Found this place as I was looking for a breakfast place I could go to with no lineup. The staff were friendly, there was lots of space but also lots of people there. The waitress was bilingual which was great and there are multiple choices for eggs Benedict. A classic family brunch resto. I ordered the You are the Boss Eggs - came with pancakes, toast, eggs and a choice of meat (ham, sausage, bacon). It was good. I asked for blueberry pancake (+1.50). I was surprised the blueberry weren't in the pancake but a topping. The blueberry was a bit like jam had a bit of a weird raspberry taste to it as well. This is a must do when I come to visit my grandma. I love this place mostly due to nostalgia and for their breakfast potatoes. I ordered the smoked salmon eggs benedict with the potatoes and while everything tasted great, our server forgot a part of my dish (guacamole) then tried to blame it on the kitchen when we asked her why it took so long to retrieve it. We sat and watched her chit chat with other waiters before fetching it, so that's where the ding comes from. The smoked salmon was buttery soft and just salty enough to still catch the sweetness of the fish. This paired nicely with the poached eggs and the seasoned potatoes. The potatoes were flavored with like a creole seasoning: a little bit of this and a little bit of that. The guacamole was pretty much just like an avocado mash, but my snooty California palate knows her way around a guacamole. It was still good. I can't wait to come back! read more

I've eaten here before, and at this location (Upper James) I have never walked out disappointed. I ate there again Monday past and I was once again very pleased with the service as well as the food. The place is clean, quiet and the food was very good. I had a big breakfast and the bacon was crispy, the sausage was firm but not dripping in grease and the toast wasn't burned. When I ordered tea, I got a small pot of tea that provided me with three mugs, one which I shared with my friend who I was dining with. The prices were also very inexpensive. The only reason our bill was over twenty bucks (for two people) was because I ordered a big meal (I was very hungry). I'm a huge fan of Egg & I in Hamilton. It's located past Rymal on Upper James in a little plaza that has limited parking, especially during brunch time. The service is either a hit or miss and you can wait for 5 minutes or wait for 30 minutes for a table. The food here is pretty decent and my orders are rarely wrong. Coffee is always circulating and being refilled. The Egg & I Big Breakfast or Boss Breakfast is enough to fill 2 at a good price. I come here (instead of Cora's) when I'm hankering for some breakfast. read more

I had high hopes for this place because it was so highly rated but unfortunately it did not live up to expectations. The location and interior was nice and homey. It reminded me of a Coras. The food just wasn't good. The potatoes were undercooked and bland. They had no flavour and their home fries is just a mushy mess of potatoes. Not exactly home fries. French toast was dry. I enjoyed the Greek omelette but that's about it. I wouldn't recommend this place. read more

Went on the weekend for breakfast as we normally go to this location or Ancaster. With the pandemic we have been eating outside, we decided to go in . We were so happy to see their strict rules from how many at a table to signing in to separating the tables plus their bathroom were very clean.We spoke with the manager, she was wonderful ! Wouldn't even give it 1 star... Came here for the first time on a busy Sunday and hair was found in 2 plates that my friend ordered. Due to it being so busy our server only checked on us twice to take our order and bring the food so obviously we didn't hang onto the hair for proof... Server finally comes back once we finished our meal and my friend tells her there was hair in the food hence the huge mountain of potatoes still left on his plate. All she could say was "where?" however the proper response should have been "I'm so sorry".... I had to demand for my friend's meal to be comped and explained why in the world would we hang onto random hair for 45 mins to wait to "show you"??? The server was flat out rude and insisted on smirking at me during this encounter and I was not pleased at all. Wouldn't recommend, food isn't good enough to wait for 45 mins only to find hair in it. read more

