The Fabric Mill in Plainview NY off the South Service Road just past PCRichard entrance on right- Note don't pass it or you end up back on parkway. I'd bought material for a bar stool .Do to cost I'd brought a previous stool to someone recommended to upholster. That had been a mistake. So when the 2nd one had a rip I took it toThe Fabric Mill and had "AW" write up an order to have it done. It was discussed and noted by the girl and * the man worker who came and examined the roll of material I had along with the chair requesting the small sample and remaining unused fabric that I never got back. A month or so later I got a call that it was ready for pickup. When I picked it up it was wrapped in plastic and a roll of fabric was given me. Note: the workmanship was very well done, the color close, but it wasn't original material as it is a matt not gloss cover. I called sometime later just to ? If indeed my original fabric was there. IA girl named Janice followed up as AW is no longer there. Her email basically said-its a mystery as she found the man who had done the work on the chair and there is no clarity as to what happened to my fabric and what fabric was used. I asked her for her bosses information and she gave me a name, email and said that he was informed of the situation. I paid a lot of $ , I waited an adequate time, while the work is good and perhaps I may be the only one to notice the difference, I do wonder how to clean the chair as the material is matt and takes the dirt. It was not what I in detail ordered and there was no customer satisfaction efforts made however much the girl tried to be kind to find out. I would have liked the swatch which is gone and clearly would have shown the difference. Again, as noted, I made efforts, I brought the chair, I paid for it and it comes down to how much do I have to fight and take my time up with what is clearly an after the fact- lost battle. As Janice made note in her email, I am supposed to be comforted by the fact that I now have a chair. read more

Huge selection, provides samples and will sell a yard of fabric instead of having a two or three yard minimum. Very, very reasonably priced. They were quick with the samples and very quick with the fabric ended up purchasing. I visited many fabric stores trying to find the right fabric for my project; grateful for the Fabric Mill. My only drawback is that I live 1:30 away! I will get out there one of these days. read more

To my surprise, The Fabric Mill has a great selection of quilting cottons, which have been hard to come by at other stores as of late. As a result, I have spent hundreds of dollars here over the past few weeks to purchase fabric for my business. With that being said, I was appalled by the unprofessional level of customer service I received during my most recent visits there. It seems that prices are inconsistent and made up by each employee. Today, I was charged $8.80/yard for a fabric that I had previously purchased there for $4.99/yard. When I questioned the change in price, the only solution I was offered was to "return the fabric" (I needed it for a project). As far as I know, all of the quilting cottons have prices ending in ".99," so I firmly believe that this price was a mistake - but the woman at the register refused to work it out. By looking at the receipt (photo posted), it is evident that prices and numbers are made up since I did not purchase any home decor fabric today either. In addition to the inconsistent prices, I have had to waste so much fabric that I paid for due to the extremely haphazard cutting by employees (this happened with 2 different employees on different dates) that I later had to even out. This is unacceptable for a store that specializes in fabric. While I prefer to support a local Long Island business, I will remember not to return here for my fabric needs in the future due to more negative than positive experiences here. read more

My couch cushions were only 6 years old but the foam filler was breaking down and too soft! I brought all 4 seat cushions to The Fabric Mill and they worked on them right away! In 1 hour they had replaced the foam with a higher quality (and firmer) material, wrapped in batting, and carried them to my car for me! It's like I have a new couch! While I was waiting I discovered the pillow aisle and bought new inserts for all my throw cushions. The Fabric Mill exceeded my expectations and everyone should go there for any upholstery project (they also do custom window treatments!) read more

Ok let me preface this review with I don't know ISH about crafting. Not a Dayum thing about sewing, knitting or any other artsy fartsy crafty stuff that I envy others who can do. On a whim when I had a day off, November 29, 2016 to be exact. I decided to get the supplies for when the mood hit me to redo my dining chairs. I cook! That's my forte. But sometimes ya gotta go outside your lane. This lane change was because of monetary reasons. Plain & simple, this chick ain't got da money for a professional reupholstering job. It would've been over $100 per chair. For $53 bucks I bought the cushion, batting (not for baseball? are you sure? Never heard of it) & some crocodile print vinyl. It would've been cheaper if I bought cheaper fabric instead of vinyl. But I'm a spiller. That's why I needed to replace the ones I had. The awesome staff instructed me on what to do & how to do it. Down to using a sharp kitchen knife to cut the cushion instead of a carpet knife. One swipe & it was cut! Fold the fabric in fours & then cut with scissors said the other dude. Easy peasy! Remember turn the seat wood upside down. So today was the day! I know I know it actually took me 5 months to get to it. Don't judge me, I'm a busy chick. In 2.5 hrs everything was done. Not the prettiest, my fault. I'd choose a different color next time. But I'm happy with the outcome. Saturday project finished! I shopped around for months looking for a reputable business to make a custom slip cover for my couch. After reading some poor reviews for this business I was weary about doing business with them but their prices were unbeatable snd I decided to go with them. Susana was the designer that helped me and was extremely helpful when the fabric I ordered was delayed. Frank was the person who made the slipcover and was knowledgeable and did a beautiful job. It did take longer than expected but all and all was worth waiting for. read more

