The only Irish pub in Oakland! Loved the hospitality here, and got to talk to the owner and learned a little about the place. This place feels intimate and has some outdoor seating as well. I'd definitely come back to try some more drinks! I must admit I am not familiar with their game.

Me and my mom were on our way to have dinner at Everett & Jones across the street, we noticed the Guinness Block Party at Slainte in Jack London Square. After we ate we joined in. The live music was outstanding, it was still lit by the time we walked over!

Irish Soda Bread, butter, and cheese - delicious

Visited Slainte before seeing a movie at the Regal down the street and it was great to be back! The minute you enter it has a cozy, welcoming vibe, and I love the atmospheric lighting and well-worn tables. I was seated and given a menu and it had some of my favorites from past visits, like seasonal winter cocktails and classics like Irish Coffee, fish and chips, and more! We ordered Irish Soda bread and cheddar cheese along with two hot buttered rums. All delicious. I got the Fish and chips, and the portion was huge, enough for a second meal the next day. Fish was perfectly cooked and the chips were great. Service was swift and friendly, and we got our food quickly and easefully made it to our movie! It's a great place to go in general, or like us before seeing a film down the street. Highly recommend! They have cozy indoor seating, some outdoor when it is hotter outside, and a quick walk from bus or bart to there and all of Jack London Square.

Proper Irish pub in Oakland. Fantastic, properly made Irish Coffees, which aren't easy to find. Due to Slainte, I've been introduced to Irish gin. Quite tasty! On top of that, they've this excellent martini glassware, Nick and Nora, based on the Thin Man movies. Best glass I've ever had a martini in. I don't like the traditional martini glasses at all. I find them very impractical and I always spill. This glass is a great shape and the glass itself is very light weight. If you'd like to feel like you've all the sudden been transported to Ireland, this is your place :)

I may or may not have entered this establishment a little tipsy. With that said, I'm not sure what these ducks mean. They could just be an ornament next to your drink or perhaps a collector's item. Both drinks came with the ducks. As for the drinks, I loved the BloomsDay cocktail! I didn't find it too sweet, which is usually my concern when ordering cocktails. My sister, on the other hand, didn't want to take a chance on it, so she opted for whiskey--not with a pickle back, but with an olive back chaser. Why an olive instead of a pickle? It's because they don't carry pickles. Based on what my sister said, the olive back was much better than the pickle back. If you haven't tried it, she highly recommend it.

I woke up wanting an English Breakfast (not sure why, never had one). Yelped it. Irish came up at this spot. Best breakfast ever, and I eat out, a lot. Food was delicious. Service was perfect. Cool Sunday breakfast, instead of my typical weekend Mimosa went with a chocolaty stout. I will be back for other offerings. I feel like this place has been here forever and for some reason I've never dropped in.

We came for the Irish beer selection and their signature Guinness ginger cake!!! I had the Magners cider on draft and it was really good not too sweet. I also enjoyed the seafood chowder and I was pleasantly surprised it was hearty and good. Next time I'll try the bangers and mash my siblings ordered because they enjoyed it and it looks good too!!! As for their signature Slainte Guinness ginger cake it's so decadent and the perfect way to end the meal or simply accompany your drink. Definitely an Irish pub worth visiting when in Oakland!!!

Had a good time with the hubby here the other day for some lunch. I was really craving an Irish Breakfast, so naturally had to go to the best Irish Pub around. My hubby had the Shepherds Pie and we both had some drinks at the bar to go with our meal. The bartender was great. Service was good. Didn't wait too long for our meal. Parking is a little sketchy in the area, so I suggest parking at the Jack London parking garage down the street. Not too far of a walk. We also went to the St. Paddy's Day celebration they had last year and THAT was fun. Line could've been better handled for food and there could've been more seating, but still so much fun. Looking forward to going again this year!

Sláinte (pronounced slawn-che) is such a fun and cozy spot in Oakland to tuck into or to try and beat some of this heat ~ when you enter you can feel the love, and heart/soul of the place from the decor to the awesome staff. Under new ownership, they have a menu full of delicious Irish fare, music and events weekly (check their website for event calendar), and even boozy Irish breakfast on weekends. A few things from the menu we thoroughly enjoyed ~ the fish and chips (with the mushy peas), house baked Irish soda bread, Irish seafood chowder, the mac & cheese, traditional Shepherd's pie, and to top it all off and wash it down, a Guinness & Guinness ginger cake. Everything ordered was thoughtfully mastered, prepared, and executed. I felt as though I was at my husband's home being served by his family ~ comfort in every mouthful. Don't sleep on this menu ~ the fish & chips are hearty and tastefully done without any additional grease, the mac & cheese is something alone I would come back for..the right balance of rich and creamy without going overboard, the Irish seafood chowder and soda bread could be its own meal in itself..unique and traditional, and the Shepherd's pie was a great closer..ample portions for a hungry crew! Would love to come back to experience music and more from the menu ~ maybe even their Iced Irish coffee, yum! Metered parking is available and I did hear there are smashburgers now on the menu!

