I attended the adolescent PHP program for about 3 weeks earlier this year. I was severely malnourished but this was the only place I was able to get into due to insurance. During my intake, they sent me straight to the ER. When I came back they said that they wouldn't do anything for me but I could stay under their care until I got into a residential facility, even though they wouldn't help me?. The medical rooms are very small and one of the nurses was super new and had no idea what they were doing at the time. The staff were soso. Very few were nice, the main bht that worked with the adolescent unit was very sweet and the main nurse was very hard working and amazing. The other staff were, I feel, in it for the money and didn't fully give the emotional side recognition. While they say they do DBT and CBT and other kinds of therapy, they include maybe one session a day. The kids sit on their phones or do alternate activities/ don't pay attention. Sometimes the group leaders would give in and try to get them engage by playing games that don't have correlation with therapy. They only have two therapists for the adolescents and you are randomly assigned a therapist which gives you little to no room to be comfortable. My therapist, had an awful style of therapy. When she would call me in weekly, we would sit in silence and she would ask me if I had anything on my mind, me being the quiet kid that I am, usually would say nothing. When I did talk, she would just smile at me or give a nod. It was so awkward and honestly difficult for me. I already had a hard time with therapy so it drove me further from it. Once I opened up about I was losing hair from malnutrition and how I was (obviously) upset and she laughed at me and told me I knew what I needed to do. While she was right, you can't just say that to someone who is very mentally ill. They also let me get away with eating so little there, though I was on a small meal plan, they wouldn't try and boost me when I didn't eat. During meals, staff would also call out kids who were staring off or avoiding their food from across the table and ask them to talk about it to the group, which for me and probably others was triggering. Also It was embarrassing. They could've came up to you individually which would've been more comfortable and helpful. As far as food goes, they would primarily serve us processed packaged foods with little to no nutritional variety. Their dinners were okay, but only when they had catering. They used the term "all foods fit", which sure it could be true but not serving a variety and only feeding disordered kids processed foods is not healthy. Calories were out for everyone to see, meal plans were known, it was just a setup for failure. Overall, I would say if you need to go to treatment for an eating disorder, I would recommend the Eating Recovery Center, they have both PHP and Residential for both adults and adolescents not far in Bellevue. They are better structured, the staff are amazing, and they care. If the Emily program was better thought through and they had better staff that liked to interact with the kids, they would be highly improved. read more

Not a good fit for my daughter. A week went by and she had not received any individual counseling. Mostly large group, little guidance or tools other than things you were not allowed to say or bring up in the group. Force Fed high calorie processed foods which increased my daughter's anxiety and created a major setback. Our experience was definitely not what we expected when we signed her up. Pulled her out after a week so make it open up a spot to someone else and then received late cancellation charges. read more

I was in php for many weeks. The staff was great. I learned alot. However over time they kept pushing that my progress wasn't as fast as they wanted. Than they kept pressuring me to do residential despite my thoughts and concerns. They told me I could no longer be part of the program unless I changed my mind. I want to start by saying the Emily Program my daughter's life. This program is hard! It is not a magic button that will stop on Eating Disorder. This program requires strength, dedication and hard work. we started the Emily Program in July 2024. I believed prior to that that this program would absolutely not work. I believe my child needed to be put in residential and this was my last ditch effort to keep her home. My child insisted that this would absolutely not work. She was not going to participate in it, and we were wasting our money. After our first meeting virtually with our therapist, my child seeing how serious this was, and as much as she did not participate in therapy, it gave My Husband and I the tolls we needed to push, and to be successful with family based therapy. We spent the majority of the time talking and asking questions and that's what this program is designed to do, this is designed to help the caregivers have the right tools to work with a child with an eating disorder. Yes it is still hard and yes, you need a whole team of people with you. You do need your pediatrician and other healthcare providers as well. We had a doctor from adolescent health at Children's Hospital, who also helped with fighting the Eating Disorder. Eating disorders are extremely difficult, you feel like your life is spiraling out of control and this helped us tremendously in stopping the spiral and regaining control back and fighting the voice my daughter's head that told her not to eat. If you're not fully ready to put in the time and effort that this program requires, it will not work for you. This is a program that helps you help yourself not magically Fix your child and have them start eating. After a few months, my daughter is now back to a healthy weight, but it is a constant daily process And the therapist at the Emily Program help you navigate through every step that you have to go through. We are now weight restored, but it is still a process that we still need help with because she's not fully healed it takes time. read more