Came to look at some fabrics and don't get me wrong, this place has some wonderful fabrics for sale and even imported stuff on the more expensive end. However, the customer service/treatment was horrendous. Sales associates were rude, sassy, and unprofessional. I would recommend this place if they had better service. read more

I can come in here .. buy a few yards of any kind of fabric... tons of awesome fabric..cotton, silk, ralph lauren etc.. . and sew my super awesome pillows..... for the fabric selection.. 4 stars! quality.. uhmm it's good! but I have seen better ... like from a little dive in Sag Harbor...... which has amazing things mixed in with the rest - what I really like about Fabric Mill is seeing the people doing custom work behind the glass ... sewing custom window treatments, pillows, drapes... quilts all to order... saw one bagged for pick up... looked really nice... stuff you couldn't get in the store amazing to have real talented people sewing and letting people pick the fabric etc.. read more

I have had nothing but great experiences with the Fabric Mill and all of the employees there. Everyone is very helpful. The selection is vast. They have more capabilities than I could ever think of and they offer good advice to save money and make things more beautiful even if it will be less expensive for you. For instance my mother sent me on to reupholster two chairs that also had nail head and they convinced me that the chair would look better without them, and they were right. The store is clean and very well lit. It's nicely air conditioned and not dusty. Fabrics attract dust but they manage to keep the whole store very clean and comfortable. It's better than going to the. Lower east side. There's plenty of parking and a nice bathroom. read more

Thousands of fabrics to choose from! This pace can be overwhelming! Fabric mill has designer fabrics and tons of trims at extremely reasonable prices. They also have a customizing workroom where they can make you window treatments, duvets, pillows, etc. I bought my own fabric as i love to dabble and create my own designs. so I picked up several yards of lusciousness and some great beads to adorn my creations. Before you read this, you need to know that I am not a fashion savvy girl. Basically, when it comes to doing interior design, I feel completely overwhelmed. I like looking at stuff that someone else has already beautifully created but doing it myself has proven to be difficult in the past. I came to Carly with a color scheme, "vibe", and a few trinkets that I wanted to incorporate into my living room. Not only was she patient with me while I debated between eggshell, opal, and every other shade of white in the book; but she was also kind enough to dig deeper in order to find out what my tastes are. After I chose a color, she showed me a plethora of fabrics and window treatments. She guided me to exactly what I had been looking for! I went to the fabric mill to buy a curtain rod and finial. Didn't have the item I wanted in stock so they ordered it for me and I placed this order end of April beginning of May. They delivered it in June and when I went to put it together I noticed that the 2 finial damaged. They had 2 huge holes in them. I went to return them and they placed an order for two new ones and it is end of August and still haven't received them. Every time I called them they said we're going to look into your order and never return the phone call regarding the status of these items. I get this excuse that the merchandise comes from China and it is on a delay. This is the excuse every time I call them I'm getting to the point that I am disgusted by the customer service and I am deciding to take everything that I bought from them and returning it. I would never go back to the store for anything else. Before you deliver merchandise to your customers you should inspect it and it looks like it was never never was. I purchased plantation shutters from them and (1) needed repair. After 2 1/2 months of calling, someone finally came to get the shutter for repair. Today is 4 1/2 months since someone got my shutter and i STILL have not gotten my shutter back. The customer service there is less than ok and it makes me wonder how they actually stay in business. Since I am almost certain my review wont make it to their website, I will go ahead and write my review here on yelp where it cannot be removed!! I purchased a fabric from their site after seeing images of that fabric upholstered on chairs and posted on the site (several photos). When I received the fabric it looked nothing like the images. I did not order a swatch prior to purchasing, however I tried to explain this situation to the rude customer service agent (if you can call him that) but ultimately his mind was already made up before I could reason with him or his superior. Here is the review I tried to post on their website: The images of the fabric on the upholstered chairs are a very gross misrepresentation of this actual fabric in person. The colors look absolutely nothing like in the images and I am almost convinced this is not the same fabric that is being shown. It also states that this is a cotton velvet. I do not feel anything "velvety" about this fabric. It is hard almost like sand paper. Colors are very yellow and very bright, pretty much the opposite of what you see on the computer screen... Even if your screen colors are fully calibrated, the fabric would still never look anything close to the image. I do not believe a dye lot could differ so much in color as the customer service representative from fabricmill.com tried to convince me is what happened when I received my order. On a side note, do not bother with the customer service from this website at all... rude and unwilling to help the customer. I will never shop here again. read more

