What an interesting hotel. The rooftop bar is a highlight but the room I stayed in was riddled with broken furniture. From the shelf in the shower being broken, the fact that the shower door isn't really a door and the remotes to control the curtains were inconsistently not functional. I did like the style and the drinks at the hotel but staying here was a conflicting experience. read more

I stayed for a Wedding and am writing on behalf of 9 other couples who stayed at this location. If you were able to read the below reviews, they have clearly made no impact on the owner of this property! They gave many of us along with other random guests in the hotel the master code to the doors. 7084 if you care to know! For the cost of the rooms, you may as well save your money and build a competing hotel across the street because this one is doomed to fail. The carpeted rooms and dark hallways were tried to be disguised as upbeat thanks to the new coat of pink paint that has already begun to get torn up due to the right corridors. I had one drink up on the rooftop, which was nice, until I forgot to close my tab and upon checking out, I saw that I had been charged 50$ with a 20% service charge on top. I will most likely call to dispute but its not looking hopefull considering they have no capable people working the front desk and the bartenders up top are so used to tourists they most likely couldnt care less about taking complaints over the phone. read more

We didn't stay at the hotel, but we did go to their bar. The drinks were delicious but there was only one bartender, and the wait to order a drink was over 15 minutes. Then we had to wait about 10 more for the drink to be ready. If there's a lot of people there, it will be very loud, as it's essentially just one room. read more

Updating from a previous review. The check-in process has definitely improved since my last stay. Previously, check-in happened immediately on arrival and took some time to get into the room. This time, everything was streamlined. They texted me hours ahead of my visit with all the details, including the room number and access code, so it was seamless. Still one of the most beautiful hotels in the area, and I'm looking forward to my next stay. read more

What a strange little hotel! We chose it because of the speakeasy (it's not a hidden speakeasy, so no fun there - but the choose your own adventure-actor/liquor cocktails were fun) and the rooftop bar (which we could never visit because it was either "too busy" or "closed for an event.") There's no reception area, if you run out of coffee....oh well. It's like an Airbnb of hotels, with valet parking that you park yourself? Threw stars based solely on location! read more

First time coming here since the rebrand of the Quirk. Always love the rooftop bar and am glad it hasn't changed much at all. Even the exact same bartenders I saw a several months ago remained. They are highly knowledgeable in what to concoct. Was a bit jealous someone asked for there recommendations and they created some off menu delicacy. Expensive but worth it. read more

They do a delightful little poem and cocktail event every month where a local writer will make a personalized poem and the bartender based on the poem will customize a cocktail for you. My cocktail was lovely. This is in the speakeasy which is a different building than the hotel itself. I thought the room was cozy and relaxing. I found all of the staff to be extremely kind and accommodating. I got confused trying to figure out which bar I wanted to go to, and the man at the front desk very kindly walked me to where I needed to be. And a cook helped me find my way when I was lost. I will say the parking if you are just visiting the bar or restaurant can be tricky as there are not many free spaces easily found nearby. Also seating in the speakeasy is somewhat limited as it is a smaller space. Overall, would definitely recommend going to the event; it's held every month! read more

Do NOT stay here. I am a UVA alum that was in town for a wedding. Although the check-in process is a little strange since you can't talk to a human, everything went smoothly until the day we were meant to check out. When we tried to leave the room, we were LOCKED in. We called the hotel - no answer. We texted their automated text line, which told us the door was unlocked (it was not). We called a friend who was unable to open the door from the outside. He had to find an onsite staff member (of which there are few). The onsite staff members could not open our door with the code nor with a key, so they eventually had to call the fire department to break the door down and get us out. So moral of the story, I wouldn't recommend staying here unless you never want to leave. Quick PS: The 2 women on-site did try their best to help us and were extremely friendly / apologetic. This complaint is not at all directed at them, but rather at Blue Suede Hospitality Group. They clearly do not know how to manage a hotel and want to cut costs by employing no staff and having automatic key codes. read more

