I have driven past this pub so many times as it is almost the only thing on a road through farmland between Burtonwood and Warrington. Last night, we stopped there for a few drinks (only a half for me as the driver!) and were absolutely stunned.
The selection of real ales is impressive and very well-kept and served. The landlord is extremely welcoming, pleasant and knowledgeable, but the pub itself.. Well, to say it is amazing is to do the landlord an injustice.
As can be seen by the photos, the pub has an incredible amount of memorabilia; seemingly, most from the war years (no, I won't specify which wars!) but also an eclectic collection of anything that interests anybody. There are musical instruments throughout the rooms, a plethora of cameras of all eras, uniforms from forces, services and old schoolsI could go on all day. We all decided that it would take a full day just to sample the excellent drinks and to look around, then were told that they serve good food during the day as well.
If this pub was closer to civilisation, it would be crowded out at all times. read more
