Working nearby and being a fan of beer, I obviously had a moral obligation to check this place out. Walking in, the first thing you notice is that this place is BIG. Truly, there's a lot of space and I didn't even check out the upstairs seating area. When a booth finally opened up, my boyfriend and I were almost hesitant to take it since it was enormous and it was just the two of us. The modern, slick decor is a far cry from the cozy pub atmosphere that you find easily elsewhere in the city - which is a good thing, variety being the spice of life and all. However, I could see this place feeling a bit cold when it's not teeming with people which may not appeal to fans of more traditional pubs. There was a really good selection of beer on tap - Belgium (yay), Germany, France, US, and England were all proudly represented during my visit and it changes all the time (weekly I believe). The menu boasted a rather extensive range of bottled beers as well and takes a while to fully peruse. The prices are fair - probably better than fair given the area and range/quality of beers on offer. For those who are not fans of beer (you poor souls!) there is a range of other drinks available as well. I don't think this place will become my new haunt (the ambiance just lacked the coziness I like during my beer tasting adventures) but I will definitely end up returning to see what's on tap. Definitely one of the best places to try new beers in the city and I'll probaby end up checking out their shop on Tib Street as well!

Cafe Beermoth have a great thing going. The only decent bar in this geographical area, they already appear to have a loyal following made up of devout beer lovers, local workers and shoppers wanting to escape the horror of Market Street at the weekend. It's bloody huge inside, with a staircase at one end leading to some additional seating upstairs. There's a good combination of dark and light decor, with mostly light wood furniture but dark walls, meaning it should slip perfectly between seasons, with no one balking at the thought of coming here in the sunnier months (which are hard to predict in our fair city!) We came during the first week on a Sunday and it was well attended - most of the seating was taken but we experienced no wait at the bar. The staff were sympathetic to my beer knowledge, or lack thereof, and allowed me a few samples. My half ended up costing more than the rest of the groups pints, but it was worth it in my opinion! Alongside beer they serve spirits, wine and soft drinks, plus hot drinks in the morning. The menu is vast so don't be pressured into ordering something straight away, just take a seat and decide. Cafe Beermoth isn't the kind of place to feel rushed, I can certainly see myself having a few heavy weekends and lighter work meetings here.

No kerb appeal as yet, but looks awesome inside!

This hotly anticipated 'beer cafe', from the owners of Beermoth in the NQ, discreetly opened its doors to the public at the weekend - a much-needed, decent drinking spot in this part of town. The space is cavernous, but still feels warm thanks to the darker colours and wood throughout. The designers have certainly impressed with a slick, yet practical interior. To me it's half-way between the NQ and Spinningfields in design (in a very good way). A gorgeous set of booths, separated again by stained carpentry, stretches across the front, with large windows where you can look out at passers-by. There's lots of alternative seating, but try and bag a booth if you can. The bar itself is large, and behind it is another large expanse of glazing where you can see through to the 'beer cellar' which is a great feature of the place. Fellow beer geeks will go nuts here. The table-top menus list copious bottled beers (mostly Belgian and American) with some priced at up to £40, so they're also catering for seekers of high quality and rarity. Their seven hand pumps and ten keg beer lines will be rotated frequently, with the choices on cards above the bar. They'll be open from 8am for hot drinks which will also be available for take away, before serving alcohol from noon. A beer destination in its own right; they're different and going to do very well here. Tip: Though their address is Spring Gardens, the entrance is on Brown Street.

New on the Manchester bar scene. Not even a week old. 'Hidden' next to the Spring Gardens Post Office. I feel I have to point out as my mate from Leeds got lost the address says Spring Gardens but the bars entrance is actually found on Brown St. A great large cavern of a room, softened in feel by wooden frame walls between the booths which line the Brown St side windows. After a walk through the torrential downpours this last Saturday it was very pleasurable to sit in a booth and watch the maddening crowd of Christmas shoppers walk past the gigantic street facing windows in various states of dampness, whilst sitting happily drinking some very good beer. There are some traditional elements to the bar done out in a modern twist, contemporary brass fittings and splash back on the taps and hanging metal frames covered in hops. The beer selection was great, though I did notice a slight lack of local beers considering we have 40+ breweries in proximity to Manchester and they have 17 taps, 10 keg and 7 cask lines. Fantastic mix though, from fresh new world pales, some tarts sours, through to belgians, black IPA, porter and stout. A very good beer exploration bar which is clearly what the guys from Beermoth (outstanding bottle shop in NQ) were hoping for. Perhaps my favourite part of the bar, being a bit of a beer geek is the windows behind which show off the large cellar done out entirely in white tile. There is an extensive bottle list, some may balk at a few of the prices though. They also serve teas and coffees with NQ attention to detail. I didn't notice any bar snacks on the menu or behind the bar, hopefully these will appear because it's always nice to have some snacks about even if only in the nuts and crisps category. But with the addition of coffee/tea hopefully this might grow to pastries, sandwiches and charcuterie which would certainly be in line with the European beer cafe vibe they are going for.