Super cool space, great location, clean and comfortable. And on top of all that its dog friendly, and the onsite bar, restaurant, and rooftop are also dog friendly. On top of all this, the best part of the experience was John Micheal who works there, at every opportunity, even though he did not work for the bar, made sure that we as hotel guests were comfortable. I did not see him sit still for more than two seconds, he was helping people get checked in, helping people with baggage, cleaning things up and just making sure everyone was having a fantastic time. His professionalism enthusiasm and passion were absolutely Top-notch. read more

I booked this hotel room because I needed a hotel close to UVA Health while my mom was admitted unexpectedly due to side effects from her cancer treatment. She ended up being discharged early and I wanted to switch the room reservation to the very next week so I could accompany her. I called the hotel as soon as I knew the change in plans and the agent on the phone said she needed to "fill out a ticket for upper management to look at" and she will get back to me. I heard nothing back until I called several days later to check on the status of the ticket. After being on hold for over an hour, the agent said "there's nothing they can do to accommodate me and if they change my reservation then they have to do this for everyone" - the overall disorganization and no empathy for what their guests might be going through is a massive red flag and no one should spend any money here. read more

Booking was horribly awful process-agent on phone double booked a night, then promised we would be refunded for the mistake THEY made, but have yet to be refunded. Hotel stay itself once you arrive is fine, but if there are ANY issues at all don't expect it to be made right. Unfortunate because it's a pretty place in a good location. read more

My stay at The Doyle Hotel (12/13-12/14) was one of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had, primarily due to a severe personal security breach and a complete lack of staff presence. I feel compelled to share this to warn future guests. All major issues: * We were locked out of our room for hours, 12PM - 6:00PM because the provided text code did not work. * The concierge desk was repeatedly unattended. We were told that there will always be on attendee there from 8-11pm. No one was physically there each time we went to search for a person to help with the door. Even at checkout around 9:30 AM on the 14th, the desk was completely unstaffed. * After a lengthy search, a hotel employee was finally located. Instead of providing a proper, unique code for our specific room, this employee handed us a universal master code that could open ANY door in the hotel. We tested this with our friend's room and were able to successfully open the rooms * This is a monumental security failure that left us feeling completely unsafe and vulnerable for the entirety of our stay. If this employee shared it with us, who else has it? We did not ask for this code--we asked for our specific room code. * To top off the security nightmare, our bathroom was not cleaned to a standard expected of any hotel, further diminishing the quality of the stay. Given the repeated failures to provide basic service and, most importantly, the profound security breach, I would strongly advise caution before booking here. Guest safety was severely compromised. Hoping to receive compensation or refund from Blue Suede Hospitality. read more

We really loved our room and our experience. Everything was as spotless and comfortable, The check in experience and finding help is a little problematic, and the music from the rooftop bar on the weekends is very loud, very late. But besides that we loved it and would stay again. read more

came to the roof for a drink ordered a tito's martini with a twist. drink came this full (see photo) - asked the bartender what this was and he said he didn't use vermouth because a twist made it sweet enough (have never heard that in my life) and didn't fill the glass...(have lived in nyc for 10 years and have never had a martini with the glass not full) frankly a ridiculous waste of money for a terrible drink - just not how you make a martini. very disappointing read more

What a beautiful hotel! Very nicely surprised at how perfect it is for us. Love the decor, the cleanliness, the soaker tub, our greeting when we came in . 5 stars from us. B & K Wood Chicago, IL read more

