the Empanadas were AMAZING got the 1/2 with the traditional Beef Empanadas and beef and cheese, just the plain beef were a bit dry, butt the beef and cheese were AMAZING. got a dessert empanada of Moms Favorite Apple pie, they are small but they were delicious! outside dining only, was kind of too hot to eat out when I went. and they didn't like when I tried to go into the restaurant where seating was . would definitely go back when its cooler outside to enjoy the outside seating

THIS restaurant is The Colony's best kept secret. I selfishly almost don't even want to tell y'all how amazing this food is. My wife and I are New York natives who have traveled back home "just" for the food. Well, not anymore! From the sauces to her hospitality, the owner has created a delicious and comforting place that deserves to be frequented. Every morsel of my golden and flaky empanadas was eaten. MRS got a bowl to go. Oh, can't forgot the space is clean and surrounded by a beautiful deck with a dog park in the back. We WILL be back!

Decided to place an order for dinner on a Tuesday evening. Ordering online was easy and order was ready in 20 minutes. I ordered the three empanada with a canned drink & sauce (chimmichuri sauce- didn't try it because it was not included in my bag). I tried the pepperoni pizza, spicy ground beef and cheese and the pork one! The beef and pork one were my favorites. I also ordered a side of tostones and pineapple aqua Fresca. The tostones were fresh with a good sprinkling of salt. I would skip the aqua fresca- to sweet and artificial tasting for me! The interior is small but there are a few tables. The patio is the place to be overlooking the dog park. I will definitely return to try some other empanada flavors!

DFW #1 SPOT for AUTHENTIC Puerto Rican Food EMPANADA JOINT I come here at least twice a month, its sooo good!! And I finally tried the Saturday Special The pulled pork bowl! It was flavorful and fresh. Personally I am not a fan a pork but I enjoyed the flavors of the bowl as whole! And for the main event.. those empanadas?! Omg! My favorites are the spicy cheese & beef, chicken, and the guava & cheese! My goal is to try every flavor by the end of the month I'M obsessed! And pleaseee DON'T SLEEP on the Tostones! They are fried plantains, a sweet and salty side Fast, Amazing Service! Family Friendly & Dog Friendly Atmosphere

I love a well made empanada and these qualify. They're really good. They have Colombian and Puerto Rican Flags, so I'm inferring that's type of empanadas these are. I've been to Puerto Rican numerous times and I'm familiar with a good empanada from there and from living in NYC. These were very good. However I have a few areas of improvement that's needed for this restaurant. I came here with my wife and she noticed the cook coming out to deliver food while having her cooking gloves in and the using those same gloves to open the door. My wife pointed it out and she denied this happen. We almost left at this point, but the cashier got the lady to change her gloves. When handling food you can't be touching door handles and then putting empanadas in bags for customers. I also think the prices to portion ratios isn't worth it. I know who to make my own empanadas, I get that it's delicate and a decent amount of work to make in bulk however they're not filling and small in size. You would need about 4 to probably to feel you didn't have a snack and instead had a meal. At 4.50 an empanada I can't deem this reasonable. This is more of an appetizer than a meal. Even though the empanadas are tasty, the crust is flaky and fried well the flavors is very good and the meat is tender. I had the beef and cheese. I won't be back for the aforementioned reasons.

The empanadas are excellent. The service is even better. I would recommend this place 10 out of 10×10.

    Delicious crunchy empanada!

The empanadas are so flaky, crispy, crunchy on the outside! I typically get the spicy beefy cheese empanada and I love the flavor. Sorry, took a bite out before I could take a picture.

Half deep fried, and half baked beef and chicken empanadas!
    Kim K.

One of the best empanadas I have had (and I've had many before). I used to live in CA and ate empanadas all the time and was looking for a new spot to go to. So glad I found this place! They give you two options: deep fried or baked. I highly recommend deep fried! The crust is so flaky, with the perfect texture. The filling is moist and seasoned just right. The beef comes with a chimichurri dipping sauce, and the chicken comes with a spicy Mayo sauce. Perfect combo. I recommend placing your order ahead of time to pick up. I will be back for sure!

Service and food were good. But the empanadas are absolutely overpriced. For $4.50 for one, it shouldn't be made for ants.

Located in unassuming part of Wylie/St.Paul the restaurant is smack down in the middle of the strip along other places I wanted to try. I ordered their Carne Frita con Arroz. Flavorful chunks of pork which came with fried banana, rice, and beans.. Even though I've never had an actual Puerto Rican food, I expected a whole lot of flavor just by reading about cuisine. I really enjoyed the carne frita and thought it is almost similar to lechon kawali (Filipino dish) but this much leaner part of the pig. Service was very friendly, they'll answer any question you might have especially if you are unfamiliar with the names of some of the dishes. This is a family ran business, you'll feel that upon walking in. Very homey and welcoming. You'll be transported to PR while dining here.

It was quite small, just a row of tables straight back from the front. I was looking forward to some good paella, so I ordered the Valencia small size ($20). It was served in a small sizzling skillet, which was harder to manage than a bowl. First of all, the skillet was steaming hot, and was more difficult to eat. It was literally dangerous touching the skillet's rim, which could burn your hand. My first disappointment was that they didn't seem to use yellow Spanish rice, which I consider integral to the dish. I used to make this, and it was a somewhat long process, letting all the ingredients simmer in the pan to ensure the flavor permeated all ingredients. This was served with mussels, shrimp, scallops, and calamari. I opted to have it without the calamari. It was also served without a knife. As some of the mussels were closed, it made them difficult to open without a knife. When I asked for a knife, I was able to wrestle the mussels open, but found that they, along with the shrimp and scallops, had no flavor or taste. Evidently, since it was fast-cooked in the skillet, none of the seasonings flavored the seafood. There was a lime stuck in the middle of the sizzling skillet, which was too hot to squeeze. Also, serving it this way left you to scrape the rice off of the skillet sides. The dish was acceptable, but definitely a far cry from the Spanish or Cuban Paella I love. For that, I will always go to Bulla in Legacy, which is also less expensive. My husband thought he was ordering a Cuban sandwich, and even pointed to it in the menu when ordering. It was the ropa vieja Cuban sandwich. Instead, what he received cost a few dollars more, and was a bowl of hot ropa vieja, along with rice and beans. He said it was good. The dessert of cinnamon sticks in whipped cream atop ice cream was also good, although not outstanding. The single women's restroom was acceptable; although it was unique in being the only eatery anywhere in this area without a purse hook, which made it slightly inconvenient. Although a nice mom and pop small local storefront, we are unlikely to return.

I got a cubano, and it was a large portion that I was able to take home part of for another meal. I think the pickles could've been more pickle and less cucumber taste, but I loved the mustard and overall it was a fantastic sandwich. The guy who served us was kind and even made sure our drinks were cool for us. The less good: it's a bit of a run down vibe inside, and there were leaks and AC failings inside when we were there. The menu is a bit hard to discern if you're unfamiliar and only available on QR codes at the tables. My bf got a pork dish and mentioned that it was all kind of one note. His dish was more expensive than my sandwich by several dollars and you can see from my picture that he got much less food. Overall, I left feeling kind of wishy washy about this place. Perhaps it would be a great place to order unique delivery from rather than dining in, and I can appreciate the specialty food options overall.
