On a sunny day you can head along to the Red Lion and sit out in the beer garden over lunch with a…read morecouple of pints. A couple of old guys will be playing bowls on the extensive bowling green, and they'll be staff from Christie's having a well earned break! The food menu is fairly broad, and about what you'd expect for typical pub food. Good food, at a not-too-pricey level. You could actually make everyday Sunday, and have a roast carvery if you wanted to! If you love roast potatoes (as I do) then this is the best way to make sure you get enough :) Today I couldn't resist the lite bite that they'd called pie! Served with chips still, it was a fairly normal sized pie, and just the job. (Imagine how big the normal pie is? :O ) I ate with someone who had nachos for one, and as the portion size was fairly big I got to steal a few as well. Really is nice with all this great we're having to sit out in the sun at lunch, and have a proper break. I'm happy that I only live a couple of minutes away. Was also happy that when my phone got to boiling temperature there was umbrellas to sit under. I'm not a football fan, so it's great to along out of the season for me. In season, in the evening I would expect that most evenings there's football. So I tend not to go as much then. If you're a fan then it'll be a treat for you. In summary. Traditional pub. Great in the sun.

I opted for the a chicken burger with fries whilst my mum went for mini fish and chips which looked lovely. My burger was a buttermilk chicken burger with thai mayo and monetary jack cheese along with the usual burger salad. Pure fitness!! Lots of cheese just how I like it. Enjoyable visit all round. As its the Euros the pub is temporarily called the three lions lol

If one of those cool, quirky bars in the Northern Quarter and a down-to-earth, tatty geek of a…read morestudent bar on Oxford Road were to have their eyes meet across a crowded dancefloor, The Ram & Shackle would be the resultant one-night-stand lovechild. Or rather, fraternal twins. Yes, this is a bar of two halves, two very different halves, and they could well be two separate establishments to the naked eye. Last night when a group of us came for a drink here, we realised that these halves seem to split opinion... the locals prefer one, the students the other. One half is a little colder and more austere, with on-screen sports and ramshackle tables. Oh! I just felt like Phoebe from Friends with her Central Park/Central Perk revelation. This is where the older crowd tends to gather with pints. The other half is warmer and home to some thumping beats and lends itself well to student nights out. In the middle of all of this is a bar, with some cheap house ales and spirits, but overall what you'd find at most bars - big brand drinks. No imported unusual bits and bobs, but hey, if it sells Crabbie's it's fine by me. This place has something of a spooky effect upon its clientele. What starts as a social drink can turn into a spontaneous belly-laugh of a tipsy night out (no wonder it's so popular with students!)... we're not sure how this happens, but the round of Jagermeisters spoke for itself. Hey, medicinal purposes you understand. Down the road from Indigo, Solomon's and Fuel and within staggering distance of my new apartment, I can easily see a few more visits happening.

We arrived on a gloomy, rainy Tuesday, so sitting outside wasn't really an option but the inside is lovely. It's decorated in a modern country pub style with plenty of plaid and leather and importantly has plenty of tables with comfy chairs. The staff are very friendly and even go out of their way to check dietary stuff with the chef. They have an impressively extensive pub grub menu. Our group of 8 all ordered individually at the bar at different times (within the space of 10 minutes) but all our food arrived at our table within 20-30 minutes of ordering, hot and together. I was kinda impressed they took this into consideration. My burger was deliciously juicy and well seasoned, the chips were thick cut, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside as well as being too hot to handle! Yum! They had the usual condiments, ketchup, mayo vinegar etc, which you go to collect from a centralized table. If you park in their car park it'll set you back £2 for 3 hours but if you order food at the pub and present part of your ticket then they'll reimburse you. Alternatively there's free street parking near enough. I can't wait to come back on a sunnier day to enjoy their outdoor area.

A nice selection of food and drink for you lunch but £6.49 for a cup of tea and a mini dessert !read more

Don't forget that the Happy hour lasts from 17:00 until closing on Mondays and there is an excellent quiz that is run from 21:00 on Mondays too - nothing too serious but reasonable 1st prize of a gallon of beer and 2nd and 3rd prizes of a bottle of wine. Tuesday through Friday Happy hour lasts from 17:00 up until 20:00 Often has live music on a Friday or Saturday, with a DJ occasionally playing too on Fridays.

The food here isn't half bad, and on Sundays they do a heartwarming roast. They often show the latest sports on their big screens, but if that's not your thing then there's always pool. What I like most about this pub though, is it seems to be unaffected by Didsbury's prices and occasional pretense. It's cheap, cheerful and down to earth.
