Coworker and I were staying at a hotel nearby in The Colony. Passed by and decided that's where we're having dinner. And so we did. Kinda odd, but you order on the back side where there's a large deck with chairs and fans. Lots of fans. We placed our order and sat inside, they only have 3 tables I think. Server brought us our drinks pretty quick. It took about 20 mins to get our food, but server said each empanada is hand made and they can only cook 6 at a time. Ok. No worries. When they arrive, they were hot and well worth the wait. Both were very flavorful. The owner's daughter, who was doing the cooking, stopped by and asked how things were. Told her great and I'd never had Puerto Rican empanadas, just Argentinian. She said AR empanadas are baked vs PR that are deep fried. And the fillings are somewhat different. Appreciated the info. Also had some fruity slushi that was a bit of a butt kicker. These are really good. If you've never had one, you gotta try them. read more

I ordered the three empanada with a canned drink & sauce (chimmichuri sauce- didn't try it because it was not included in my bag). I tried the pepperoni pizza, spicy ground beef and cheese and the pork one! The beef and pork one were my favorites. I also ordered a side of tostones and pineapple aqua Fresca. The tostones were fresh with a good sprinkling of salt. I would skip the aqua fresca- to sweet and artificial tasting for me! The interior is small but there are a few tables. I love a well made empanada and these qualify. They're really good. They have Colombian and Puerto Rican Flags, so I'm inferring that's type of empanadas these are. I've been to Puerto Rican numerous times and I'm familiar with a good empanada from there and from living in NYC. These were very good. However I have a few areas of improvement that's needed for this restaurant. I came here with my wife and she noticed the cook coming out to deliver food while having her cooking gloves in and the using those same gloves to open the door. My wife pointed it out and she denied this happen. We almost left at this point, but the cashier got the lady to change her gloves. When handling food you can't be touching door handles and then putting empanadas in bags for customers. I also think the prices to portion ratios isn't worth it. I know who to make my own empanadas, I get that it's delicate and a decent amount of work to make in bulk however they're not filling and small in size. You would need about 4 to probably to feel you didn't have a snack and instead had a meal. At 4.50 an empanada I can't deem this reasonable. This is more of an appetizer than a meal. Even though the empanadas are tasty, the crust is flaky and fried well the flavors is very good and the meat is tender. I had the beef and cheese. We were tasked with finding a catering option for a corporate event and this place had great reviews so we tried them out first. The flavor of the empanadas is a solid 5 star, especially the beef and sweet potato. I also really enjoyed the beef and cheese. I feel like the prices are a little high but it's not too bad. We decided to go with them for the catering but when we called to set up an order and verify that they could do a catering order for later in the week, we felt a little dismissed and were told to order online. It didn't feel like they understood that we needed a catering order but they were so quick to hang up. There is no option online to order a large order without making many half dozen orders and we still didn't feel comfortable that they could handle the volume required without verifying first. We were going to go ahead and order many half dozen and call back to verify that it was possible afterwards but they were currently out of the sweet potato and beef for the day and it did not show in stock for any other day. Since it was my stand out favorite, we called back to ask if this meant it would still be out of stock later, or if it was an app error. I don't know if they were just busy or if this was bad customer service, but they felt dismissive again. We ended up choosing someone else. This review is for our catering experience. I still don't know whether or not they are able to do catering orders. read more

Very poor service to show hours of 12-6 on Sunday and no one there to open the place and serve customers. Several others were there and also left or went to other places. You lost a lot of business on Sunday. By the way your site states 10-6 every day closed on Mondays, your door states 12-6. So not sure what your actual hours are VERY DISAPPOINTED that we traveled a long way to try this place out, complete waste of our time. Ever since my trip to Tulsa, Oklahoma, I've been searching for empanadas that could match that experience, and let me tell you, I hit the jackpot! I ordered the six empanadas combo, which came with two delicious sauces for free. The star of the show was definitely the ham and cheese--oh my goodness, they were incredible! I also tried two mouthwatering chicken empanadas and two others that I can't quite recall, but they were equally delightful. They give you two options: deep fried or baked. I highly recommend deep fried! The crust is so flaky, with the perfect texture. The filling is moist and seasoned just right. Had the traditional platter of arroz con gandules, pernil (pulled pork) and tostones .. and it was on point ! Had me feeling like I was back in NY or PR! The pernil was tender and perfectly seasoned as was the rice which had that hint of cilantro and pieces of diced ham. The tostones were crispy and non greasy. I also had a beef and cheese empanada and my only regret is I should have ordered more. The ground beef empanada was again so flavorful and perfectly seasoned. The food can take a bit to come out but that's because it's cooked fresh and it's a 2 person operation. The cashier/waitress is friendly and 1 chef who's super chill. She steps in when needs to and also serves the food as I was waiting for my to-go empanada and she packed it and brought out to me. Spoke to the chef and you can tell immediately her passion for making authentic PR food from her mother's recipe. Inside is small but a cool vibe and they have plenty of outdoor seating.
