol for your common well drinks and mixes. Not sure if they have happy hour here but their drinks in general are dirt cheap! That's a gold mine in the Rockridge area since many bars here can get pretty expensive with the drinks. The inside is spacious and offers lots of standing room, bar seating, and a few tables near the wall. They have a few TV's and a nice pool table in the main room and a second room that has an additional table to play games or for live band performances. My friends and I were a little on the tipsy side and we all started playing beer flip on the back table in the second room. It was one of those nights where I felt like I was back in high school again! I had so much fun! Love the music selection that they play here! It's such an eclectic mix of all types of different genres and ages. There's something good for everyone to listen to! I probably knew about 90% of the songs that they were playing. Not sure if there was a DJ but shout out to however was rotating the mix because they threw some wonderful old school classics in there! They don't serve food here but there are several restaurants and lounges within walking distance where you can stop off to get something to eat. The restrooms are suuuper tiny! I almost hit someone on my way out! If you're claustrophobic, I'll just give you a far warning; the restroom is only a little bigger than a portable. It's your typical bar restroom with tons of graffiti transcribed all over the walls and doors, but I didn't see any puke anywhere, so I was quite happy about that! You are limited to street parking as this is located off of busy College Ave, but it is also bartable! It's only a couple of blocks from the Rockridge bart station. If you are looking to have an awesome time with friends, you MUST come here! It will totally be worth it! Don't forget to ask for Tony ;) read more

Unfortunately, on more than one of those visits, I have experienced unwanted attention and harassment by one of the workers... To the point where he put his hands on me, he made me feel incredibly unsafe and uncomfortable. This is the place we go when we want good draft beer before a nice dinner along College Ave. We love the atmosphere with the decades old beer memorabilia. We generally go a bit early so it is pretty chill. It is a quintessential dive bar...no food, only drinks. If you are curious, take a look out at the back room and outside...you may be surprised that the structure is even standing. I think it's held up with multiple layers of thick green paint. Great bar, excellent service, cozy parklet

My fabulous friend Jamie just moved home from London and we joined her at McNally's to celebrate her return. (Yes, we celebrated her return to the United States from England at an Irish Pub. What.) We parked less than half a block away in a metered lot that is free after 8 pm. There is also another parking lot just past the bar (on the right if you are driving away from the freeway). The bar wasn't very busy at 9 pm and we found our friends in the back room. Although a bit chilly because of a open doorway leading outside, it was the perfect spot for our group of friends to spend an evening chatting and laughing and enjoying adult beverages. There is a large table in the back and we were able to gather around and have a good time. Jamie gets five stars for moving back home and McNally's gets a solid four for being a nice spot to meet up with friends. read more

Geebus this place is green. Like...SUPER GREEN. And I'm not just saying that because it's an Irish bar either. Even though we didn't walk in until about 11:00pm, the green paint still made them stand out...and it was a dark and rainy night! Beyond the color of the building though, I can't say I have a strong opinion of McNally's one way or another. While the place is pretty chill and has that friendly, neighborhood vibe, we only stayed long enough to do two quick rounds before taking off. It was great how we were able to get a table so easily, and the crowd was both light and diverse (in every which way at that). However, I wonder if it's always like this or if the rain had something to do with it. The roaring fire they had going in the fireplace didn't hurt though! I didn't get a chance to buy a round for my friends (next one is on me guys!), but the prices seemed friendly enough according to a couple of them. At the very least, the bartenders gave our drinks a friendly pour of alcohol. Considering those two things are just about the most important things for a neighborhood bar, there's a good chance we'll be back for our next boys' night out in Oakland. Plus...I really want to try their bumper pool table! Man, why don't more bars have this? read more

McNally's has a great neighborhood vibe and they are dog-friendly. Not just "okay, you can bring the pup" but a bowl of water is always offered for the pooch and sometimes you might see some Milk Bones come out from behind the counter! The fireplace keeps it nice and toasty on cooler days, the bathrooms are in pretty good shape for a little neighborhood bar. They have 3 televisions - yesterday I saw more of the Oscars than I have seen in 20 years. Often, those televisions are the focal point of the room when there are sporting events going - if that's not your scene, avoid going during games if you want to keep your hearing. This is a pretty cool pub within walking distance from Rockridge BART. The crowd is mellow and you can do your own thing. There's also a lot of fun places to explore on the way. I'd definitely go back here. The only complaint I have is that it's pretty small so if you're looking to gather a large group, it might be a little tough to get stools. This is my kind of bar. Small, dark, and laid back. They have some good beers on tap, and a wonderful drink (that I can't remember now what it was called, but it's their specialty so maybe a bartender will point you the right way). They have a bumper pool table, which I had no idea up until then what the heck that was. I found out, and it's really cool. It makes people like me (who suck at real pool) not feel so loserish when my ball is going everywhere. A great hang out, and I wish I lived a bit closer. read more

Everyone is friendly and the owner Tobias could not be cooler. It's honestly like Cheers here. Everyone knows your name and even if you're not from around here you're treated like a regular. The front has a long bar bumper pool table and bar scene with loud music. In the back there are enjoying different music. The secret back room has a "somebody's garage" feel to it.
