I love this place. They are usually able to order anything I want. That is wonderful for the more obscure.

Since the first time we showed up til this day, there's always someone on the floor ensuring proper service and offering anything they can to elevate your experience. The selection is wonderful and at a great $ for the consumer. Hoping to get my brother a nice tour of the place when he visits, it's a must stop for any music lover.

Apparently, many people knew, because Karma has been around since 1970, and it's the oldest record store in Indianapolis. OK! I'm obviously late to the game. Usually, I visit record stores just to browse, but this time, I visited to find a specific album. But when I asked the kind people behind the counter to look up the album for me, I found out the album that I had in mind was actually out of print! So I could order it online, but it would cost like five hundred dollars or some obscene amount. The helpful people at Karma offered to order other albums by the same artist. But I didn't want that, and instead just browsed the selection of records that Karma. There are a lot of records here. Surely, if you're not dead set on a specific out-of-print record like me, you will find something here. They also have CDs. And the cool people at Karma are willing to order whatever you want (assuming it's not out of print), and it will show up at the shop a few days later. Man, you didn't ask, but this place smells like incense, I tell you what. Which is appropriate, I guess, because they sell incense here. I just mention in case you're sensitive to incense.

For a wheelchair user, I seem to have a weird fascination with everything in the world that's not…read moreparticularly accessible. Case in point? The Irvington Lodge. I love this building. I would never really recommend the building for wheelchair users, though I've managed to get around it fairly well. The building began development in 1921 and was completed in 1922. Like many Masonic Lodges, the ground floor was intentionally designed to allow for retail spaces as this would help support the Lodge. If you're familiar with the Irvington Lodge, then you know that it bears on it the rather ominous "Lodge #666" marking. It seems fitting to have this be in a neighborhood recognized for its many haunted locations, but there's no denying it even creeps me out a bit. The building was rumored to be the host of Ku Klux Klan meetings in the 1920s - KKK Grand Dragon D.C. Stephenson lived only a few blocks away in a mansion on University Avenue. Until 1950, the Lodge also hosted the Irvington Post Office. The Irvington Lodge continues to be an actively utilized building. Retail spaces are taken by Irvington Vinyl & Books, Hampton Designs Studio & Shop, and LVLUP Gaming Lounge. Additionally, Mosaic Church uses the Lodge's entire 3rd floor. Accessibility is most challenging in the 1st floor retail spots, though I noticed during my recent visit that Irvington Vinyl & Books had installed a bit of a ramp trying to help the situation. It's certainly not ADA, though it is an improvement. You can get into the first floor of the lodge. There is an elevator to the 2nd and 3rd floors. The 2nd floor includes a theatre room, reception room, a fully functioning kitchen, and a buffet area. You can rent these facilities and the rates are pretty market friendly. The Theatre Room has over 2300 square feet and many period touches still in place. It's rather stunning. The Reception Room is right about 1400 square feet. The 3rd floor has a couple of large main rooms. Hardwood floors are in place throughout and there's a stunning balcony that would be great for a wedding (unless you're in a wheelchair - then it would suck). This is one of those buildings I can't help but love. I'd give almost anything to have an office here, though it would inherently be a not particularly wheelchair friendly one. You also have close proximity to the Irving and nearby Irvington area businesses. Renting the facilities requires the usual liability insurance in place and a deposit, though rates are pretty friendly. They don't have preferred vendors - so, it offers flexibility that some venues don't. The Irvington Lodge was acquired, I believe, around late 2017-2018 by longtime Eastside resident Yasha Persson and a team. Given the pandemic was right around the corner, it was a challenging time to acquire such a beautiful building. However, here's hoping it continues to be such a beautiful, vibrant part of Irvington.

The human resources office needs a lot of help!! Their paper practices are Stone Age. The human…read moreresource coordinator has the messiest office, plus her system of doing things is just that- her system. I have seen this before in my lifetime and it is sad. We are in a technological era now, we left the industrial area already. The HR coordinator has built her identity into her job (sad thing) and thru many insecurities has made a system of ancient practices, (paper files everywhere) record keeping ( Microsoft word bullet point???) and tracking, to which she prides herself on being the only one who knows how to do what she has created. These office practices would be great if it was 1989...She has not professionally prepared herself as confident enough to teach her systems to the next person ready to take the reigns of the next who is hired on. She verbally bashes her human resource director and talks about him pretty bad. Again, priding herself on the fact that "he doesn't know what she does" nor, "could he ever do her job". It is this attitude which has imprisoned her to job duties, to which she is the only one who knows. I have never known so much about her personal life, nor would one want to know. I learned more about her life( she lives to talk about herself/insecurity) self worth and self esteem should come from you inwardly, oh! and major complainingIf she could step out of the area of needing to control everything and broaden her narrow perspective about professional atmospheres and cultures, she could be a great asset to a team. It is clear she does not work well with a team, nor will her attitude help her to do so. Control/ fear/ attitude/ arrogance seem to be the HR coordinators strengths. I worked there 2 weeks, and never was there any room created; desk/computer/ files/ to fully do the job duties asked. The one thing she allowed me to do, took a system she was not willing to move her computer for. How do I do the one thing u allowed be to do, (gate cards) when u won't move a computer to let someone work? Out of an 8 hour day/5 days a week, I was only offered time to be trained 15 minutes a day for 2 weeks. That is how controlling and fearful the HR coordinator was. If she really wanted to train anyone, she would have prepared room and allowed more computer time to better learn databases. But when you have a person who has allowed their identity to become "who" they are, control and fear can only run rampant in an organization such as this. The lack of communication and respect for fellow employees creates a hostile work environment, which is something they claim they teach against. I am disappointed at how unprofessional and uncoordinated they are. When someone did come upstairs to HR to file a complaint, they were heard, but the HR coordinator dismissed the lady's claim and talked about her so bad. Unprofessional and totally handled inappropriately. I can only imagine the countless other discrepancies that are talked about and diminished as nothing.
