The pulled pork sandwiches were deliciously moist and very flavorful. The pasta and potato salads were also very good. This will definitely be a regular dining spot for us when visiting the Chester area. Their lovely gift shop, which you enter on your way to the dining area in back, is also very nice to browse while waiting for your meal.

(Park roads were closed but we were welcome to park in their lot and walk in to the trails.) That said, there was a lot less traffic in the area, so understandably, The Elegant Farmer had a limited menu so they don't end up with a lot of wasted food. We enjoyed the food and would have liked to sit outdoors, but the property next door had a huge bonfire going and it was very smoky. At first it was tolerable, but then the wind shifted and blew it towards us, so we ended up sitting indoors. This is not a negative review for the business, more so for our timing. We plan on coming back to Lassen Park to enjoy all the hiking once it opens back up in spring/summer, so we look forward to trying The Elegant Farmer again. It's a darling store/eatery, and the outdoor seating is charming. I recommend you try it out if you're in the area.

Once ownership changed, the service went downhill. For the past several years, we kept given it another try and another chance - always leaving feeling sad for the old fountain, and the sweet teens that worked hard and were kind, the wait was always worth it. Unfortunately the owner, and this isn't a one time thing, but every year since opening, our family and friends have repeatedly been treated rudely. I used to think maybe she was having a bad day...but it keeps happening. You end up feeling like you're in the way, unwanted, or wasting her time. I used to think it won't last ....they will be out of business.....it's 2026 and it's still open. This is the 1st year we didn't go. :( The recipes are different - shakes are smaller and you get treated poorly. Might be better off going to Jeffroes produce for a shake, or pine shack frosty. I hope things will improve at the Rusty, but for now it's not worth dealing with the owner. I hope she gets better. The feedback is very consistent. RIP Lassen Drug.

Sure, there are limited selections, but it's there if you're not prepared and haven't brought your own snacks to fuel your national park explorations. T-shirts are nice, albeit rather expensive for official park T-shirts. There is wifi here, so you can message that friend that you were supposed to meet up with, but something went awry.

They've got a good amount of souvenirs but not much of selection compared to other National Park gift shops. The service staff is nice and welcoming. I'd still be on the safe side and pack your own lunch, but check this place out to see if they have some hot food options available if you're not craving a cold lunch. Don't miss out on the soft serve ice cream either!

I am glad I suggested it, my two friends and the daughter of one of my friends went. We got there a half hour before it closed but the owner still made us feel welcomed. We all had fun perusing through the store and picking out things to buy. My friend's little girl especially liked the Christmas section. Of course the store has non Christmas items too. If you like quaint, eclectic shops, you will love this one. The store has a combination of new items and nice antiques. There were a lot of unique things to buy.