Great food. But after I ate, I headed to the washroom and left my bag where I was sitting. I come out of the washroom and the waiter was waiting for me right outside with the check in her hand. Assuming that I dined and dashed, of course. That assumption is horrible. Especially if my bag is still there beside my seat. I'm not sure if that's how you treat everyone that goes to the washroom or only people of color, but if that's the case you need to get your shit together or you'll lose business. Here's how our first visit went: Pros: - Fast, friendly service. - Decent portions for reasonable prices. - Delicious bacon and ham - tastes like local, not luncheon. - Unique hash browns - normally I don't care for these, but Egg and I does them differently and I ate more than I usually would. - Egg paintings EVERYWHERE! Cons: - The decor, as others have noted, is a little run down and is in need of an update. - I found it quite loud, though this is probably typical of a Sunday morning. I ordered eggs, potatoes and sausage. Sausage were deep fried on the outside and raw on the inside. I had two small bites and stopped once I realized they weren't cooked properly, and thank god I did because those two bites were enough to make me sick for two days. Literally. I've been coming here since I was knee high to a grasshopper and although I'm not a fan of how the prices have increased over the years I still love the place and I am always full and satisfied when I leave. The coffee is always hot and the servers are always smiling and welcoming to us. Anything on the eggs Benedict is worth giving a try, SO good! They have some sweeter options for breakfast but I wouldn't recommend them personally (too sweet for first thing in the morning). The burgers are also great! read more

We used to love this place when we lived nearby but it has lost it's edge and has become an average greasy spoon. I always judge a restaurant by the cleanliness of the washrooms and the men's was filthy and in need of repair. My daughter said the ladies was just as bad. We waited a long time to order, then a long time for food and the meals were just OK. My wife's eggs Betsie looked nice but for 12 bucks the hollandaise should be homemade - this is definitely from a packet and not browned under the salamander. I had an asparagus and Swiss omelette - blah. Toast was cold and soggy. The coffee is excellent though. Service - ho hum. We went out of our way to go here and were disappointed. Do I expect too much? Every time we go out as a family of four it costs a minimum of 50 Bucks - even for breaky -and the quality is just not there most times. My advice..... Stay at home. Make it from scratch and save the dough. read more

Great if you go with a group of 4. Any bigger groups it looks like it might take some time to get a table. The service was average, the food was great. Food came somewhat slowly but we went at a busy time (Sunday morning). I had the Guacamole Eggs Benny and they were delicious. I do wish though that the homefries were more of a "fried" style instead of looking like mash potatoes, but they're still pretty good. Overall a good restaurant and very busy for a reason! read more

Found this place on Yelp. We were driving through and looking for a good brunch place. We were not disappointed! Slowly going down hill. Have been a regular customer for few years and I'm finding nothing but disappointment. Within the last 1 year, after the menu had been once again adjusted, prices yet again went up, and portions became smaller. Not to mention home fries are cold half of the time, new french fries are cheap thin fries that are always soggy, greasy, just plain disgusting. Most of the times the back bacon is half of the size what it used to be. After the renovations, not sure what possessed owners to install chandeliers in entire restaurant, and those darn outdoor sleight tiles with chairs that weigh as much as a tank! These steel chairs make so much noise, it drives patrons crazy! After almost 4 years, we haven't returned to egg&I and switched restaurants. read more

THe food was very tasty but very greasy .not my style at all

Absolutely disgusting, I called ten minutes before going and was told there was no line and the two of us would be sat quickly,(lies). Upon arrival there was a line up out the door. We were not sat or greeted by anyone and had to walk ourselves to an open table and explain what we were doing. Food took longer than anywhere should even though it was busy, I then had to pull out a mountain of watery feta cheese from the inside of my omelette and had to sop up watery residue on my plate from the rest of the feta cheese. Food was sub par for anywhere. When we wanted to discuss our bill due to poor quality of food we were not offered one penny of consolidation. Then we had to wait in a massive line to pay a bill that wasn't even on receipt paper, but the hand written chicken scratch from our server, you can't substitute anything for home fries if you don't want any, you have to take them and pay extra for bacon or anything else, the place is gross, we will NOT be returning. No tip was given this visit to say the least read more
