A fairly standard bar, located on the lovely Beech Road area of Chorlton. As a city dweller who doesn't spend much time in the suburbs, it could be the last place in Chorlton anyone would go, but it seemed lovely to me.
We were looking for somewhere to drink, pre-Drunken Butcher at Mish Mash down the road, and felt slightly out of depth when choosing. There was only 30 minutes until the event was due to start so we headed into The Elk; there's a nice outdoor seating area and small but long interior. It stretches further back than you'd initially think so don't worry if it seems a bit busy at first glance!
There are a few beer options on draught, and a cider, with a couple of bottles in the fridge behind the bar. Not wanting anything too experimental, I followed the other half's lead and had a pint of Shindigger pale. It was good, refreshing after a bad day at work, and nice to be somewhere very relaxed. There were also dogs in the vicinity - two English bulldogs and a black lab, if anyone's wondering (I know you are..) - which added to my relaxation levels.
The menu looked okay, though very non-committal on style, and affordable for the area. Perhaps somewhere to revisit but, with so many amazing options in Chorlton to explore, it's not top of the list. read more