This is the WORST PLACE to go for help. The staff are untrained and disorganized. There is no real reason to go here. I was far worse after being there. Half of the clients were actively using meth and harassing verbally and sexually interacting with each other and pushing unwanted sexual advances. Also the tone of the entire situation is money based, every few weeks it wasn't about you or your progress it's at any given moment they will tell you to pack your bags if your insurance payment doesn't go through. It is a constant hostile and belittling situation. Savannah is the absolute worst. She is a legitimate ping-pong and goes back and forth with you and the rest of the Evil Emily* program. It is not safe and is to this day a detrimental and physical tole on my health. It is a step in the right direction only if your aiming for suicide. You are treated as if you yourself are the disease to be irraticated. I have filed many complaints to the corporate offices and there is legitimately no response. I am now pursuing legal channels in terms of the pain and suffering and PTSD that has severely resulted from this disaster. They have an ongoing open door of h same people returning over and over and it creates a Stockholm syndromatic situation, they treat you like garbage and play off of people's weaknesses. It is a loop assembly line for them to exploit your bank accounts, insurance, and weaknesses for you or your loved ones. Take heed of these words as they are true. I used to see a provider at The Emily Program for psychiatric services a number of years ago and was jettisoned by the company, when the switch was made to go to strictly inpatient clientele a number of years ago. I tried again recently to see if the policy change had reverted to taking on clients not currently enrolled in the program and was told that was not an option. You can try to make it look like you care, but your policies tell the truth. Disappointing. read more

We pulled our teenager (who had completed a month and a half at residential), from the adolescent PHP in Seattle after three weeks for a couple of reasons. Firstly, they do not provide CBT and DBT group sessions despite them being on the schedule. Instead, the kids just go on their laptops and phones to do schoolwork and/or play games. After we told our daughter's assigned therapist at the end of the first week, she just said 'really? huh, well, it's on the schedule'. However, she must have actioned something because they did hold the group sessions the week following that conversation. It was short lived though, because the sessions were not held during our teen's third and last week. The kids that already were in program for some time said they don't usually have CBT or DBT. Second, they do not let the kids change therapists. There are currently two therapists in the adolescent PHP and our teen's assigned therapist was ineffectual to say the least. The kids' already in program, warned her the first day after she found out who her therapist was, that Melissa was awkward and silent in sessions. In session, she did prove awkward and unhelpful. She offered no words of comfort or insight in a particularly upsetting session. Her 'style' of therapy appears to be, 'ask a question and just wait for the answer, then nod and say that is totally valid'. Silence is a successful strategy when backed up by thoughtful insight, guidance and advice. That was not happening here. We told the dietician that there was no rapport or connection, and we wanted to change therapists. She told us that wasn't possible. Then joked that some kids didn't even click with her, the dietician. It is quite shocking to me that a professional within an eating disorder program would not understand the importance of someone in treatment having a connection and a rapport with their therapist. The food part was totally fine, the kids were monitored and supported during meals and snacks. The doctor and psychiatrist were kind and understanding according to my daughter (she got more therapy and advice from the psychiatrist than the therapist). Anyone dealing with an eating disorder or supporting a loved one with an eating disorder knows that eating is an important part of recovery, but even more important, is the mental challenge of recovery. In my opinion, the adolescent PHP at The Emily Program does not practice proper duty of care to the kids and teens in their care. The laid-back attitude to providing consistent therapy and the limitations of one-on-one therapists there were unacceptable to us. It feels like they do not know exactly what they are doing/are inexperienced. We opted to set up supports and treatments with separate providers from home. read more

