We wanted a break from the abundant American cuisine in the area and after hiking all morning through the gorge, we were ready for some Thai food. We came for lunch. I started off with the Larb salad which was fresh and flavorful, spice level is customizable. My partner tried it for the first time and really liked it. It's light and healthy and I could probably eat this salad every day. We also got the fried tofu appetizer which came with a sweet peanut sauce. My go-to is tofu pad see ew pretty much every Thai place I go and Thai Elephants didn't disappoint! My partner got the chicken pad see ew. We took a trip to Watkins Glen after a scenic stop at a winery. The wine hit, the hunger hit harder, and we wandered into town very ready to eat. That's when we found this random Thai spot that looked completely unassuming, but honestly delivered. I got the duck noodles - savory, rich, and just a bit sweet. My girlfriend ordered the Three Duck dish, but it leaned way too sweet (and I agree). The meat portions were generous. The staff was lovely too - super kind and even helped open our wine bottle. They brought us an ice bucket and everything. Total small-town gem energy with surprisingly solid Thai food. I didn't get the Three Duck dish so I'll give this spot a 4/5. read more

Thai Elephants was in walking distance of my hotel and I'm so glad it was. It's a cozy restaurant with not much room in between tables. I got a delicious curry and shared spring rolls with my husband. The food is flavorful without being so spicy you can't taste anything. There is attention to detail in the food in the form of a carrot cut into the shape of a flower, a serving of rice in a volcano shape. It's reasonably priced and the service is prompt. We later found out there is an all-vegan sister restaurant a few streets away called Green Elephants. Next time! read more

The food was very good: from the appetizers to the entrees; we ate every bite. The Bad: Nothing. Some caveats though. The food is good, so expect a wait. We were told it would be twenty minutes, but we were seated in ten. Additionally, 18% gratuity was already added to the bill. This was bad for the restaurant because we would have tipped more. One of the few restaurants open during off-season (winter) on a Monday and so glad they are! We were visiting from out of state touring the many wineries around the lake. They allow BYOB with NO corkage fee which was a huge plus for us! We were sat by the window and were immediately waited on. We took our time ordering, enjoying one of our wine purchases, and didn't feel rushed. We shared the calamari appetizer while we reviewed the menu some more. It was not my favorite calamari - the pieces were thick and chewy and the drizzled chili sauce soaked in too much of the breading so it was not very crispy. However, our duck and noodle entrees were great. I ordered my crispy duck basil "mild" spice level and it had no spice at all - I actually added some spice for some kick. We ordered the drunken noodles "medium" and that really packed a punch- way more than what I would consider medium spice. The noodles were excellent, but wish I could've eaten more without my tongue getting burned off! This is by far the best Thai Food that I've had in my life in any large, medium or small city. It's way better than anything you can get in LA or NYC. Wow is an understatement. We found it by accident after hiking Watkins Glen and still dream about it. They are so kind, friendly and get the food out really quickly. We loved the chicken sate and the corresponding peanut sauce. Their pineapple fried rice with shrimp is one of the best that I've ever had in my life. The shrimp are huge and you get a large portion of them. My husband is a Massaman Curry Snob. He only likes a handful of them. He absolutely loved theirs. Said it was by far the best one that he's ever had and still dreams of it. Next time that we're in the Finger Lakes, we'll definitely make this one of the first stops on our list. You must eat here. Leaning more towards a 3.5 if they had that rating. Overall not bad for a Thai spot, but I thought their dishes leaned towards more Thai American fusion. Friendly people and it was take out due to COVID era. Everything just had that sauce-y finish as if someone had taken the dishes and thought hmm, better add another touch of Americanized sauce and doused it with something that reminded me of some General Tso's finish. If you're into Thai fusion, then this is your joint. For me, I think if they had dialed back the sauces, they would have nailed it just right. Nice people, quick service, and COVID conscientious. Ordered the padthai w/tofu which was an interesting sauce base; the pad Thai was a redder color which I have always been intrigued as to what is the ingredient to bring about the color. Fish sauce, soy sauce, tamarind sauce, sugar are the main ingredients I know in a Pad Thai. The pad Thai is a little dry but it's also possible that because we drove our noodles back to the hotel about 15 mins that the noodles soaked up the sauce and made it more dry. Got the 3 flavor duck- The duck itself was actually delicious and if they had kept it plain with some rice and some vegetable garnish, the culinary finesse of this was perfect. I thought the 3 spice/flavor sauce put was almost an after thought that didn't blend/meld in with the duck. I would almost recommend that the skin/duck be marinated in this sauce and then finished/braised for a more harmonious flavor. good with a lot of rice to get it down if you want a rice seasoning. A little tougher to finish overall overall because it felt calorically dense and complex in flavors. One of the only Thai places in the region; therefore a gem in terms of adventurous menu options, but a little disappointed with their over ambitious almost haphazard saucing. Outstanding Thai food! Our favorite items were Crab Wontons, Wonton Soup and Panang Curry. We started off by ordering Honey Ginger hot tea. This was nice, warm and just perfect during a rainy day. Then we got the Spring rolls which were flavorless; do not recommend ordering these. Now, the crab wontons were absolutely delicious. Creamy and crunchy; get two orders of these! We then got the wonton soup and this probably was my favorite item. The broth is so rich, a bit salty and garlicky and the wontons are veggies were excellent. I would have this everyday if I could. Then the panang beef curry arrived. At first I was surprise to see how runny the sauce was, I'm used to a thicker consistency on the curry sauce. But I literally almost cried when I tasted it. It transported me back to our travels in Thailand. What a special moment! Absolutely delicious! We also ordered the chicken pad Thai but we were not impressed by it. I'm glad we came here after a hike. They now do dine-in and take out, and I appreciate their set up. There is a no-touch machine to take your temperature and hand sanitizing stations throughout. Seating is spaced apart so that every other booth is taken out of circulation, creating good distance between groups. We each tried several things, and we liked them all. The galangal and lemongrass gave the red and green curries a depth of flavor. I also liked that if you choose the tofu as the protein option, the tofu is not fried or bland. If you just add tofu to something, it can usually turn out tasteless. I was expecting the tofu to get its flavor just from the curry, but I think they salt the tofu a little first before cooking it in the curry. Our servers were also really nice. If you are worried about parking, there is also 2-hour parking out front, which is helpful. read more
