The staff is amazing and the place is really cute. Lots of fun, educational toys for sale and to play with.

This store is FABULOUS for middle grades with a lot of resource books, posters, supplemental…read morematerials, etc. As a former 6th grade and now current 4th grade teacher, I LOVE Critical Thinkers for my grade levels (Lakeshore has mostly primary materials). CT is by far the only teacher supply store with a good stock of materials for my students. They are also the only store I've found in North County San Diego that has grade appropriate materials for my grade levels. HOWEVER, they're hours are terrible as they are closed on weekends...the only days I can shop! During the week I am in my classroom until 4:30ish and with my own children/family to tend to, I can't make it before closing. I also live about 30 minutes away. Not very convenient for the typical teacher. Also, they're website rarely works and they're phone system tends to be down (I think it's a cell phone?? So it does a ringback tone and sometimes disconnects) I grew up going to Creative Teaching Supplies as a child looking for educational materials and was saddened when they moved to a smaller location (town center owner is terrible...screwed over many small companies in this shopping center). I was hopeful when I became a teacher 9 years ago that I'd be able to use Creative Teaching Supplies/Critical Thinkers for all of my educational needs, but the smaller location, terrible hours, and difficulty accessing the website has been very discouraging. I'm not giving up on them yet as they truly are a great teacher supplier (for ALL grade levels...unlike Lakeshore) and there really are no other stores like them in North County. However, I'm nervous they'll close their doors because of their out-of-the-way location, terrible hours, and unpredictable website/phone. I've had to rely on online ordering a lot lately because I can't get to Critical Thinkers and there are no other suppliers out there for my grade level. I hope things change soon! I love the owner and the staff! I'm hopeful things will pick up as the economy improves...

Verbatim Books in North Park when in the area is a must…read morevisit. After getting iced strawberry lemonade from Subterranean Coffee across the street, I stopped in for a looksee. This books store has new and used books for all ages and a menagerie of stuff, some nostalgic vintage, comical, nonsensical and just entertaining. I'm a collector of lots of things, mostly luxury items and or things that have value. I've been at this bookstore many times but this time I was curious to see what valuable $$$$ books was available. The staffer Jon was pointed to the locked golden book case. Next to The Sexual Key to Tarot was The Ritual Magical Manual $650., appeared to be $$$$...but FYI There's a collection of books: The Bible, Dante, Dickens, Emerson, Molière, Poe, Voltaire, to name a few...all reproductions in golden edge pages, classically bounded for gifting or to showcase in your new library. Verbatim is not a hugh book store by comparison to The Last Bookstore in Downtown Los Angeles. Despite its moderate size, it still takes multiple visits to see and appreciate everything vintage, quirky and most of all enlightening. Worth visiting. Recommend

Plenty of space for you to 'cop a squat' if you find a book you want to dive into before committing to purchasing. The books are in a orderly fashion. Lots of cool bibliophile gift items too in case you are looking for stationery as well, they offer a few items to select from; ie; Journals etc. Respectfully Reviewed

Anyway, we had planned a weekend trip to Carlsbad and searched for used bookstores in the area and Farenheit came up. So glad we stopped in and were able to walk out with a few books. Many vintage finds for all you collectors. Look closely and carefully as there are so many nooks and crannies in the shop where hidden gems can be found. You can find art books to cookbooks to history books. Please note that the shop's lease for this location is up soon. If you and anyone know of a space in Carlsbad Village, please contact the store owner Philip. He and this community deserve to have a bookstore. We are never too old or too young to learn. Grab a book and enjoy a good read! Lookout for the bargain books! And I loved the music played during our shopping experience, French jazz, which set the mood for our lunch in a local French cafe. This is a small shop but they've probably got something that will catch your interest. I bought a fat history book (no, not a book about the history of fatties, come on, now) for 1/3rd the normal price. And it is in perfect condition. I also appreciated the notes throughout the store encouraging the reading of banned books. Seems an appropriate message given the name of the bookshop. Plenty of free street parking in the area.