The good, the bad, the ugly My 17 yr old was "treated" there for ARFID restricting, The good: the medical doc and head of psych The bad: they were not all equipped to handle ARFID. They say they are but they had no clue. They sat us down at intake to go over a list of foods to go to in case she didn't eat what was served. Doesn't work that way with ARFiID. The back up list IS the list of foods she will eat. They tried to serve her Italian subs for the meal when meats are on her red list: never has eaten and never will as it Not deemed safe. Someone who treated ARFID a would know that! They need to take the red/yellow/green List BEFORE patient starts! The girls were talking about very inappropriate subjects (drugs, sex, etc.). The fact they could talk about this means one of three things: 1) they were unattended 2) the therapist wasn't paying attention 3) therapist was paying attention and did not redirect. In all instances, this is not okay. For hippa reasons, they have a communication "tool" that times out after 24 hours so there is no going back for information given and if you or they don't read in that time window the message disappears and is never read. That became another issue,. The therapist was fresh out of college and not effective. The dietician was terrible at communication and follow through. The Emily Program has been going through a transitional time since I got there (in Residential Late . 2019 til and PHP treatment un2020). The staff for the PHP DBT program is inadequately staffed and there are therapists not trained for the DBT PHP program. I saw three different therapists alone in PHP and saw them infrequently so I didn't get the coverage that was advertised. The staff has no idea how to treat some eating disorders like diabulimia and solely relied on a client to teach them. When it came time to discharge me, my treatment team didn't know who I needed to properly confirm check-out. I would not suggest TEP if you are a queer POC, on public assistance programs or if you have Diabulimia. They will constantly ask for your flexibility, AND this is your treatment, on your dime. read more

I think I was still struggling when I left residential and it showed when I started PHP. They put me in lodging so I could go to PHP in person. So you know, I was born female in 1969, started transitioning about 2 years ago, so no real physical changes. I was in lodging for 2 weeks when they gave me a roommate. It was a cis male. Due to abuse during a 22 year marriage I have PTSD. I don't trust cis men. I told them this. They put him in the room, where I slept, regardless. For 2 days I got very little sleep, about 2 hours each night. I asked for something to happen so I could sleep and concentrate on recovery but they said they can't do anything. As far as telling me they couldn't handle everyone's " preferences'. So I left, and am right back to where I started. Between residential and PHP, I was away from home for 3 months. It was a wasted 3 months. I learned a lot, but still can't afford food, which I told them was going to happen. They did nothing. read more

