After a long day of travel, being in the car, having crazy allergies and finally making it to the finger lakes area, we were in desperate need of some comfort food. Our friend had been talking about getting Thai food even before arriving there, so we knew instantly where we needed to go: The Elephant in Geneva! We came a bit early for dinner, probably at around 6pm (way earlier than my normal 8/9pm dinner time) but it was perfect for our party fo 6. They had a really nice ambiance and I really loved the screens all around the restaurant that made you feel like you were looking into an aquarium, super cool and cozy. The staff and servers here were amazing! So hospitable, kind and got our orders in so quick. When the portions came out we were shocked at how large the plates were. For me and my hubby, our portions were JUST right and we definitely didn't need to share since we were starving. A lot of our friends did end up taking some of the food home since it was a lot. I ordered the green curry and it was so delicious. My only "complain" would be that I wish the curry was a bit hotter (temperature wise) since it felt a bit on the lukewarmy side. Other than that, it was perfect and just what we needed. We had vegetarians and gluten free in our group so it was the perfect spot for everyone to find something they could eat. When we first got into the restaurant, we were sat down and given menus. Our server came by with ice water in a pitcher and we helped ourselves! As we were looking at the menu, she came up to us and asked if it was our first time here and she let us know what the most popular/delicious items on the menu were. Pad Thai and pad see ew. Thai classics. So, of course, I ordered the pad thai with shrimp and my friend ordered the pad see ew with beef. The beef was charred and it was coated with the caramelized sauce and it was a delicious. It complimented to savory noodles. The broccoli that it came with also soaked up the sauce and it made for an explosively flavorful bite! My only qualm about the pad see ew was that the beef could be more tender! The shrimp for the pad thai was cooked perfectly and they were plump and juicy! I enjoyed the sweetness of the noodle dish paired with the savory nuttiness of the crushed peanuts and the fresh squeeze of lime! I also enjoyed the fresh veggies that they added on the plate: a slice of cucumber, tomato, and thinly julienned cabbage. It was a perfect palate cleanser for both dishes! We went to Elephant for dinner. The ambiance there is great for a casual but intimate experience. We had a bottle of their Riesling and for food we had the appetizer featuring three different foods. For entree, I had their seafood dish and it was quite lackluster. Similarly to the entree, the crab wontons didn't have any lobster/crab. The spring rolls were also quite standard. *Sigh....closed-itis strikes again in Geneva. Went to Elephant a few weeks ago with friends. Food was hot and flavorful. Better than I recalled from 2019. The lighting was still far too dark for a bunch of people in their 50s, but we managed. Was planning for lunch with friends and wanted to stop in at The Elephant this week. On a whim I called to make sure they were open during their usual hours, and to make a reservation. Person who answered said 'No. We will be closed Mon, Tues, Wednesday'. Me: It doesn't mention that on your website. She: We will put a sign on the door. Me: That doesn't help anyone. Putting a closed sign on your door instead of on your website just leaves groups of people standing around in the parking lot trying to figure out where to go for lunch with limited time already wasted. Oddly, this happened at this same location when it was The Leaf. It happened a LOT. Come on folks. The first tenet of a successful business is "Be Open". read more

Tucked away in the basement of the Chamber of Commerce, was this amazing restaurant! Clean, good food and nice staff.

I pulled in about 5:30 and there were no cars in the parking lot or people in the restaurant. I spoke to the server about spice levels and explained that I normally stick to a 3 and find it typically is not spicy enough. She told me the level 3 runs a little warm. This is what I like so I opted for green chili curry with rice and the combo protein which was chicken, beef and shrimp. The spice was perfect to my liking, I could take the individual flavor of all the ingredients but still encourage a good intake of water. There was an ample enough serving of rice to soak up every drop of that great curry. About 5 tables were seated and served while I was there and the server did a good job of checking on all the tables. She seemed to be by her self but no one got left out. The seating was a bit dated, I moved to a different booth when a couple sat behind me as the back of the booth resembled a rocking chair each time someone moved. The server seemed to know about it as she moved me to a perfect spot. I do think it made the man behind me uncomfortable as he was a larger guy and noticed that I moved. I am not sure if people complaining about dishes being too spicy, is ruining it for the real Thai food lovers but the spice levels have completely disappeared in the food. The Elephant Geneva was delicious. The only thing we regret is not coming hungrier. Due to reasons unimportant to the review, we only ordered entrees and they were fantastic. What made them fantastic you ask? The flavors, they popped so well on the Drunken Noodles and the coconut curry. The ingredients were cooked to perfection, The tofu, chicken and veggies were all nailed. Our server was an absolute delight and the atmosphere was extremely chill. So disappointed after being to Thai Elephant in Watkins Glen and always having a 5 star experience. Food was lacking flavor (super odd for Thai food), green curry was very watery and the meat in both the drunken noodles and green curry (beef and chicken) were pretty tough. I went here with a friend while on a college road-trip to HWS. We ordered the spring rolls to share and they were amazing! The sauce was really good. I had the Pineapple fried rice. The serving size was huge! I didn't think I'd be able to eat the whole thing, but I did. The shrimp were very flavorful. The only thing I didn't like was that the tails were still on them. It's hard to get them out when they are so slippery. At least cut them open before serving so they are easy to get out of the shell with a fork and knife. My friend had Pad See Aew which is one of her favorites. She loved it! If my kid ends up going to HWS, this will be a go to restaurant. read more

