Buckle up, this is going to be a book. I have THOUGHTS. :) I wanted to wait until I had been attending The Exercise Coach a while to really see what results - if any - I'd find. I was skeptical. I'm 40, a mom of 2 young kids, and have worked out before without huge results. I lost 50+ pounds during quarantine and decided I wanted to try to build muscle, too. I'd done kickboxing programs previously where I was working out an hour a day 6 days a week, and it was just too much commitment/time at this point in my life. I'd gotten fitter for sure and loved the classes/camaraderie, but never saw real visible muscle gains. I wasn't sure I could be motivated enough to work out on my own in a traditional gym. Needless to say, I was intrigued by the claims of "just two 20 minute sessions a week" that I saw in an IG ad. So I went and checked it out and did my free classes. I liked it, and the approach at least SOUNDED scientific. I liked the high-tech equipment. But I was still sure that after a couple months, I'd probably see little to no difference and quit.
However, after those couple of months - I WAS SEEING MUSCLES. Actual visible muscles! I certainly FELT stronger. I've now hit my 100 class milestone (so at 2x a week, I've been there almost a year!) and I've never been cut and defined like this. No amount of gym time or kickboxing classes gave me MUSCLE. I'm SHOOK. I'm definitely eating healthier, which is a huge contribution to making this whole "get and stay healthy" thing work, but the muscle gain would absolutely not have happened without The Exercise Coach. And it really is just 20 minutes twice a week. I also do bike rides and walks, and sometimes if I'm feeling really motivated I might do some light lifting or exercise at home on my "off" days, but TEC is the bulk of my exercise program. Also, the coaches and staff are fantastic and knowledgeable. They let me take it easy if I'm coming off an injury (I'm now at the age where if I sleep wrong, my back hurts for a week, ugh) or suggest a modification, or if there's a particular area I want to focus on bulking they will help me modify my workouts to meet that goal. I don't get super sweaty, I'm not sore the next morning, and while the actual active workout is killer at the moment I'm doing it, I don't feel dead/tired/sore the rest of the day.
Now the cons. It's expensive. And...that's it. It's expensive. The only con. For me, only having to carve out a total of 40 minutes a week is a HUGE benefit and well, well, WELL worth the expense since I've seen such huge results. My time is EASILY worth the cost of the membership.
One caveat if you're looking for weight loss and not just toning/muscle growth: you can't out-exercise a bad diet. Whether you want to lose 20 or 100 pounds - YOU CAN DO IT! They do have a food plan and an entire food guide that you get free with your membership. HOWEVER. If you don't follow it, you're not going to see results with weight loss. You MUST be in a calorie deficit to lose weight, full stop (whether you achieve that through calories in/calories out like I did, through intermittent fasting, through keto, through the TEC diet plan, etc. - it doesn't matter. But you must be in a deficit to lose weight!). Although it's just an easy 40 minutes of active working out a week, you will NOT see the results you want if you don't commit to a diet change. If you're ALREADY at your goal weight and just want to build muscle, than this is a no-brainer. Just remember to get your protein in since you can't build muscle without protein. ;)
In short - I love this place. I can't recommend it enough and I'll be going as long as I can possibly afford it. Give it a GOOD honest try with enough time to see a difference (i.e. don't go a month and give up - it takes time to build muscle!) and I truly believe it's a great program for anyone. 12/10! Highly recommend!
