I previously liked this pub, particularly because it was less poncey that the other boozers in Didsbury, I hope that general vibe of being an indie alternative will remain? They stock some very reasonably priced ale, bitter, mild and beers! along with a good range of spirits and wines. They have the odd open mic night and a quiz on a Tuesday.

The TV screens show live sports events such as football, rugby and golf. They're quiet though so it's not a sports pub by any stretch. Massive bonus points awarded for the free monkey nuts from a barrel in the corner of the bar! Why this isn't a standard offering in every boozer is beyond me.

Was also happy that when my phone got to boiling temperature there was umbrellas to sit under. I'm not a football fan, so it's great to along out of the season for me. Or rather, fraternal twins. Yes, this is a bar of two halves, two very different halves, and they could well be two separate establishments to the naked eye. Last night when a group of us came for a drink here, we realised that these halves seem to split opinion... the locals prefer one, the students the other. One half is a little colder and more austere, with on-screen sports and ramshackle tables. Oh! I just felt like Phoebe from Friends with her Central Park/Central Perk revelation. This is where the older crowd tends to gather with pints. The other half is warmer and home to some thumping beats and lends itself well to student nights out. In the middle of all of this is a bar, with some cheap house ales and spirits, but overall what you'd find at most bars - big brand drinks. No imported unusual bits and bobs, but hey, if it sells Crabbie's it's fine by me. This place has something of a spooky effect upon its clientele. What starts as a social drink can turn into a spontaneous belly-laugh of a tipsy night out (no wonder it's so popular with students!)... we're not sure how this happens, but the round of Jagermeisters spoke for itself. You can sit outside under the heated area, inside at the main bar, or in the restaurant/dining bit. Each area is always busy, with a bustling atmosphere and traditional decor. I ordered the Butternut Squash Risotto for my dinner which was the wrong choice - I should have gone for the burgers which a lot of my friends went for, and they looked amazing. The burgers came with a nice looking ciabatta bun, and were fully stacked with meat, salad and cheese. My risotto was very standard., The butternut squash was a little bit hard, and I didn't really feel full or satisfied after it. At least I had buckets of sweet potato fries to pick at from everyone elses order afterwards, which were home cooked and delicious! Quite a pricey place to come for lunch and a drink if you expect it to be a typical 'pub/bar' type place. But it is west didsbury after all. For main we had the classic fish and chips and a chicken sunday roast. Both plates were piled high with food. I heard that the roast was great - my fish and chips was a little disappointing. The fish was slightly under-cooked on the inside and burnt on the outside. I didn't feel strongly enough about it to complain though, and I will be going back to give it a second go.

However, this was too much. Especially with the place being so small.
