The Elegant Farmer is one of those places that just feels right. My partner and I split the pizza, the tri-tip sandwich, and a barley salad, and everything was on point. The tri-tip sandwich was packed with steak, not filler, and the pizza was hearty and filling. You can really taste the care in each bite. They also have a great drink selection, both non-alcoholic and alcoholic. Whether you're in the mood for something crisp and clean or something with a little kick, you'll find something that works. Prices are more than fair. We spent thirty-five bucks total for dinner for two and left full and happy. You don't find that kind of quality and value too often. The service is always kind and attentive, and you can tell the folks running it care about every part of the experience. It's a true family business, full of warmth. The sense of community here is strong. Locals and visitors are treated like regulars. If you're anywhere near Chester, do yourself a favor and stop by. We were in the area for Lassen Volcanic National Park during the Thanksgiving break, not realizing that the park was basically shut down for the winter/wet season. (Park roads were closed but we were welcome to park in their lot and walk in to the trails.) That said, there was a lot less traffic in the area, so understandably, The Elegant Farmer had a limited menu so they don't end up with a lot of wasted food. We enjoyed the food and would have liked to sit outdoors, but the property next door had a huge bonfire going and it was very smoky. At first it was tolerable, but then the wind shifted and blew it towards us, so we ended up sitting indoors. This is not a negative review for the business, more so for our timing. We plan on coming back to Lassen Park to enjoy all the hiking once it opens back up in spring/summer, so we look forward to trying The Elegant Farmer again. It's a darling store/eatery, and the outdoor seating is charming. I recommend you try it out if you're in the area. read more

We made a sudden stop here on our way to hike Devil's Kitchen Trail -- just needed something to eat -- and wow, this place is magical! The moment you walk in, you're hit with the cozy scent of room sprays, bubble baths, fresh flowers, and candles. It's cute, flowery, plant-filled, and totally homey. Inside, there are handcrafted vases and unique decor pieces -- like a mini boutique-meets-café vibe. The outdoor seating area is surrounded by lush plants, with umbrellas for shade. So peaceful! The highlight: FIREWOOD PIZZA. They literally toss it into the flames and pull it out perfectly crispy and smoky. Delicious! When we visited, there was a big table set up for an art workshop -- women in flowy summer dresses painting and chatting. The whole vibe was like a dreamy summer afternoon. We were super excited to find this gem of a place. It opened with storefront last year and has added a lovely outside lounge and wine/cafe. New favorite place! We purchased a bunch of boutique products that were impressive in their unique creative and useful variety. Was really enjoyable to peruse and relax. I drove past TEF until one evening I said let's try it out!! Now it's one of my favorite gift shops/snack & champagne or wine with friends AND amazing tri-tip sandwiches (Joe's marinade is seriously the best!). They also have pulled pork sandwiches & brick oven pizzas! They have live music & as you can see from their picture on IG & mine the place is adorable!! We are now getting married there in 2026!! We were biking by and just loved the vibe of the storefront, so we stopped in. Lovely little decor shop at the front of the house that leads to a well designed cafe at the back. Very inviting and comfortable seating area. We ordered a light meal and were amazed by the flavors. Good selection of food and beverages to choose from. Twice we have been here to order food. Both times we were told they have a "limited menu." We ordered pizzas. It took over 40 minutes, both times, to get the pizzas. They were wood-fired, but tasted like smoke more than pizza. We are giving this place a pause and hope they'll get their act together. read more
