The interior is comfortably furnished with a mixture of chairs and sofas to give a relaxed atmosphere. If you were looking for a traditional country pub though it's probably more on the stylish gastro end of the spectrum. That said, the food we had from starters to desserts was superb. Our group, which included a baby and a toddler, were well taken care of and we had a large table tucked away from the main dining area where we could spread out a bit. You can't travel light with young 'uns! Sunday roasts and British dishes head the menu, though the selection for all courses was pretty extensive - I opted for their oak-smoked chicken liver pâté followed by the Sunday roast platter (roast beef, roast turkey and loin of pork) and then sticky toffee and apple pudding (because dessert). Their bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and bottles which was good to see. As a designated driver though, I was on the blackcurrant and lemonade! Service was attentive throughout and we were never made to feel rushed at any point. A super venue for a lazy Sunday lunch - will definitely return.

If you are still reading then here is the rest of the review: The Plough and Flail is next to a really cute alpaca farm!!!! So you can walk across the road and stare at the alpacas doing their thang (chewing grass). It is a really cute little cottagey style building, with plenty of outdoor seating and lots of grassy verges to sit on. It also has a pretty robust looking childrens play area which I stared at longingly as I drank my Becks Vier. (not because i have an unhealthy interest in children, but because I wanted a go on the swings and possibly slide). The Menu is pretty meat centric, sausage and mash, steaks burgers etc and it has a fish specials board which has just about every fishy dish you could ever want. There is even a kids menu and the place seemed really child friendly. I sat outside and the smell of the food was so enticing I wandered inside to sit on one of the big sofas which were very comfortable. It is quite opulent inside while maintaining a rustic homey feel. I have it on good authority (my mum) that the food is EXCELLENT. So try it and tell 'em my mum sent you.

This was my only choice and it overall it worked. On the way down a small hill the Bulls Head is situated, with its substantial charming beer gardens, on the left side. The atmosphere was quite welcoming from each staff member I encountered. The barrooms are decidedly aged with great coziness and low ceilings with exposed timbers etc. Overall a very pleasing atmosphere. Several local cask beers are available to be pulled. I sampled 2 neither of which appealed to my IPA preference of style. The menu has some very tasty sounding options and all I saw served were extremely pleasing to the eye. Sadly I feel the kitchens quest for attractiveness in plating does not translate to the flavours on the plate. My lamb rump was overly rare and a little chewy. In talking to a very pleasant local couple who were also dining, they told me that the food here is always good pub fare. In other words it does the trick but you really aren't going to be excited. As an added bonus horses and riders are welcomed.

The pub itself is cosy and welcoming, full of character and very friendly, warm staff. Many little nooks where you can enjoy your meal and conversation with low level music in the background. It was a cold day so we were glad tat there were (many gas) open hearths around. It is located right next door to a ancient but very well tended church (St. Ostwald's). We decided to go with lunches from the Christmas offerings. We both enjoyed our (different) 3 courses (see the pics!). I have recalibrated my standards and so if I can only give Raphael in Bath 5 stars then it is going to be VERY tough for me to give 5 stars to anywhere else! We enjoyed the whole experience at the Bells of Peover so much that I give the cuisine a solid 4 stars but boost the overall score to 5 stars based on the experience, the charm and the ambiences. We chose the pub sharing platter to start between 4.5 of us (our 2 year old daughter has a great appetite...) which consisted of some great fresh pork pies, sausages, scratchings, bread etc - and then followed this with some tasty roasts (mixed pork and beef really hit the spot) - with all the trimmings - lovely veg and of course those ace Yorkshires (check out my pics) Dessert was tasty with a great selection - Eton Mess and Choc Brownie were awesome. We weren't drinking for various reasons but they did have a fairly decent selection of traditional ales and wines. The soft drink selection was great too - Fentimans all round for us. A lovely country inn, great food, drinks and surroundings - can't wait to go back!