I came here after my friend told me a friend of hers had a great experience here. After my initial intake and a few psychological tests, I was scheduled to see a doctor and get some blood tests done. I don't know if she was just having a bad day or what.. she was extremely short with me and condescending. I was put off, but I called during business hours to schedule my next appointment, no one answered. Called a few days later during business hours, no answer again. I left a message the third time. I didn't receive a call back, it was as if I never existed!! I'm shocked at the lack of professionalism here. By far my worst experience with a doctor or psychiatric care. Very disheartening when suffering from an eating disorder. I felt more alone than ever when this place, meant to specialize in my issues and guide me to healing, forgot about me and ignored me. Needless to say I relapsed terribly and it took me a long time to try going somewhere else for help. Please take care of yourself and find a professional who can help you heal. I have been to the Seattle residential treatment center twice now and am currently in their PHP program. I don't normally write reviews but seeing how many negative reviews there are I thought I would add my experience. I'll just be reviewing residential. The Emily Program has saved my life. The staff at the Seattle residential site (from EDTs, to therapists and dietitians, to the AMAZING nurses) are incredible. TEP is very gender and lgbtq+ inclusive; when introducing yourself you always say your name and pronouns and many of the staff themselves use they/them pronouns. The food is decent. You can have your phone on you at all times except during meals and groups (you either put it in your locker beforehand or, like most people, set it on the ground outside by the door). To me that was a huge perk of TEP vs anywhere else; I don't know why other treatment facilities need to take our phones away from us - we're adults. They follow the HAES/all foods fit model, and are exchange based. There are daily walks and yoga. There are six outside breaks to smoke. You can always smoke after lunch and dinner but have to eat breakfast and snacks in order to go outside for those breaks. This is one of my issues. First, there should be a smoke break at 6am, after weights are done. It's really hard for a smoker to wake up at 5:45 and wait two hours for a cigarette. There used to be a smoke break at 6 but they moved it to after breakfast. I don't understand why there can't be both? As a smoker already cutting way back and in a high stress environment, this was really frustrating. My other, and bigger, issue is the lack of seating and ability to find any quiet time for yourself. As an introvert this drove me mad. Rooms are locked after breakfast and unlocked at 7:15pm-ish to get ready for bed. There is one couch in the living room and it fills up quick. There is another couch in "the nook" but when you're level 2 (the starting level) you have to be in line of sight of an EDT and EDTs never go down to the nook to allow for level 2s to sit there. I think more of an effort needs to be made, like EDTs sitting in the nook without being asked, opening up the small group room when the living room is full, perhaps purchasing a small couch for the living room (could go by the door for kitchen supplies), or even allowing patients time in their room to decompress during the day. If you have sensory issues like I do this will be a problem for you. Thankfully the therapists are understanding and can make special allowances like allotted time in small group room or room, but I think TEP needs to be more proactive about this problem. All in all, I think TEP is a great program that saves many lives, mine included. I hope their EDTs are compensated well because they are the heartbeat of the program. I knocked off one star mostly for the lack of care for patients' needs for space, quiet, and even seating, but the morning break thing is also a frustration. But I would absolutely recommend TEP and truly believe they're a notch above similar programs. Edit: after seeing a review saying this program is not intensive, I decided to add a photo of the schedule (from October 2020 - they frequently make minor changes so it might not be up to date) so you can decide for yourself how intensive it is. On top of this you get pulled for therapy twice a week, and dietitian and psychiatry appointments once a week. I was in this program for a week and a half, and I was severely disappointed. I have struggled with body image and food addiction for most of my life, and the major philosophy of the Emily program is "health at every size". I am a psychology major and thought that this program would assist me and get me on the road to recovery. However, this was very disappointing - IS someone who is 600lbs "healthy?" someone who struggles with anorexia nervosa at 60 lbs, "healthy"? Also, we were told that diabetes, hypertension, and sleep apnea were not directly related to weight and issues associated with a specific BMI. who knew that years and years of research from doctors with 8+ years of experience were wrong? Many, MANY peer-reviewed articles contradict this information, which to me, is quite ignorant. There were no suggestions for those who were binging on unhealthy foods (but we were taught there are NO unhealthy foods). And that it was "okay" to eat when we were emotionally distraught or hurt. This is NOT how a person overcomes an eating disorder. If I binge and have gained weight on foods from relying on emotional eating and being told it's okay to emotionally eat, contradicts everything I know about gaining weight and there is no learning from that unhealthy mindset. The dietician and nutritionist in the program repeated time and time that there are no "bad" foods and that sugar and sweets are part of a healthy diet. Sugar is more addictive than cocaine, and sugar is NOT good for the body or mind. As emphasized by Ahmed et al (2013), the available evidence in humans shows that sugar and sweetness can induce rewards and cravings that are comparable in magnitude to those induced by addictive drugs. Although this evidence is limited by the inherent difficulty of comparing different types of rewards and psychological experiences in humans, it is nevertheless supported by recent experimental research on sugar and sweet reward in laboratory rats. Overall, this research has revealed that sugar and sweet reward can not only substitute for addictive drugs, like cocaine but can even be more rewarding and attractive. At the neurobiological level, the neural substrates of sugar and sweet reward appear to be more robust than those of cocaine (i.e., more resistant to functional failures), possibly reflecting past selective evolutionary pressures for seeking and taking foods high in sugar and calories. In the program handbook, there is no research or citations to suggest valid research, it is solely a matter of opinions. It seems like a program like this would be full of helpful research instead it's full of opinions and incorrect information about eating disorders. it's just very disappointing when people have been led astray and no valid help is being offered to fix the problem. However, despite the inconsistency and invalid research, the main therapist Stacey of the Program was a very helpful and sweet woman, who shows true empathy and just wants to make a difference for her clients. Before my son checked in we were absolutely assured that this program was covered by my insurance once we hit the out-of-pocket maximum of $2000. I was told I would not owe more than that for my son's care, and if something came up with the insurance they would inform me before moving forward. I also made certain by calling my insurance, and they said the Seattle facility, which my son attended, was covered. Here's the catch...when they stepped my son down from residential to virtual visits from home through their program, they neglected to tell us that they were using providers from their programs in both Spokane, WA and in Minnesota. Well, my insurance doesn't cover those locations, but we thought my son was still meeting with providers from the Seattle facility (some were). No way to tell because they were Zoom meetings and we were not told. Furthermore, the providers from Minnesota were telling my son a time and he would show up, then they would charge a fee for a missed appointment. My son kept telling them he showed up at the time they told him and the Zoom meetings were closed. Well, turns out they were telling him based on the time zone in Minnesota, but he thought they were in Seattle, so he kept missing appointments and not knowing why. We are now THOUSANDS and thousands of dollars in debt because we knew none of this until we recieved bills down the road. They would not budge when I called to talk with them about it. What a terrible business! BEWARE!!! I am reporting them to the BBB and the insurance commissioner. read more