Sláinte Irish Pub Oakland is the place UK Expats recommend, and for good reason! Last week I was eating fish & chips at the Rock & Place, the oldest such restaurant in London. Sláinte, in my backyard, was recommended for a try upon my return. Today, jet lag gone, we headed over. The beautiful dècor, the delightful fireplace, and the enthusiastic and welcoming staff set our scene. It felt like coming home to a place one's never been. The good doesn't disappoint. The cod & chips with beef tallow mushy peas satisfies. The Guinness Autumn Stew tastes like Mom's. And the Guinness Ginger Cake is delightful, what with it's deep taste and sticky-crunchy texture. Comparing London's offerings with Sláinte isn't fair; the former serves hundreds daily since 1871, the latter far fewer, since 2017. Still, Sláinte satisfies and doesn't require an 11-hour flight. We'll return, certainly for the food, perhaps for the frequent live events.

The service was amazing. The Mac and cheese was very filling. We added a little Tabasco to the mix for personal taste. The beer was perfect not flat or too hoppy. Music was perfect level to talk without yelling. Perfect for a date night.

A dog friendly place, McNally's is the perfect place to bring your furry best friends (and human ones). It is a mix of regular barflies and the occasional newbies. One time, an anti-dog lady came in with her date, ordered table martini service, took over our fireplace table, and no one was impressed. We started to come here more once they built the parklet during the pandemic. They also promoted their cocktails at this time. We would sit outside with dogs and friends and came to love the casual lowkey location. There is a large room in the back that we made the mistake of sitting in once. Great if you have a group, but cold and dorm community room feel vs the comfortable bar feel of the front area. There is also a backyard nook along the side of the building for smokers or those that want to watch dvds. They have darts, which i was surprised to see someone actually play once, a small pool table with a special name that escapes me, and a jukebox that you can pay for songs. We usually patronize in the earlier hours and Alfred is our bartender. He knows peoples' orders before they order it and lets us tend the fireplace on cold days. He has treats and water for the dogs. You can pay cash or credit card here which adds to the appeal over two other bars in the area that are cash only. There is one female and one male restroom on the back wall. The female one is always clean but the swinging door sticks. Don't make the mistake of waiting as you probably just have to push it in harder. We prefer the fireplace table if it's a cold day out (otherwise the corner booth in the parklet) as it's easy to park the dogs there, eat the burrito you brought in, absorb the fire rays, watch the games, and conversate with your friends in a circle. We usually have more friends than fit the table but we spread out around the nucleus. The corner table is also great if they have the overhead lamp turned off. Otherwise it's harsh in your eyeballs. There are several televisions so you can get a good view of whatever sports is on wherever you are sitting. Lots of stools and just a few regular chairs. They do have special events from time to time and you have to look out for flyers on their door or the occasional social media post. I am counting down the days to saint Patrick's day, which they do also on their countdown sign over the bar. Neighborhood parking is free or street parking is free after 6pm, all day Sunday and holidays. You can also park at the library around the corner, it's considered street parking. There are several eateries to take out food and bring in to McNally's. There's a trash can near the door or the main bins are on the side of the building. If you forgot a utensil, ask at the bar, they may have it for you. Food wise they only offer potato chips for purchase.

I ordered a tea (it was as it should be basic and unsweetened with a slice of lemon), 1/2 pound of wings. Dry rub with blue cheese. The rub was good. Not salty not over powdered. Cooked well and had 3-4 small sticks of celery and a really good bleat cheese (may have had fresh dill in it). Pretty delicious actually. The 1/2 pound of wings kinda surprised me because it was 2 flats and 2 drums. 4 in total. Thought maybe I'd get at least 6. Deviled eggs. They looked soooo good. I liked how they had a lil of the deviled egg filling on bottom of the deviled eggs so they wouldn't wobble around. The amount of filling was high and was ok in taste. The mayo or something they used in it was on the sweeter side. The other people in my party loved them but too sweet for me. I tried some of my friend's Carnitas Nachos. They were goood. A very generous helping of nachos. I tried my friends spicy non alcoholic drink and it was really good! Bathroom was clean.

For as busy as it was tonight, they did an outstanding job! What made this potentially 5-star review downgraded to a 3-star review was because of my interaction with the KJ here tonight, right after the karaoke league competition. When the karaoke queue was finally open to the public after the competition, I signed up for just one song, and I looked at the KaraFun queue and saw my song at 8th (#8) in the rotation. I looked at the queue again a minute later, and my song was suddenly at #10. I looked again a few seconds later, and my song was suddenly at #14. And then, a few seconds later, it was at #16. I went up to the KJ to ask him what was going on, and he said that he's just making a living, and if people tip him, they get moved up on the queue. Being a KJ myself and being part of a KJ team in the Bay Area, we do accept tips at our shows, but we don't move people up even after getting tipped. We get tipped by merit, by giving our singers their rockstar moment. Tips just come with the show and everyone's hard work. So, at this Legionnaire Saloon tonight, I felt disrespected. Before I found out I was being moved down from the queue, I was planning on tipping the KJ between $10 to $20 just for one song... just because KJs gotta support each other. I would have even waited my turn (at #8 on the queue), because it's just the right thing to do. But after this disrespect, and after the KJ even offered to move me up to #3, I just told him I was leaving, and I walk out. The damage has been done, and I wanted nothing to do with this show. I'll still come back here for drinks, but I will not come back when this KJ is working. 3 Stars. From a potential 5 stars. My two centavos.
