It might be worth noting that there is not a great main course selection for vegetarians (plenty of fish and meat) - although there are a few good starters. Overall this is a great pub, some outdoor seating for the warmer evenings and a great feel to the place inside. Recommended.

Big range of beers and I had a great glass of sauvignon blanc on this visit. We had two courses - the salt and pepper squid and cous cous, halloumi and avocado salad. Both were great. For main we had the classic fish and chips and a chicken sunday roast. Both plates were piled high with food. I heard that the roast was great - my fish and chips was a little disappointing. The fish was slightly under-cooked on the inside and burnt on the outside. I didn't feel strongly enough about it to complain though, and I will be going back to give it a second go.

Since December 2009, this pub has been under new management, not long to notice any major changes yet - but when I went last week, the beer I had definitely tasted better and the toilets were in a far better condition! I previously liked this pub, particularly because it was less poncey that the other boozers in Didsbury, I hope that general vibe of being an indie alternative will remain? They stock some very reasonably priced ale, bitter, mild and beers! along with a good range of spirits and wines. They have the odd open mic night and a quiz on a Tuesday.

The fact that it's a bare-boarded traditional pub only adds to its appeal. They offer six different real ales on tap; they're from national breweries but still decent and wholly drinkable. I'm sure I've seen BrewDog's Punk IPA on keg here, so it goes to show they attract a younger crowd too. They even have a nice selection of gins available if you're partial to a thirst-quenching G&T. The TV screens show live sports events such as football, rugby and golf. They're quiet though so it's not a sports pub by any stretch. Massive bonus points awarded for the free monkey nuts from a barrel in the corner of the bar! Why this isn't a standard offering in every boozer is beyond me.

However, you also have the option to order a la carte (separate menu). Food and drinks were nice. So often it's both, but with Albert's the decor complements some visits there, and others not so much. Is that as confusing as it looks to me right now? Let's clarify... Hands down, awesome food. Like, seriously. Full marks. We came here with parents on a Thursday night (the new Friday as all you cool cats know) and sat down to some delicious wine, a smattering of tomato bruschetta with a criminal amount of garlic (thank the lord I didn't have to speak to anyone on a professional level the next day) and some hearty yet classy dishes. The boys wanted steak, and steak they got. As my friend's dad always says, if the steak's cooked properly, you don't need a steak knife, and these melted away like butter. The seafood menu was like a pick n' mix of fruits de la mer, and this is what the female contingent of the party opted for. My friend's mum went for the fillet of seabass served with a choice of vegetables, and I asked about the fish stew and the Thai monkfish curry. The kind waitress recommended the stew and I was so glad she did. Mussels in their shells, chunks of potato, a tomato sauce and huge hunks of fish had me almost too full to the brim for pudding, where we all decided we'd fight over a single pannetone bread and butter pudding. Rich, fruity and dense, the podded vanilla custard was the perfect partner. After reading Bex T's review I must concur wholeheartedly - Albert's is sleek and chic. The uber-modern clean blue lines would indeed feel at odds with a cosy Sunday roast dinner, although I do hear their roasts are legendary. It shan't put me off, I'll be back to try it. I'll just be sure to don my Sunday best when I do!

However, I haven't visited this place for years, and was looking forward to going on a Saturday for a mates birthdays. There were 16 of us on a Saturday afternoon, starting here for food and drink before heading to a few other places in Didsbury. It's actually a really nice place - the interior is lovely and location spot on. It often gets scrutinised for being a bit pretentious with the crowd it attracts, but I have to say I prefer the crowd of didsbury locals - this place is always filled with a nice crowd and attracts no trouble. You can sit outside under the heated area, inside at the main bar, or in the restaurant/dining bit. Each area is always busy, with a bustling atmosphere and traditional decor. I ordered the Butternut Squash Risotto for my dinner which was the wrong choice - I should have gone for the burgers which a lot of my friends went for, and they looked amazing. The burgers came with a nice looking ciabatta bun, and were fully stacked with meat, salad and cheese. My risotto was very standard., The butternut squash was a little bit hard, and I didn't really feel full or satisfied after it. At least I had buckets of sweet potato fries to pick at from everyone elses order afterwards, which were home cooked and delicious! Quite a pricey place to come for lunch and a drink if you expect it to be a typical 'pub/bar' type place. But it is west didsbury after all. I'll be back to give the menu a second chance with a competely different order!