Coming to The Elephant was a fantastic experience! We ordered calamari, won ton soup, pad thai, thai dumplings, and finished it off with fried ice cream and it was all very delicious. Our favorites were definitely the pad thai, and fried ice cream. The service was good & the staff was friendly. The inside was very well designed, peaceful, and provided a cool ambiance. We had Pad Thai with Beef and Drunken Noodles with Mock Duck. Pad Thai was authentic and well done. The beef, however, was over cooked and tough to chew. the mock duck was exceptional however the dish lacked in noodles. (strange that there were very few noodles) The service was good but a little slow and inconsistent because they were so busy with only one waitress. also there was an odd smell in the place (scented candles I think) but the food smells and the scented candle mixed together smelled a bit like "wet dog". the ambience was dominated by 6 TV's glowing a video of a "yule log". overall it was good, but the service was spotty. The ambiance was weird, the smell was off-putting, the lack of noodles in a drunken noodles made no sense and the beef was just short of leather....not good enough for me to return to. read more

I've eaten here once before years ago and though I don't have much experience with Thai food, I thought my dish was excellent! My fiancée and I stopped here after checking out some wineries because we were craving something spicy and this place definitely delivered. We started off with the sampler appetizer which included 2 spring rolls, 2 crab rangoon, and 2 chicken satays. The spring rolls and the rangoon were pretty standard, but good. The chicken satay was delicious and when you dip it in the Thai peanut sauce, it takes it to a whole new level. For entrees, I ordered the traditional Thai basil with ground chicken and my fiancée ordered the emerald salmon. We both ordered our dishes Thai hot, which for them is a step above hot. My fiancée felt the salmon was a tad overcooked and the avocado slices we're definitely not ripe, unfortunately. We actually couldn't cut through the avocados. The curry itself, however, was absolutely delicious and had a pretty decent spice. For my dish, I was pretty blown away. It was noticeably (and enjoyably) spicier than the salmon. The ground chicken and vegetables were beautifully seasoned and the fried egg added a nice extra, almost contrasting flavor component. The rice gave a welcomed balancing texture to complete the meal. The umami flavors and heat were absolutely wonderful and I'm upset that I'm currently not eating it while writing this review. We're definitely going to be come back here and I have now developed a palate for Thai. read more

Stopped by The Elephant on a recent trip to FLX after many attempts at other restaurants - many restaurants in the FLX area love to close on Monday, Tuesday, and / or Wednesday, so we had a hard timing finding an open restaurant, but luckily we landed on The Elephant. It's a little tucked away from the main drag in Geneva, but easily accessible. We were essentially the only ones there on a Tuesday night, but there did appear to be a lot of takeout orders. Our waitress was incredibly nice and welcoming, making kind small talk with us and giving us plenty of attention, which was nice. The menu at The Elephant is quite large, but my sister and I narrowed it down to our main interests - pad thai-type dishes for me and curry-type dishes for my sister. I went for the drunken noodles, which had a wide-ish noodle with a light brown sauce, tofu, and plenty of veggies. I was a big fan of this dish, and I was pleased that it was the perfect serving amount - I feel like similar restaurants often give you SO much food, but I was pleasantly surprised by the appropriate portion size. Also, the dish featured this beautiful carrot flower that was a delightful addition to the noodles! My sister wanted to get one type of curry that they were unfortunately out of, so she settled the red curry, which she also really liked! My sister also appreciated the generous yet appropriate portions, and she also enjoyed the plentiful veggies on the dish. The prices of both were totally reasonable as well, which also pleased us. Overall, we really enjoyed our meal at The Elephant, and we were glad to find a place that was open on a Tuesday night in Geneva. I've been here several times now. This is my favorite Thai place around! The location is convenient; there's plenty of parking. It took me a little bit to figure out where it was when I first came here; the parking and entrance are in the back of the building. The decor is pretty and the interior is cozy and warm. We've always sat at the booths. The elephant decor is awesome. There are monitor/screens with videos of fireplaces and they're actually very comfortable. There have been other things on the screens too like fish/aquarium. All the waitresses we've had have been very nice and attentive. They've checked in frequently enough. My water has always been full. On the most recent visit, We were offered a spice rack which had sriracha, chili powder, chilies in vinegar and chili fish oil. I was ecstatic about that because I LOVE spicy food. I've tried many dishes here. My go-to is the Thai basil (Thai spicy) with mock duck. The mock duck is a great texture, loaded with veggies. Other dishes I've tried and loved here are the jungle curry with mock duck, garlic sauce with mock duck, massaman curry, pad see aew. They've all been very delicious. The Thai spicy heat is good and yummy, not over or underwhelming. Of course, since finding out about the spice rack, I could increase the spice level to my liking. On my most recent visit, I tried the Tom Yum soup with tofu in a hot pot. It was loaded with mushrooms, tomatoes, tofu, green onions, cilantro. It was substantial and filling which I wasn't expecting. The soup was a flavor and fragrance bomb! it took me back to Thailand. It was sour and spicy and the lemongrass was perfection. I can't recommend it enough. The presentation of the food is always so pretty! The soups and jungle curry come in gorgeous metal serving ware. The veggies are cut into cute shapes, the rice comes made into a cone shape. The hot pot for the soup was especially cool. I love Thai food and The Elephant is my go to Thai restaurant in the area. Four of us ate at The Elephant last night and we were all very impressed. Two of us just moved here from Southern California where there are lots of Thai restaurants, so we were excited to try one here, and they didn't disappoint! We had: shrimp Tom Kha soup, lobster pad thai, spicy basil fried rice, Penang curry with shrimp and the emerald salmon. Everything was fresh, delicious, delicate, just the right amount of spicy and presented very well. The service was really good, and our waitress was very personable. The decor of the restaurant was definitely Thai inspired but elegant, not kitschy. Nice aquarium tv show was showing on the tv which was calming. We will be back, and soon! read more
