I previously liked this pub, particularly because it was less poncey that the other boozers in Didsbury, I hope that general vibe of being an indie alternative will remain? They stock some very reasonably priced ale, bitter, mild and beers! along with a good range of spirits and wines. They have the odd open mic night and a quiz on a Tuesday.

The bar staff (and the locals!) tend to be a friendly bunch - particularly if they've got a few drinks down them. The landlord also appears to be rather fond of a game of his own devising called "Sticky". Lord knows how the rules work, but it appears to involve a 2p coin and some sellotape. In terms of food, it's pretty standard pub fare, although they do a cracking Sunday Lunch, complete with homemade Yorkshire puddings and gravy. Be sure to try the Sam Smith's organic cherry beer whilst you're there as well - slightly tart and deceptively delicious, it's one of the numerous hidden charms of the Sun in September.

Or rather, fraternal twins. Yes, this is a bar of two halves, two very different halves, and they could well be two separate establishments to the naked eye. Last night when a group of us came for a drink here, we realised that these halves seem to split opinion... the locals prefer one, the students the other. One half is a little colder and more austere, with on-screen sports and ramshackle tables. Oh! I just felt like Phoebe from Friends with her Central Park/Central Perk revelation. This is where the older crowd tends to gather with pints. The other half is warmer and home to some thumping beats and lends itself well to student nights out. In the middle of all of this is a bar, with some cheap house ales and spirits, but overall what you'd find at most bars - big brand drinks. No imported unusual bits and bobs, but hey, if it sells Crabbie's it's fine by me. This place has something of a spooky effect upon its clientele. What starts as a social drink can turn into a spontaneous belly-laugh of a tipsy night out (no wonder it's so popular with students!)... we're not sure how this happens, but the round of Jagermeisters spoke for itself. I ordered the Butternut Squash Risotto for my dinner which was the wrong choice - I should have gone for the burgers which a lot of my friends went for, and they looked amazing. The burgers came with a nice looking ciabatta bun, and were fully stacked with meat, salad and cheese. My risotto was very standard., The butternut squash was a little bit hard, and I didn't really feel full or satisfied after it. At least I had buckets of sweet potato fries to pick at from everyone elses order afterwards, which were home cooked and delicious! Quite a pricey place to come for lunch and a drink if you expect it to be a typical 'pub/bar' type place. But it is west didsbury after all.
