Never had a longer wait here than in any other well-run medical office. Dr.Reisner did my lens implants in both eyes when I developed cataracts. He was reassuring and answered all of my questions. I got the implants months ago and haven't had the slightest problems. Billing was straightforward with my insurance covering the basic costs, and the "extras" being out-of-pocket. No surprises, no unexpected fees. Staff is always polite and takes care of scheduling and other transactions promptly. Reading some of these other reviews, I wonder if there are two alternate dimensions and I'm in the one where The Eye Center is a good shop. I'd send anyone I know there for cataract treatment. read more

HORRIBLE experience today - I had been going there for a while and to my surprise they keep getting worse. I had a 1030 appointment and my wife at 1045. I completed check-ins earlier in the morning and and arrived at 1015 as requested. by 1130 i was still waiting in the lobby and when i asked we get typical answer running a bit late and it is another 15 minutes before we can see you = that is so disrepectful and LAST time i go there. my time is NOT valuable - to them it seems so. I've been a patient since moving to Ashburn, VA in 1997. When we relocated to the Richmond, VA area 3 yrs ago I continued to make the 5 hr round trip to get my eye examines twice a year. My last appointment was for 11AM on 13 March. Arrived ~15 minutes early. Sat in the examination room until 12 then tried to call the front desk to ask what was going on but there was no answer. Dr walked in, I asked for a sec because I was still trying to get the front desk to answer when she informed me the phones are turned off during lunch. The are NOT turned off they just aren't answered. So I said "if I didn't show up for my appointment, your office policy is to bill me for not cancelling 24 hrs in advance so how late can you be before I can bill you?" Dr got pretty huffy and a week later I get a registered letter from the CTO telling me because of my attitude, he was cancelling me as a patient!?!? read more

If there were a choice of 0 stars, I would have selected it. I have been a patient of the eye center since 2010. My story, in short, is that one of the doctors acted strangely by altering office notes when I requested that to send to my disability insurance company. Fortunately, I had a copy of the office notes previously, so I was able to compare the two notes and found out there were 3 versions of the notes for the same visit. When I confronted the office manager about the fact that the notes had been altered by expressing an opinion against my claim with the disability insurance company. I just asked a basic question: why did the doctor do that? I never received an answer or an explanation despite so many attempts. Instead, the office manager sent me a stupid certified letter terminating me as a patient of this awful place. I called and requested to talk to the owner, DR. Ayman Boutros, but never received a response. I really do not understand their unprofessional behavior with a very long-time patient who received treatments from at least 6 doctors working in the center. There's a lot more to say about misdiagnosis, referring patients to private pharmacies for expensive drops, and not being honest or transparent with patients. This is not a rating on Dr. Darrell Reisner's surgical abilities or mannerisms, but rather the office that runs the practice he is a part of. So in essence. it is a review of all of them. The Eye Center! I scheduled my two cataract surgeries with Dr. Reisner after an MD friend recommended him to me. I met him, had my initial consultation with Dr. Reisner. He was great. I call the office a day before surgery because the directions given to me do not match the names of the eye drops I was subscribed to. The drops also cost over $400, and insurance doesn't cover them. I stay on hold forever; the front desk assures me he is getting the information I need from the nurse. He comes back and gives me absolutely the wrong information. My husband and I research online and figure it out on our own. Thank god we didn't listen to him. Surgery eye number one done, and here we are post-operation day one visit. The waiting room is so busy, and older people are standing--no room to wait. Hold up, don't we have a global pandemic right now. My wait is almost an hour. The nurse gets me in and says, what did you do? Did you have surgery? She is having me look into a machine. I look at her weirdly, and she confesses, well, I didn't review your chart. Are you kidding? What are you measuring and doing with me then? It is fine; I get over myself and have my post-surgery exam with some lady I never met before. All she has to do is look into making sure the implant is ok. She does, and I leave. Visit 3, with Dr. Reisner. Waiting room packed. Wait over 45 minutes. He gives me directions on my left eye drops and gets me ready for surgery 2 on my right. I have the second surgery. In the meanwhile, the cost of the drops bugs me. My insurance says, oh, it is an easy fix. Just have your doctor call this office number 888-xxx and we will add it, and you won't have to pay the $$$. I call the front desk. Not only does he not understand what I am saying, 'simply call this number at Anthem and tell them you want them to include this drop in their system', he tells me I am stupid and understood them wrong and says he has to things their way. I let go and pic up all my Rx. Now two additional drops are in the bag of drops, not one explanation from my doctor's office. Ok. I let go again. I am a cash machine, you know, who also has a medical degree, who can just research medicines. (NOT) Eye two is done and post-op appointment, and I am here. This time, I see the same lady I saw on my first post-op. Who ultimately tells me different things about the drops I have left to use, contradicting my surgeon's previous instructions. I decide to ask about the new drops that showed up last week. She is clueless. What am I even saying to her? I let go again. It is honestly not worth it at this point. I am never ever coming back here again. Except for follow-ups to make sure I don't go blind. I am ready to check out and schedule my one-week post-op. I ask for my surgeon to see me. They look at me like I have four heads. I explain I am more comfortable seeing the guy who performed the surgery since all of you are not on the same page. The answer: WE DON'T DO THAT! Why? We just don't. Why can't I see Dr. Reisner? She says I will call my manager. The woman who is the manager says that in 25 years I have been here, we DO NOT let you see the doctor who performed your surgery. Why? We don't, ok! Wow. Customer service. I let go again. I also let go of almost $9,000 out of pocket. Sadly in the USA, insurance companies consider corrected eye vision a luxury, like bigger boobs or butts. I am pretty sure eyes, and eyesight is a big deal to have work right. But that is another conversation. You can read all the other one star, two star reviews. They all say the same thing. See Dr. Reisner. Avoid his office. Well, you can't. So my suggestion is this: Dr. Reisner read the reviews!!! Start by paying your people and train them properly. You all make enough money with what you charge your patients; you can afford to fix your operational issues. read more

