The parking is ok; it's a medium sized car park but the uneven ground can be a pain with prams. It is an old building so it can be quite difficult if you are trying to manoeuvre a wheelchair.

Last night, we stopped there for a few drinks (only a half for me as the driver!) and were absolutely stunned. The selection of real ales is impressive and very well-kept and served. The landlord is extremely welcoming, pleasant and knowledgeable, but the pub itself.. Well, to say it is amazing is to do the landlord an injustice. As can be seen by the photos, the pub has an incredible amount of memorabilia; seemingly, most from the war years (no, I won't specify which wars!) but also an eclectic collection of anything that interests anybody. There are musical instruments throughout the rooms, a plethora of cameras of all eras, uniforms from forces, services and old schoolsI could go on all day. We all decided that it would take a full day just to sample the excellent drinks and to look around, then were told that they serve good food during the day as well. If this pub was closer to civilisation, it would be crowded out at all times.

Yes stood right next to our table socialising and talking loudly. As this was going on there kids were climbing in the seats behind us and running about...this was about 8pm by the way so you would expect children to be elsewhere by then. We then proceeded to sit there for about 20 minutes while nobody served us. Eventually somebody came over and decided to serve the table next to us first??? She then walked off without acknowledging us one but. We then got her attention and she disappeared again for another 10 minutes. She then came back without drink and old u that food would be about 1 hour!!! 1 hour...1 hour there were about 4 people eating in total and most people on were all in the pub area. That was it for us and we left after this. The place probably does do really nice food but my advice would be to avoid going on a Friday or Saturday night and maybe just go there for lunch.

It's all modern now with flat screen TV's on the walls and an Italian restaurant on the side. It was very busy when we went in 6.10pm on Saturday. Once you have your first drink and sit down around a table or in one of the comfortable sofas you will be able to order more drinks when the staff come to take the empty glasses way. Saves you going back to the bar. Not sure what you could call expensive but I bottle of Bulmers cider was £3.50. All in all it was a nice place to visit.

It is cheap and cheerful on the food front, burgers, steaks, surf 'n turf etc. as well as regular pub favourites such as steak pie, lasagne and curry. I chose a cheeseburger which came with fries. It was OK, it had a flame grilled taste but it had the texture of a cheap burger really. It was perfectly edible though and I polished the lot off :-) Service was smashing, efficient and friendly from both the bar staff and the waiting staff and the pub was very busy at the time as Haydock Park races were holding an evening meeting and people were stopping off for a drink en route. Only two cask beers were on, Black Sheep and Golden Hen, I had the Black Sheep which was fine and dandy. A pleasant enough pub really, I can't say I'd go out of my way to seek out Flaming Grill pubs in the future but I wouldn't go out of my way to avoid them either.
