I have avoided Folk for a long time (years) after repeated episodes of bad service, but as a friend wanted to meet in there i gave it another go. I only ordered a hot chocolate, but it was hot and i didnt have to wait 20 minutes.....so its been a vast improvement on my previous experiences. I'll give it another go and order some food next time (which i have always known to be delicious....it was just the poor service that put me off.....but if thats now improved we could be on to a winner).

There's no doubting it. This place is great. Who would have thought that you could have such a wonderful terrace in a small suburban area of Manchester. When the weather is right, you feel like you could be in Southern Europe. The atmosphere is always great with a friendly, albeit slightly hipster, crowd. Food is usually delicious. The service can be hot or miss. A definite place to try if you're in West Didsbury.

I'm forever going to have a bit of a soft spot for folk as it is where me and my fiancée had our first date. We met up for some brunch and sat in one of the secluded booths round the back and things have worked out well since! The food is good. All home made and delicious. It's only recently that I've been in for drinks, and the covered outside area is great to have a few cheeky pints in good or bad weather. They continuously have 3 hand pull beers on, plus a selection of European bottled beers as well. A decent selection of wines and fizzys means it can cater to most peoples tastes

This place is amazing I highly recommend it! Everything about Folk is great, the food is amazing and really well priced and the staff are really approachable and helpful. We arrived at Folk for Sunday lunch and as soon as you walk in the door you are immediately hit with good vibes. Its only a small venue and when we arrived it was packed, but luckily we managed to find a table. They have an awsome breakfast and lunch menu with just the right amount of choices. I ended up having the lamb burger after some solid advice from our waiter Kenny and I'm glad I took it. The burger was BEAUTIFUL. This place is a must do for anyone looking for not only great food but a great all round experience in West Didsbury. Our total experience cost us just under £20 for a wrap, burger, fries and a beer! The great thing about Folk is that the service is just as good as the food! Kenny our waiter was superb. I can definitely say I'll be back again.

Quirky café and bar in West Didsbury that I've enjoyed everytime I've been there. This time we went for Sunday breakfast, and the eggs royal (poached eggs with salmon and homemade hollandaise), as well as the full English were really yummy. I used to love their pizzas as well (couldn't try this time as they only serve them in the evenings).

The staff are extremely friendly, I've seen the same young guy on shift every time I've been in and he makes you feel welcome every time, although I bit sorry for him having to be at work, early doors on the weekends. They have a good staple selection of traditional breakfasts, no fancy bagels or Benedict's of any sort to be found, which is not a bad thing when they use quality local sourced ingredients. As Raam pointed out in his review they use meat from Axons of Didsbury which is only a few doors further down the road. The coffee is very good and warrants a second cup with your breakfast and they've even served my friend an ultra big size each time he's asked even though it's technically not on the menu to provide him with his caffeine fix. Although I'm not a tea drinker I have it on good authority the tea selection top notch and they provide you with all the sundries which appear necessary, a separate milk pot and extra hot water provided with your loose leaf tea. There are newspapers provided and free wi-fi for those more technological media addicts. They promote local artists work on the walls as well which is a nice touch and most of the work is for sale if anythnig takes your fancy. It's something I've seen more and more in independent cafes and it's a practice of which I thoroughly approve. The only criticism which is more about the location. The tables are on the small side and wouldn't really accommodate a large group of people, this however adds to cosy cafe feel, as long as you a friendly enough with those you are eating with. It can however be a bit of a squeeze past if people are ordering or paying at the counter as you are trying to enter or leave. All in all a solid independent cafe just of the Didsbury high street, with great staff and a pleasant community feel.

Sandwich shops are ten-a-penny in this city but if you, like me, are a bit barmy about your barms and picky about your pickles, then Mia's is without doubt where you should be headed. This is a family affair, owned by Mia and run by her and her sister Danielle. These fellow curly girls know how to make a butty! They pack your slices full of deliciously fresh meats with all the salad accompaniments you could desire. Cream cakes, custards and for the healthy, fresh fruit are available beside the counter to tempt your palate. Mia's sells the least expensively priced jacket potatoes( £1.80 with fillings) I have ever seen and I defy you to find cheaper in Manchester! Any shop which makes scrambled egg on toast just how I like it, does it for me. If you prefer a hot bacon bap then Mia's will comply. This local sandwich shop may not have all the pomp and circumstance of city centre eateries- all expensive uniforms, huge hairnets and Ciabatta- but what it does have is excellent portions, scrummy sandwiches and service with a smile. My only complaint is that it does not open long enough because who knows what time I will get a craving for a good old sausage barm?

We were looking for somewhere to drink, pre-Drunken Butcher at Mish Mash down the road, and felt slightly out of depth when choosing. There was only 30 minutes until the event was due to start so we headed into The Elk; there's a nice outdoor seating area and small but long interior. It stretches further back than you'd initially think so don't worry if it seems a bit busy at first glance! There are a few beer options on draught, and a cider, with a couple of bottles in the fridge behind the bar. Not wanting anything too experimental, I followed the other half's lead and had a pint of Shindigger pale. It was good, refreshing after a bad day at work, and nice to be somewhere very relaxed. There were also dogs in the vicinity - two English bulldogs and a black lab, if anyone's wondering (I know you are..) - which added to my relaxation levels. The menu looked okay, though very non-committal on style, and affordable for the area. Perhaps somewhere to revisit but, with so many amazing options in Chorlton to explore, it's not top of the list.

I popped in here with my mum before a quick trip to Khawaja Brothers and Morrison's, and boy were we glad we did. Slabs of amazing homemade cake, incredible salads of puy lentils, Mediterranean veg, sundried tomatoes, big wedges of vegetarian lasagne, giant salmon fishcakes... the choices here are endless. And all served with a warm smile and with the option of kick-ass coffee and Teapigs tea. Yes, they had me at Teapigs tea. And amazing greetings cards, randomly. The decor is really relaxing, the outside space plentiful, and despite being on one of the busies roads in South Manchester and near a petrol station it manages to maintain an ambience of calm. We indulged in the banana and coconut cake and Victoria sponge, and both were mindblowing. The coconut icing on the banana cake should be sold by the spoonful and the Victoria sandwich had fresh strawberries in the buttercream topping and utterly delicious jam in the middle. Oh and the cake dough didn't even harbour a hint of dryness. The prices are reasonable too, and that wifi I mentioned didn't falter once - even while I was outside on the patio. This is one star worthy of handprints in cement. It can even wear sunglasses indoors if it wishes. Basically in my book, it's so cool that it can do no wrong.