They kept me waiting for half an hour and then told me they got the wrong insurance information so they couldn't do all the eye exam even though I had confirmed with them that I can do the regular exams before I made the appointment. the staff is improperly trained, I had to retrain an employee on field testing for glaucoma because she was using the wrong lenses for almost a year of employment. the manager "Maria" cancelled my health insurance out of spite while I was 7 months pregnant and just lost my father to cancer two months prior because I had doctors notes stating medical limitations she didn't appreciate. HR didn't care, the staff are all miserable and talk about eachother And their personal lives, the manager shares staff personal lives. I've been working in this field for 10 years and this is by far the most toxic company I've ever encountered. read more

I was a patient of Dr. Nguyen and she was very professional as well as an awesome Dr. I also purchased eyeglasses from Robin and her customer service is outstanding. Terrible..I was recommend to them from my Retinal specialist..Called and was put on hold several times..over 6 minutes..Final when I was asked to hold again was asked.."what did you want?.. I explained I was referred to them and she told be the doctors were booked out 6 months and I would not be able to see any one.. CRAZY! Apparently they don't need any more business. Dr Phan has been my primary optometrist for the last 3 years and I couldn't be happier. She has made my visits simple and easy to navigate through and not the chore other places have been in the past From the receptionist to the assistant to the doctor the visit only took about 35 minutes. I had an appointment for myself and my father. The tech was aggressive, impatient and rude with my elderly father. The Dr was dismissive, short, rushed and judgmental. Every step of the way I needed to ask for the information instead of it being shared. The operation feels more like a factory line. If, like me, you are limited by who you can see due to your insurance, they get the job done, but it just may not be the most pleasant experience and you will need to go in knowing what questions you need answered and be ready to advocate to be heard and to receive the information you need. i have heard they tend to have issues with billing more than they should or not being helpful when it comes to dealing with insurance companies to get your full coverage. I can't speak to this as it hasn't been long enough to know, but I'll be back to inform you if that is indeed something I experience. Best of luck read more

Dr. was very nice but the nurse or the staff who does the beginning process was so rude and she doesn't have any respect for patient as well elderly people. Because of nurse i have to reschedule my mom appointment and even she was there again and she talk to my mom as well my daughter very badly. With a history of glaucoma in my family, Dr. Boutros has always been a caring and detailed doctor when it came to my parents vision care needs. In my adult years, Dr. Boutros passed the mantle to Dr. Diem Nguyen, who carefully monitors the health of my eyes and the adjusts my care according to the findings of each visit. I never feel like my visits are rushed and she is always attentive to the needs of my eyes as a pre-glaucoma patient. This practice is the epitome of excellence and I've enjoyed the years of dedicated service to me and my family's vision care. read more