Cafe Beermoth is an excellent addition to Manchester. Having frequented Beermoth in the NQ on many occasion I always thought it would be well received if they were to open a bar, and it seems I was right. Situated down the back of Market Street, near the Post Office, this is a strange location for such a craft ale establishment but it works very well. A central location close to many businesses and the shopping district, just a little bit out of the way for the usual NQ hipster. On the night I visited I was astounded by the excellent array of beers on tap - Neil C. was over the moon. It is also very, very hipster. Beanie hats and beards galore, although that didn't put me off. It's a great bar with an excellent atmosphere. Fab.

I've only been here once when I had been drinking all day so this might not be the most thorough review. However, from memory there was a large selection of beers on offer, all of which weren't too badly priced and what I tried was pretty decent. We had a cheese board to share between 3 of us, which cost about £8 and made me feel a fair bit better after the whole day drinking. The bar itself inside was pretty nice and I feel definitely return at some point when I'm feeling more up for it.

Its difficult to rate Café Beermoth anything other than 5 stars. Just a few paces away from the frenzied activity of Market Street is this haven of beer. There are menus listing literally hundreds of bottled beers and a few wines. However, their speciality has got to be the draught ales of which there are at least 20 or so on offer. The friendly bar staff are happy to discuss options, and make recommendations and advise if like me, you're a little bewildered with too much choice. Beer is available in One third, Two thirds or full pint glasses. Having been here twice in the last week, the ambience can feel a little different depending on how busy it is. On a quiet Monday evening, it has quite a chilled feel, whereas on a busy Saturday evening it can be quite noisy. Comfortable seating is slightly limited. The cosy booths by the front windows are definitely the most popular seats and always seem to be the first to be taken. On my second visit, I sat in the small upstairs area, on an old church pew. Food options don't look too extensive, but the focus here is definitely on the beer!

Bit late to the party on this one, though not approximately a year late as usual so I'd say I'm doing alright! Rich C, Sam H and I popped here after the recent GRUB Food Fair at Runaway Brewery for a nightcap. I love the space - so often beer-oriented places are more on the cosy and sometimes poky end of the spectrum, so it's great to have lots of clean open space. The best selection is, of course, awesome. It's priced as you would expect - some fairly cheap, many very reasonable, and some very expensive. I had half a Magic Rock Salty Kiss, and a half of a delicious saison that I've forgotten the name of. We also shared a cheeseboard which was very good and good value at around £8 if memory serves. You don't get a choice, just a selection of a soft, a blue and a vintage. This comes with loads of accompaniments including chutney, figs, caperberries, and mixed pickle which is so very uncool but so very awesome. There's no bread but lots of crackers. They do serve sandwiches so it might be possible to ask for it to come with bread. My only real complaint was the music. It was loud and it was very dancey/club type music. Although it was a Saturday night when I visited I was expecting a different vibe to other bars so some more mellow or at least quieter music would have been welcome.

I took up residence in the dimly lit back area, where the cheerful waitstaff promptly took my order of a blood orange hot chocolate made with almond milk (!) The drink came out frothy and light, with a cloud of chocolate-dusted milk foam atop subtle, smooth chocolate. No bitter or artificial aftertaste. While bopping along to the background music and working on my laptop, I was informed that Leaf would close early at 19h instead of 20h, so I seized the opportunity to order dinner as well: the jerk lamb rump, and an order of jasmine pearl tea. The waiter helped me verify that the lamb was free of dairy, and soon I was chowing down on succulent roast lamb and garlicky roast beans. The mango jam was a perfect accompaniment to the meat, but I found the coconut/coriander rice too mushy to my taste. It helped me to imagine them as mashed potatoes instead, haha. The tea was sensuously fragrant, and I welcomed the scented fog clouding my glasses. I wish I could have stayed there longer, but I might return for brunch or tea - Leaf is truly a serene, wonderful establishment.

I visited this coffee shop recently and left feeling pretty uncomfortable with how I was treated. From the moment I ordered, the staff came across as dismissive and noticeably colder toward me compared to other customers around me. There were a few interactions that felt unnecessarily sharp, and it gave the impression that I wasn't particularly welcome there. I want to be fair, but as a straight customer, the difference in tone and attitude didn't go unnoticed. Whether intentional or not, it made the experience feel exclusionary rather than inclusive. It's a shame because the space itself has a lot of personality, but the service made it hard to enjoy. I'd hope they work on creating a more welcoming environment for everyone.

Whether it was because the area of town is a bit random, the building a bit unattractive and me thinking it was more of a bookshop - something just seemed to be putting me off. But today in my meeting with Matt F we decided to give it a go and what a great decision it was! First off this place is huge and a labyrinth once inside - one half hipster bookshop, the other half cool cafe with a real nod to health (check out the menu on my pics). A really lovely environment with working fountain and a variety of places to sit. The food was excellent too - my breakfast pancakes were probably the best I've had in Manchester so far which is saying something.
