We didn't do enough research on Bryan and that's our fault. Looked at the reviews and jumped in. $8000 later, full of regret. He is not licensed in ANY way to be a family /couples therapist!! It felt like a con job actually that you wake up later and say, wait, what? When we were looking for a couples counselor and considering the reviews of various options, I'll admit that I was skeptical of Bryan's profile. With such a great score over that many reviews, I was suspicious: surely no-one could be that good. Bryan is that good. When I compare Bryan to other counseling I've received, two key things stand out: 1) He is highly structured; he has a curriculum you are working through, and his goal is that you understand and incorporate each portion. I never once felt directionless or like I was responsible for coming up with something to talk about, in contrast to past counselors I've worked with 2) He is very actively connecting dots. He listens closely, remembers what I said before, and works to draw out themes for examination and discussion. Other counselors I've worked with have felt like they were, essentially, responsive. They answered questions when I asked but otherwise felt like they were probing somewhat blindly. Bryan couldn't be more different. My husband and I reached out to Bryan for couples counseling to help our relationship move forward. We've also hit a bit of stagnancy in our marriage. This stagnancy and our different communication styles have caused some friction in our relationship and we wanted to find ways to remedy any animosity or friction that we had with one another. I came to Bryan after I ended my relationship and was also going through an existential crisis and depression. He helped me reconstruct my worldview, and guided me through the pain of the breakup. I found Bryan on a whim, and this is my first time seeking counseling. Our experience with Bryan was HANDS DOWN the most value I've ever felt from coaching/therapy. All of these incredible reviews are what made my partner & I call Bryan six months ago. We came to him with...a lot. Ultimately, neither of us grew up with healthy examples of communication and we felt like we were lacking the tools for the life we want to cultivate. It is sometimes so hard to fix and improve the structure of a relationship from within it; after many years together, my wife and I had transformed small fights into recurring resentment and this resentment undermined our attempts to find and fix the root of our disagreements. My partner and I were originally looking for a counselor to help us learn to resolve/mitigate arguments. Going into it, I wasn't expecting much. Many of the issues we had seemed like differences in our upbringings and our personalities. I didn't think that we would really ever resolve the core of it. BUT Bryan surprised us. The structure that Bryan presented was exactly what we needed to put aside pettiness and passive aggressive tendencies, and to work on a long term solution. We've had some tough conversations, but we always felt refreshed and hopeful after each session. Bryan has a knack for listening to people. Often we'd try to explain what we were feeling and it turned into a long jumbled rant. Each time Bryan was able to listen and regurgitate exactly what we were feeling in one or two sentences, and then connect it back to the structure.