I've been going to the Eye Center for years. Loved Dr. Bourdeau, but she moved on. Dr. Nguyen is fine. Dr. Reisner did a great job on my cataract. Used to have long wait times and very crowded waiting room, but that hasn't been the case for me in recent years. I used to use VSP insurance, but switched to using my Aetna once I had the cataracts. I still have both insurance coverages, but the office isn't interested in using VSP. They clearly make more money with Aetna, but I do get more thorough and more tests done, which is fine since I now have issues. read more

I literally left in tears because front desk laughed at me when I had to pay $300 when they said I wouldn't need to pay over the phone. I called over 3 times to make sure and their job is to ask for our name and check the reason we are coming in and let me know if insurance covers or not. Clearly not once did the person I was on the phone with did that. I'm a young latina adult who is struggling financially and it was beyond disrespectful and hurtful to see them laughing at you struggling to pay your necessities. Not once did I yell or make a scene, I was just asking questions and reasoning as to why they said completely different things over the phone and they threw immediate sas and utter disrespect. I've met 12 years old act more mature it's truly a shame how these people got hired. Two ladies bluntly laughed one was on the bigger side who I believe is caucasian and had curly hair. I hope the whoever runs this place get a hold of their people and know how to treat customers better. read more

Would rate zero stars if I could. Please save your time and money and go somewhere else. The convenient location really isn't worth it. The doctors fail to take accurate notes so they'll say one thing in the appointment, but when you call with questions or follow up, they will have written something different down and go by that instead, even at a major inconvenience or extra cost to you. They do not care a single bit about their patients - it's literally just a business trying to get as much money out of you as possible. read more

So I am not a patient here, but my partner is. I went with him to his eye appt and sat in the reception area while he had his eye exam. The staff at the front is completely inappropriate. They spent the entire time talking and laughing about their bar encounter from the night before and what kind of bar fights they almost didn't avoid. Once they finished that they savaged what to have delivered for breakfast or who would pick up what food. Clearly they aren't very busy because everyone just kind of stands around not working. I myself am in the medical profession and this behavior would never fly in my office. I went to Costco just around the corner for my eye exam and glasses and really had a 5 star experience! I have seen Dr Boutros at now 3 offices, I had my lasik about 10 years ago at the Fairfax office, I regularly have my follow up appointments in Manassas and had all of the appointments for my cataract surgery through that office. I have had floaters removed in the Fairfax office and today I had a procedure to clear up some fogginess in the same eye as the cataract at the Sterling office. I can not get over how wonderful , helpful and professional his staff is at every office I have been to. Today I even asked him if he would share his hiring practices with me as every member of his staff that i came in contact with knowledgable, friendly and have wonderful customer service skills. I was taken back to the exam room within a minute of my scheduled appointment time and the procedure was finished in just a few minutes. Dr. Boutros is a miracle worker, he gets straight to the point and for each procedure has given me the most accurate description of the process and set my expectations and provided exactly what he said he would. I can not come up with words to describe how highly I would recommend him and ALL of his office staff at the Fairfax, Manassas and Sterling offices. I would have to agree with all of the other reviews here. My interactions with the staff have been acceptable, polite, though nothing "above and beyond". The wait time is the worst. I came in for my appointment on the dot and was kept waiting for an hour while they took patients who had appts scheduled much later than mine. Even if you came in 30 mins before your appt time doesn't mean you should get the jump on other patients who were still on time for their appt, but arrived later than the early ones. Billing also seems a bit confusing (I have horrible VSP insurance). They sort of explain it to you, but it's not entirely clear, and I left feeling a bit ripped off. They didn't have the contacts I usually wear, and had to order trial lenses - twice, for which I had to come back - twice - for additional fittings. So, even more wait time for additional appointments. The waiting room is always packed. I called to let them know the trials were working well for me, and I'm still waiting for a call back to let me know they've arrived (since they also had to be ordered). I will definitely not come back here, and it's probably just as much, or cheaper, for me to go to Hour Eyes or some other cheap quick place for contacts and fitting without using VSP insurance. This place is definitely on the higher $$ scale in terms of what they charge. I think the contact fitting was around $135, which may have included a 15% discount from my insurance. I don't think that included the general exam fee either. read more

If there's a zero rating, I would definitely give this place a zero. It was the most UNPROFESSIONAL eye exam I have ever gotten. When I got to the eye center, it was the assistant who gave me the eye exam, not the doctor. I thought the assistant was in training only. But when the doctor came in and looked at the results, she said, i will just give you -2.0 and -2.0. Really?! And for the past 6 years, I have a record of astigmatism. I did not see this result on my eye exame but only -2.0 and -2.0 for both eyes. I will never go back to this place again. read more