This might be a weird place to post about but, they are really good. The material seats on my kitchen chairs wore out. Normally I would go and buy new chairs. Money hasn't been as plentiful. I went and looked at all different types of fabric. My wife and I agreed on a cool leather looking fabric that looked like ostrich skin. It really dressed up the kitchen and matched perfectly. It also wasn't very difficult at all to re-upholster the seats. Was a fun project and turned out to be really cheap. Also, the people were very nice and helpful. read more

Bought roller shades for my daughters room several years ago and then went back in 2013. What a difference a few years makes! The shade lengths were too short, the blackout material was too thick so you could only roll them half way up because the diameter of the roll became too thick. They also added a plastic border. The trim was glued on poorly. Finally, the stick at the bottom of the shade is not secure and comes out it not held level. Now, the roller stopped rolling up...how much will this cost to fix... read more

I just went to this store to redo my bedroom. I got new pillows, drapes, and even a new comforter. I was surprised by the selection. So many fabrics to choose from, and all reasonable prices. The customer service was very helpful. They handled everything for me, and even helped me pick out the types of fabrics based on my color collection. Our experience with the Fabric Mill was nothing short of HORRENDOUS. The Fabric Mill was recommended to me by a good friend. She said the fabric selection and workmanship was good but the service was problematic. Her comment about problematic service was the biggest understatement since General Custer said I think the Indians might be hostile. We had 26 dining room chairs (for two houses), two couches and a bench recovered. We also had a bed skirt and pillows made for our bed. Needless to say, we spent thousands of dollars. Not one deadline or obligation was honored. Couches, chairs and a bench were to be delivered to our apartment in New York City. The couches and chairs were delivered and the bench could not fit in the van. Rather than reschedule delivery, I decided to pick the bench up. Notwithstanding promises made, it was not at the Fabric Mill when I arrived. As a compromise, I met the upholsterer at a COSTCO parking lot on my way out to my home on Long Island. Although the bench pickup was confirmed, I did not receive the courtesy of a phone call to advise of the fact that the bench was not available for pickup. Attempts to verify the pickup time via phone call were not successful as I never received the courtesy of a call or return call regarding scheduling. The orders were placed in August of 2013 and the 18 dining room chair, seat cushions for my Long Island home were not ready until late January 2014. I made arrangements to have my husband to pick up the seat cushions on a Friday afternoon. I told my Fabric Mill representative that in order to pick the cushions up on a Friday, my husband would have to take a half of day off. I asked her to alert me in advance if the cushions would not be ready. I called several times again but I received no phone call or return calls to confirm the pickup. My husband took off from work and the cushions were not at the Fabric Mill as promised. He received the usual appologies but the inconveniences could have easily been avoided if even a modicum of courtesy been displayed. After some negotiation, the Fabric Mill agreed to deliver the cushions to my LI home on a Saturday. When the cushions arrived, my husband went upstairs to get his credit card to pay the outstanding balance. The two delivery men remained on the first floor while my husband was upstairs. When my husband came down to sign the credit card voucher, the cushions were stacked near the location where an envelope containing $1,100.00 had previuosly been placed. A few minutes after the Fabric Mill delivery people left, my husband realized that the money was gone. He immediately called the delivery person on his mobile phone but the delivery person did not answer. Several minutes later, he called the Fabric Mill to advise that the money was missing. He was told that FM would investigate. The Fabric Mill and delivery person called back and said the money was not taken. He explained in detail the circumstances of the event and he was told that the owner of the Fabric Mill would call. We never received a phone call from the owner. Theft is the only plausible explanation for the missing money. The only people in the house at, or before, the time of the delivery, were my husband, myself and the two delivery persons from the Fabric Mill. Moreover, if the cushions had been ready at the time of the pickup originally scheduled , there would have been no need to have FM delivery men in my home. Under no circumstances would I use or recommend the Fabric Mill. Any potential savings that the Fabric Mill might provide are more than offset by the aggravation, inconvenience and theft resulting from my interaction with the Fabric Mill. Unless you are willing to put up with discourtesies and criminal behavior, stay away from the Fabric Mill. BARBARA D. read more

As a frequent customer I came in to make my first return (calling ahead to make sure I can) drove an hour in traffic to be yelled at by the manager that he won't accept my return. The Fabric Mill is my favorite fabric store! They have such a huge selection and the manager and sales people are super nice and very helpful. The fabrics are much less than I've seen elsewhere and dont get me started on the trimming department its enormous. They don't have stores like this anymore. Also I bought Hunter Douglas shades at a great price too. I recently purchased fabric online too and my shipment came fast as scheduled and was exactly what I wanted.