Did your reply really blame my kid for the negative experience they had at TEP? The experience wasn't bad b/c my kid can't/won't make the changes necessary to have a healthy relationship with food. It was a bad experience b/c the counselors didn't know how to treat my kid's diagnosis, most of the time in the program is wasted time sitting around, the psychiatrist is too eager to prescribe drugs, and most importantly, the counselor betrayed my kid by drawing conclusions from things said in session instead of digging in and clarifying. I would NEVER recommend TEP for someone suffering from an eating disorder. If you just waste your time and money, you're lucky. For many, there is damage beyond just time and money. read more

The Emily Program came at a recommendation from my daughter's therapist. They based their plan on what my daughter was reporting, which was clearly not true. I told them a handful of times that her reporting information was false. They proceeded to recommend their highest level of treatment. When I finally decided we would not participate (they want these children to spend every day this summer from 8am-2pm in their room on the computer for their program as they are still virtual) and that we would like help - but on a smaller scale, I never heard from them again. If I could I would give this zero stars. I attended residential treatment in Seattle for anorexia. I was told that it would all be in person and that it would be intense. I WAS LIED TO! I only saw my therapist two hours a week. And I only saw my psychologist one hour a week over Zoom. Had I known any part of my treatment would had been telehealth, I NEVER WOULD GONE! I don't care why it's necessary. I specifically asked if any part of my treatment would be telehealth before I went in. They said it was going to be all in person. This was residential, we're living there, it's supposed to be intense. RIGHT! It was anything but intense. Start day off by going to group. For 45 minutes, then it's off to the living area where we wait for an hour to go to breakfast. I was there 3 weeks. In that whole time I not once, NOT ONCE, had I ate a hot breakfast. I am also a vegetarian. The vegetarian food is atrocious. I actually left restricting more than when I entered the program because the food was so bad. After we completed breakfast it was off to the living area....AGAIN! Where we would wait until lunch. We only had group time 2 hours a day. So thi is there idea of "intense treatment." Two hours a week with a therapist, 1 hour a week with a psychiatrist, and 2 hours a day in group. That's it. That is intense treatment. Now let's talk about how UN-FREAKING PROFESSIONAL the staff are. I filed two complaints with their home office against their staff. This is nothing more than a scam to milk your insurance company. If you have an eating disorder and believe that residential treatment is a viable option. Do not. I REPEAT! Do not go to The Emily Program. They will not treat your eating disorder. I left restricting more than when I entered the program and my eating disorder has gotten worse. read more

Do not waste your time and money on the Cleveland program. They hire Master's Level LPCs almost directly out of college who have limited knowledge or ability to manage patients with significant issues. There are significant communication problems within teams- they do not talk to each other. They were not even able to tell me when I was discharging. I came to program and they told me I was discharging that day without any transition plan. The Emily Program needs to pay their therapists better so that they can hire people who are actually experienced and competent. It is really sad that they have people who are so inexperienced treating people with such significant issues. read more