Both - my wife and I did LASIK corrections with the Eye Center and were very happy with both results as well as professionalism of the medical staff. We have been coming at least once a year for years for our routine check-ups for over 15 years, however, as of today we made a decision to look for a different practice. I still believe that on medical side they are fine, and they provide a good service for money - however, while I have no idea whatsoever which practice we will go to in future (of course it will not be related to the Eye Center) - I think if they do not care whether to try to keep clients that have been going there for 15 or more years - then I will chose to spend my money elsewhere. I wish them all the success in the world - but, we will look for different providers, although I still want to thank them for what they have done for us medically. Please note our decision to change providers has absolutely nothing to do with the quality of their work - just with administration part of the business. read more

ZERO stars. Eye Center misleads you in the warranty. Nose pieces are not considered under manufacture warranty so if you don't retrieve the defected part that falls off, it's Your Loss. They even admit that they are scared to not get back their money from their suppliers. Save yourself $120+ and go to Hour Eyes. It takes an extra 10 days but you will feel better for the year you wear those glasses. Kids clearance sales are $20! Please note: This is the first bad review i have ever placed. I've been going to the Eye Center since I was child and had seen one doctor nearly the entire time. I had lasik a few years back. The surgery itself was fine. A year in I noticed my eyesight was already deteriorating a bit - not a huge deal as I know it was a risk but I was told my eyesight was 20/20. Things continued to get worse - I no longer felt comfortable driving because I couldn't read street signs until I was very close to them and would be standing in a group of people reading a menu or other sign and be the only one squinting to see it. I went in for my next annual exam and explained the issues I'd been having. I was again told that my eyesight was totally fine. When you have lasik its basically under warranty as long as you get an annual exam. My guess as to what was happening is that they thought I was trying to cash in on a touch up which was not the case at all. I was genuinely having a difficult time seeing. I asked why I might be having difficulty seeing when my eyesight was supposedly still fine and was told that the conditions of the exam room may lead to me having better eyesight than in the real world. Sure - it's a darkened room and I'm reading black letters on a white background, I believe that - but how does that help me out when I'm driving or trying to read projected materials during a meeting or training. At this point, the doctor must have hit some panic button because a nurse/aid appeared in the doorway. I should note that this particular nurse/aid is someone who helped me put in my first pair of contacts many years back so this whole situation felt very bizarre given that I've been seeing these people for well over ten years and had never once had a single issue or questioned anything that the doctor said. Why was I not being listened to? At this point I decided to go to another eye doctor and get a second opinion. Guess what?!?! I needed glasses. The next year I decided I would give the Eye Center one more try since I am under warranty and fairly young so will likely need a touch up in a few years time. I specifically asked to see a different doctor than my usual one to see what would happened. This time she told me that my eyesight had in fact worsened, but instead of discussing options with me -glasses, contacts, etc. she told me that the only reason my vision had showed up as less than 20/20 was because my eyes were really dry and handed me a prescription for really expensive eye drops. That was the last straw, warranty or not. read more

Waited 20 minutes after appointment to get the exam started...then 15 minutes to see the doctor after my eye dilation had completed. Then saw the optometrist for less than 5 minutes. Say what...and hour down the drain...and this guy just wants to verify the prescription and look at my eyes for 30 seconds and then send me on the way. If you are only seeing patients for less than 5 minutes..how the heck are you this far behind. I felt the staff was friendly...but I'll be looking for a new Optometrist for next years exam. read more

I take my kids there too and l have had mostly good experiences. I had laser eye surgery years ago and they were awesome for pre and post surgery appointments. We have VSP insurance as well and have never had a billing issue. I really like Robin that has worked in the Eyeglass center there for years as well. She makes sure everything fits properly and knows her stuff. The front desk staff needs a major overhaul. If you value your eyesight never go the The Eye Center. I found out from experience just how little they think of their patients. I had cataract surgery by Darrell S. Reisner, most egotistical person you will ever encounter. Not only did he get bacteria in my eye during surgery, but within 24 hours I was blind in that eye. The dr. oncall, Dr. Boutrous, would not come to the ER I had taken myself to in Leesburg, just said make an appt. for next day. The check-up the day after surgery was not done correctly, thus missing the reason I was there - to check for bacteria. Life has become very difficult with just sight in one eye.
