This aside, I've been here before and give it high grades across the board. Service is very fast and friendly. I love the open-air bar/dining area---particularly on a great day like today. If I've had better brisket, it might have been once and the only slight issue was the strong black-pepper dominance in the bark, but it's easily offset by the delightful slightly sweet, NC-style mustard-based BBQ sauce. When you have tender and juicy brisket like this, you realize the criminality of 90% of BBQ joints that serve thin uneatable, almost unchewable, beef jerky-like, desiccated meat that is better used for holding up one's pants than adding the the waistline. The KC ribs were dry but sweet, so it was cooked just right so as to absorb the sweet BBQ sauce rather than let it sit on top in a sticky mess All in all perhaps the best overall BBQ joint that I've ever been to --- and I toured the Appalachian trail and tried 8-10 places and nothing touched this place.

Come for the food, stay for the folks…read more Recently moved to Upstate NY and decided I should go on a chicken wing tour of the area. I mean, these people know wings. Running errands in this area and dropped in to try Memphis King's (1st time visit) I always get the same wings (hot buffalo) at each restaurant/bar to keep things fair. Memphis King's wings are smoked, then fried. I've found that you lose a lot of smoke flavor when they're fried to order but these had just the right amount still present. Very tasty. And crispy! (a lot of smoked wings are grilled but, while delicious, it doesn't render enough of the skin to make them crispy and I like crisp!) I've sampled wings from about 30 places (so far) and I would whole heartedly put Memphis King's in my top 10 for sure. Looking forward to trying their other items because their burnt ends look great. As does the house made pastrami *droooool* As for the people, the gal in front of house was wonderful. And the chef (not sure if he was the owner or not) was so nice. Kept checking in on me to see how everything was and kept offering me suggestions and samples. Not pushy, just smart business because I'm 100% gonna go back.

I got the Dizzy Chicken with Dizzy sauce with the Mac and cheese and collard greens, it was absolutely phenomenal! The chicken was moist and flavorful, Mac and cheese was extremely cheesy but not super heavy on the first bite, the collard greens had a nice kick to add to everything! My boyfriend got the ribs with cornbread and potatoes... the cornbread was moist and a perfect balance of sweet and savory. My boyfriend doesn't like a whole ton of sauce on his ribs but isn't one to say much about altering an order, but he said he had no complaints! The sauce was sweet sauce but they do have other options! Their menu was pretty simple but that was nice after a long day of driving. The service was helpful and comfortable. I would love to stop again!

As a…read morebarbecue lover living in the city where it's often expensive and strangely absent from many menus, I simply couldn't leave without getting myself a plate. We ordered a half rack of ribs to split, waiting about 15-minutes for our name to be called (too long for two people frothing at the mouth for it). The ribs came undressed, but you could help yourself to as much sauce as you like at the counter. We tried both the apple and chipotle sauces, preferring the former, which was sweet and smokey. It paired perfectly with the tender, fatty ribs. When I think back on it as I am right now, I salivate. My husband also ordered their brisket sandwich (available only on Sundays), which looked just as appetizing as the ribs. The meat was cooked wonderfully medium rare with a charred exterior and a slightly pink interior. My husband ate that heartily. It was one of our favorite bites of the trip. I'm envious of my past self for enjoying that meal while I sit here now, craving it but unable to have it again.

The photos online looked amazing, but unfortunately, I don't think it lived up to expectations. Being next door to their marketplace, the space has a laid-back vibe--bright, well-lit, and it smells really good. The two people working the front (one taking orders, the other handing out food) were friendly and welcoming, which was a nice touch. We ordered the ribs, brisket, bratwurst, potato salad, mac & cheese, and fries. Of the meats, the brisket was probably the best--good bark, and not dry. The bratwurst was very dry and definitely needed the mustard. The ribs were far too salty, and I wasn't a fan of their peach BBQ sauce. The sides were pretty solid. The mac & cheese was okay, though it could've used a bit more seasoning. The potato salad was solid, and the fries were good. The pickles that came with the entrees were also tasty. All in all, a bit disappointing. When the sides outshine the entrees, it says something.