I was taken off my medications and not allowed to go back on them, see my doctor OR my personal therapist until AFTER I completed treatment. 6 months later. It's been over a year and my doctor and I are still trying to get my hormone and thyroid back on track. They didn't listen at all. All staff are inexperienced, no one can agree on anything, inconsistent and even conflicting information depending on what counselors and "nutritionists". I came here for treatment as an emotional binge eater. Got treated as an anorexic and was not given option to join the group of other with my same disorder. I finished all levels of treatment. My eating disorder has never been worse and my health never poorer. They don't focus on trauma, just food. I have ptsd from past events that have only been Intensified by the "treatment" at Emily Program. My thyroid was WORSE than it was the previous year when I started seeing a doctor to treat it. Emotionally, my Anxiety has become almost completely unmanageable, i am on two different meds for this. And the bill? Even with amazing insurance and help from loving friends and family, still took a YEAR to pay off. STAY AWAY. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY. THIS PLACE IS NOT SAFE. On the plus side , we had no billing issues. We are well insured and they got paid for every minute they could. However, unprofessional and uncaring can best describe the program . They dismissed my daughter with no follow up plan for care and no she did not break any rules etc. the dismissal was because they felt she needed the residential program. There was no warning and they changed her meds with no refills or discussion with her providers . It's actually negligent and they never returned my calls( yes we had a release to talk ). Fortunately , my daughter is thriving , eating, feeling better than ever.. so I guess she did not need the higher level of care after all( it's been over one year). read more

I completed three months of intensive treatment several years ago (Residential + IDP) and it absolutely saved my life. After less successful rounds of inpatient treatment at various facilities, The Emily Program's holistic approach to healing was what really gave me the tools and support to lead an ED-free life. I was very fortunate that I was on state insurance at the time so it covered most of the cost of treatment. I was also exceptionally thankful that The Emily Program accommodated my vegan lifestyle. read more

I called and scheduled a phone evaluation. There was no follow up after I scheduled the appt -- no confirmation, no emailed forms they said they'd send, etc. I called a few days before the scheduled phone appt, and they had no record of it. So I scheduled it again, and did the evaluation, at the end of which I was told I qualify for their services, and someone would contact me to start the program. She said they were busy, so it might be 2-4 weeks before I heard from someone. That was five months ago, and I never heard anything from them again. I have very good insurance, and you can bet they got their $305 from my insurance as well as my small co-pay, for the intake evaluation. I wish I had read these reviews before starting an intensive online outpatient program there. It was poorly run and the group therapist said some really problematic things. First of all, I was in a different state and no one told me until I was already in the first session that I had to be in my home state to participate. I had to re-arrange a lot of plans to be home in order to attend the sessions. Second, the group therapist blatantly gaslit one of the other people in the group. The group member was expressing fear about being negatively judged by others for her weight and the therapist said "I'm sure they don't think that." Completely inappropriate response. The group member had the wherewithal to say, "yes, they do, they've said it to my face." The therapist didn't really have a response. That is such a basic mistake, indicating a fundamental lack of training. The group sessions also felt pretty vague and unhelpful overall. Then, I got kicked out of the program because I got sick (by far the worst virus I've ever had in my life; I was sick for three weeks) and I missed three days in a row. I get that you can't just not show up, but there were no accommodations made for illness, and no follow up from the program, though my individual therapist reached out which was nice. I will say, the individual therapist was great and I think she genuinely cared about the patients and did a good job. Overall though, this is a terrible, profit-based program. The Emily Program (TEP) is poorly ran and manipulative. First they charge your insurance hundreds of dollars to give you an assessment (however, other industry professionals do not). I know this because I had assessments done with other programs and TEP was the only one that charged, not only that but they are the only one who assessed inpatient. I told TEP that I couldn't do inpatient due to my home schedule, so conveniently they adjusted my assessment to allow IOP. Kicker, they kept changing their wait list estimated start date, first it was a couple weeks, then at that mark they told me it would be a few more weeks, then at that mark they told me 9 more weeks! TEP explanation was they unexpectedly discharge a lot of people from inpatient and those people then get priority. Wow that leaves me with not ever trusting your "estimate" when it can't even be actually based on your wait list. Well, TEP here's a suggestion, don't mislead clients for months before giving them a massive wait time change and needed information regarding your waivering estimated start date. I should have gone with one of the other programs in my area because I would have been well on my way to completing a program, minimally I would have at least gotten the help I've been looking for. It's someone's job to keep the TEP wait list/client list as full as possible and if given accurate information about their nonpredictable wait list most clients wouldn't agree to vaguely kill time when they need help now. I was a patient here for 3 years, in all levels of care, and it was a fucking nightmare. Don't come here, Opal, ERC, or Center for Discovery are better programs with better providers. All of the providers at this location are neglectful and quite frankly don't know how to do their jobs (i.e. Shaina, Liv, Drew, and Jennifer Shannon to name a few). The only good ones have found better jobs at the other programs that's how bad it is here. Spend your money, time and effort somewhere else. read more

