Went two weeks in a row a month or so ago, on the second week we were confronted by the landlord because I brought in a packet of crisps from the Co-Op around the corner, and told not to do it again or we'd be kicked out. I have to say the entire attitude of the landlord was quite despicable. If he had spoke politely and that is was their policy not to allow customers to bring in any food, we would have just said 'ok' and that would have been that. Instead, he walked up looking at us like we were at the bottom of his shoe, told that we were ignorant, and if we had a problem with anything 'not to come again'. Which counteracts the customers right to complain if something isn't right, according to the landlord we either liked it or we left.
We were then told by the guy behind the bar on the way out that he had warned us three times about the crisps, even though he had only mentioned it once when he came over. This was a clear sign that they thought they could get a dig in and prove their point by telling people what to do what they wanted, but we weren't the type to get pushed around by an overweight landlord and a twig behind the counter. We gave the guy behind the bar an earful before he tried to pull away, as we were both ready to put him on the deck. The landlord was yapping away about why people shouldn't bring in their own crisps, at which point we told he was talking a load of crap and should shove his crisps where, most likely, they belong.
I have to say I've been polite and happy to chat to the bar staff and landlords in all the pubs I've been to, and never had many problems, but if I see the landlord to this pub again he better hope he has an army of ten behind him. There's no way, no matter if you own the pub or just work there, you think you can fabricate lies and talk to people like their crap just because you own the place.