I frequently stayed at the Quirk, which is what the hotel was before it was sold and became the Doyle. My experience then was fantastic and at the Doyle it was the absolute opposite. Blue Suede Hospitality Group acquired the hotel in April 2024. After making my reservation, I called the hotel because I needed instructions on getting a $2,000 camera delivered to the hotel to be used for my daughter's engagement that weekend. When I called, it was not the hotel, rather a call center and I could barely understand the agent because of her very thick accent. Anyway, I thought I was all set. The day we were to arrive, I received a text about having to do a digital checkin. I figured that was optional but it was not. It required you to upload a picture of your drivers license and a photo of yourself. Despite trying multiple times, using two different computers as well as my phone, I was unable to upload my license. I called customer service and again got passed around until they sent me a new link because apparently, they had been having issues with other links?!? I arrived at the hotel and although I received a text confirming I had checked in, I never got a code so I didn't know my room number or how to get in. Thankfully, there was a valet (contracted by an independent company) who was able to find someone for me after about 20 minutes and me calling the call center twice. They gave me the same hassle and said I would receive a text with the room number and code within 30 minutes?!? After waiting 15 minutes, I went back in the hotel and miraculously the guy was able to give me the room number and code... Why exactly did I have to wait and go through all of that? We arrived at the room only to find the "contactless" experience to be 100% terrible. Nothing stocked in the frig for purchase, no room service, no amenities whatsoever, however the pricing hadn't changed since it was the Quirk and there was nothing on the website to warn me about the void of service or amenitites. If I had known, I never would have booked. A couple of hours later (4:30 pm), I received confirmation of delivery of the camera from FedEx but there was no one onsite to assist. I again had to resort to calling the call center and texting them, with no success. I was told that someone should be back on the property by 11 am THE NEXT DAY. The next day I went downstairs and found someone after looking for about half an hour. They had no record of any delivery. Multiple phone calls and visits downstairs hounding anyone I could find resulted in the same answer, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. But I had proof of delivery from FedEx. Monday morning at 3:30 am I received a text informing me that the package had been found. When I texted telling them that I needed to get the package by 8 when we were leaving to drive back home, 7 hours away, they informed me that no one would be on property until around 10 am?!? No one ever gave me an explanation as to why it wasn't found for close to three days or where it was found. When I followed up with the call center a couple of days later, they told me it was found in the "banquet hall?!?" I am not sure if this means that an employee stole it and then got concerned that they were going to be caught and placed it somewhere would it be found or what happened. All I know is that I did not have a camera to take pictures at my daughter's engagement or the engagement party afterwards. I was never offered an apology or any form of credit or refund to our hotel stay which for three nights was close to $1,800 (room and taxes) plus a $25/day valet charge (which one time took over 25 minutes to get a car, at 9:30 in the morning - and is only open from 7 am to 10 pm). I would never go back and I wish I had been warned in advance. read more

This is the former Quirk Hotel. Who ever has taken over has gutted the soul and aesthetic beauty. What is worse is the customer service. There is none! The front desk is manned only from 3:00pm to 10:00pm. There is no one there at other hours to assist you. The employees do don't dress or engage at a level appropriate to what they advertise. Such a shame! read more

Wow, I was so excited to try Doyle. I guess i'll be left with the want. From the moment I stepped into the lobby I was rushed by the front desk to be informed that they were at capacity. No welcome? No thanks for visiting? Just simply being pushed out, as if I didn't belong. The people in there didn't look like me, I wonder if this is why I received the treatment I received. In this political climate one must ask these difficult questions. Such an awful experience. read more

I had heard that the Quirk had gone downhill since its new ownership took over and renamed it The Doyle. But I was willing to give it a shot. Unfortunately, the bar was terribly understaffed and the drinks were watered down. My advice to staff... do better! read more

To not have Hotel Support at check I. And check out is beyond ridiculous. No iron in any room and when requested an iron there was no one there to address this request. The check in process is so monotonous, the Bars and restaurants are not owned or operated by the Hotel so you cannot charge meals to your room. Very Super inconvenient property. It took me several hours to straighten on the hotel bill. I went to The Doyle Website to reserve 2 rooms and it wasn't until hours after we checked out that I was told I booked through "Expedia"....I hate Expedia and Priceline for this very reason, once the Hotel sees you booked through one of these websites... well it's no longer their concern and pretty much will NOT Help you...."They Check Out!" BTW...Hotel staff that was present were VERY friendly and helpful....when there was someone present! Not a good experience at all. read more