Like another reviewer below, the philosophy of the Emily program is food is food (there is no healthy vs unhealthy food). My daughter may eat 3 meals a day and 2 snacks now, but it is just processed food. This may make sense (not sure how) for someone severely underweight but not for a binge eater who has gained significant weight in the last year since attending the residential and outpatient programs. The program is doing a disservice in contributing/encouraging a process food addiction which will contribute to life long issues. The 3 meals/snacks need to be processed food free and real whole food (that doesn't come in a package). read more

This place is dangerous. Their staff is poorly trained and unqualified. They use interns straight out of college that are poorly supervised as primary therapists. They have a very poor and limited understanding of mental health and how enmeshed those issues are work eating disorders. I was a little wary of this program when I first started because I have had bad providers in the past. I was so happy and relieved to fall into the arms of the Emily Program's caring counselors, nutritionists, psychiatrists, and medical professionals. Before I was part of the intensive outpatient program (IOP), I was stuck in a cycle of depression, poor eating choices, poor exercising choices, low self-esteem, and hopelessness. I didn't know what to do. I didn't even know what I was looking for, but I wanted help. The Emily Program was recommended to me by my counselor at the time at Seattle Counseling Service. I had confessed to her that I was having problems with my eating habits and that I had been treated for an eating disorder when I was younger. I called the Emily Program that day and I was in for a consultation at 10 am the next day. Now I feel more prepared to deal with my mood, anxiety, eating habits, and exercise habits. The program has a really straight-forward method of teaching cognitive therapy techniques and building a sense of empowerment by providing caring support to their patients. They teach you what "normal" meals look like and encourage moderation. They encourage the clients to support and learn from each other. I met a lot of inspiring people. Also, the IOP program provides care from a variety of professionals, dietitians, counselors, doctors, psychiatrists, and even yoga instructors. Seeing a psychiatrist for the first time was extremely helpful in managing my mood and anxiety, both things I had no control over before trying medication. Now I am finished with IOP but still see my IOP therapist regularly. She has continued to provide me with necessary insights and therapeutic skills to overcome difficult times on my own. Even though I am still struggling, I feel supported and like I have a direction. Also, the program is queer friendly and trans friendly. I have never felt judged for my agender identity. Everyone is respectful of pronouns and sensitive to issues that might affect clients who are members of a minority. The only negative thing I have to say is that the IOP program is expensive, even if you have insurance. Everything worked out for me as I was able to continue working while in IOP. I feel like the money I spent was well worth the experiences and tools I took from the program. I imagine any intensive programming is going to be expensive, regardless of where you go. I have had no problems with the cost of my therapy sessions after IOP. read more

