May 2014
Sad to report that the people who have made this a popular pub again have experienced the same problems as everyone else with the Pubco responsible and are leaving at the end of this month.
November 2012:
My wife and eldest son attended the quiz night last night (Wednesday I was on shift at work). The new owners have extensively redecorated inside but, apparently, have filled every inch of every surface with fake antiques. Seems a pity to tart up a 17th Century pub, but must be to some tastes. The five handpumps are now serving two real ales only these being Hobgoblin and Holt's Bitter last night kept and served competently, but 40p a pint more than pubs on the same street and nothing like the choices.
They do not have a menu as yet but inform customers what is on that day on the blackboard so also limited.
The same people are now in charge of here and the Marquis of Granby. May 2011:
Sorry to announce but, as from Friday, 20th May, we will no longer be running the Ring O' Bells. Despite turning this pub into the centre of the local community even though we are the most expensive in the area, the pubco refuse to make our rent reasonable o we have to give up rather than go bankrupt.
I shall continue to monitor the pub and hope to come in as a customer, but I don't think future landlords will keep the essential characterstill, who knows? February 2009 Update:
It has been pointed out that no-one knows when we serve meals!
Monday to Saturday inclusive meals are served between 12 noon and 2pm, then 6pm until 9pm. Last orders are taken half an hour before end of serving.
Sundays, including Sunday Roast lunch, servings are from 12 noon until 7pm continuous. December 17th 2008 update; log fire is up and burning.
Please see new uploaded photos from tonight, especially guest beers board. it's not often anyone can boast Courage Directors as their weakest real ale! As from November, 2008 now five guest real ales at any one time and we're hoping to get a chimney sweep in soon so we can light the real fire in the dining area without killing off all the customers! A genuine 17th century, listed pub with a real community feel to it. Serves food during afternoons and part of the evenings good, basic food with some interesting specials.
All the usual beers plus three constantly changing guest real ales, usually bitters.
New management early in 2007 has ensured redecoration didn't change the pub's character. I must confess here to being part of the new management, but this was a favourite pub from years back.
Accoustic sessions are held every Sunday night and whenever there is a good reason! St Patrick's, St George's, St David's and St Andrew's and May Day so far.oh, and celebrating a Monday once!
We have also had a number of enquiries from Ghosthunter groups and we're looking into this due to our location. Since this, have had vigils from the northwest Paranormal Society, who cleared all unusual activity for the next 1 months!
The pub is becoming well-known in the area as a real pub, where customers meet to talk to each other and to the landlady and landlord (and all the family). Anyone who sings or plays an instrument is especialy welcome there is a pianoforte available for anyone who can playand other instruments on request! read more