The other review that is posted is not for the Westlake location, and I want to encourage anyone who is thinking about getting help to make the first step and talk to someone. Do not let someone else's review give you a reason to keep from getting help, and definitely don't let the mention of gaining 20 pounds deter you either. Every therapist and plan is different based on your needs. If you are not happy with the treatment that you are receiving then you need to stand up for yourself and get a different therapist. I have been going to the Emily program for over a year and I cannot say enough about the treatment and compassion that I have received from the entire staff. I completely wasted my time here. And it affected my teens openness to therapy. Like another review, I have an adolescent and they don't have an adolescent program, which I didn't find out until after an initial call, and two visits, and they knew my child's age. They started my teen on individual therapy with the plan of perhaps joining the group outpatient program. But the outpatient program is only for adults -which I didn't know originally. The person who gave the initial consult and the individual therapist gave different opinions about what her care should be. One thought the adult program would be fine, the other thought the adult program wouldn't be a good fit, but still wanted to continue seeing my child for individual therapy? However they would only see her for three months because that is their limit on individual therapy-- at that time u need to join the 12 hour outpatient program or go somewhere else. But at the same time she's telling me the adult program isn't a good fit. What?? Of course I didn't find that out until after we had the first therapy appointment. I felt manipulated and frankly shamed as the parent. I got weird vibes that they try to sell the program and were given talking points. Both therapists said things like "if a client refuses treatment we can't ethically care for them long term." What that meant was they don't do individual therapy for longer than three months, unless u do their intensive out patient program which is 12 hours a week. I felt they are trying to only sell that program. Go somewhere else. It felt like the pressure and guilt from a Mary Kay party. read more

I had an amazing experience at the Emily Program. I did outpatient individual therapy, dietitian support, medication support and some group therapy all in one building. It was a great step down from higher levels of care. Every therapist or provider I worked with really genuinely cared for me. I am now in school to become a therapist, so I have had many opportunities to see many different programs, and I can tell you, this is a great one. read more

Do not go unless you read!!!!! These people will isolate you from you family... Even if you sign the paper work to speak with you family they can and will refuse.. If the family member calls they will just hang up on them.. They deal with fear... Telling you that you cant care for yourself and you are going to have a heart attack if you leave.. it is at will but when you enter they dont tell you about a 72 hour release.. meaning they will make you pay for 72 hours if you leave before signing the release.. and refuse to bill the insurance.. this is so they can make you feel bad about leaving - that you will not make it.. and again will tell you.. well if you have a heart attack .. we will take you back.. The director of the impatient.. is no help.. and tells the family one thing.. then yells and scolds the woman that is there.. about talking about their treatment.. to family.. since they have their phones.. they also push drugs to keep you calm and under control.. she had substance abuse with sleeping pills and numbing pill and been clean for sometime.. even that she told them.. they ordered pills and kept trying to make her take them.. Thank god she refused.. you have no privacy...and they have someone with you 24/7 even to go to the restroom.. shower.. etc... I guess if you are out of control and cant think for yourself this is a place for you.. but if you can.. be aware of this.. they will make you feel like a prisoner and make you feel bad about yourself.. They care about money more than the patient .... and will keep you there as long as possible.. read more

I dealt with Emily program in Lacey. I had just gotten through Remuda for bulimia....86th percentile (which is BAD) and it took a month to get in. Once i got in they traded me off between 4 different therapists before I left. (also literally all anorexic ballerinas) read more

After weeks of waiting and getting an appointment and talking to them numerous times we finally arrived for a meeting. I had asked them numerous questions on the phone and told him all about my daughter who is 13 and was struggling. We arrived at the center and were asked to fill out a bunch of paperwork. My daughter met with the nurse and they got all of her vitals. About an hour and a half went by when the therapist came out to meet us. We were told at that time that there were no adolescent program is available at this location. I find this absolutely unacceptable. Everybody knew my daughter was 13 when I set the appointment. Everybody knew my daughter was 13 when I walked in the door. Everybody knew including the nurse that took her for her vitals. And it took the therapist an hour and a half later to say that they don't have anything for my daughter? What kind of operation is this. So unprofessional and ridiculous. I hope no one ever goes here because they don't know what the hell they're doing. These people are supposed to help you with an eating disorder. All they did was create more chaos and uncertainty for my child. Please avoid this place if you care about your child. They can't help you anyway read more
