This is a place I had no intention of having but I have every intention of returning to. I live outside the city and happened to be doing some work in the city at the time and decided I wanted a dessert and this gem is what I found. THANK YOU!! The service was great as I'm a big question asking person and the owner answered all of my questions as well as helped me to place my order. They were located near one of the trails for Hermann Park, right in front of McGovern Centennial Gardens. It was a great location that was easy to find. I'm somewhat skeptical when it comes to places doing other little things like this that have a spin on something that works. Usually the spin is different but not necessarily better or even a real change. This is not that. The donut cone is actually a plus to the ice cream cone experience. It's a soft sweet thing that adds to it. Donuts in particular are something that to me are almost never as good, ie: donut burgers, but it works here. I personally enjoy a sweet donut so their donut cone is good but could actually be a little sweeter for me. They offer a split, cone and sundae with all of them including a variation of the doughcone. I ordered the Handmade DoughCone to keep things simple. The cone has a hole at the bottom but it's plugged with a strawberry to prevent leakage, which is just a bonus. The flavors of the ice cream and toppings is really part of what shined for me. I'm not sure if they make their own ice cream or not but it tasted like a good quality ice cream to me. The ice cream is a fresh vanilla bean, and I'm sure some would want more ice cream flavors but vanilla bean is one of my favorites so it's great for me. I meant to do this review a while ago so I'm not 100% on some of the toppings, but here's what I believe I had. O got either the cookie butter sauce or the strawberry dream drip sauce. It could've been both though honestly knowing me. I don't remember what the secret sauce was at the time I went there. I don't remember what the secret luxury topping was but I got the churro dust and crushed Oreos, as well as some fresh strawberries. Everything was delicious!! All of the toppings worked well together, and as I said it was all with a good ice cream. Getting to eat the doughcone along the way was just the "cherry on top" if you will. It was a good blend of soft but sturdy to hold up everything. I specifically travelled to find this place and after eating it, I can proudly say I'd travel again. I first discovered The DoughCone was at Houston's LGBT New Face Pride Festival in June. I couldn't believe the highlight was about the dough not the ice cream. It was hot that day. I actually enjoyed both ice cream and the dough cone sitting in the shade. On that day, they were giving away toasted marshmallow. Aw so sweet. My DoughCone was in a plastic cup because I knew it will be melted by the time I get to finish the toppings. I liked the texture of the cone... it's made with dough and tasted dense like a cookie. After revisiting this ice cream truck since the last time, there's been a major improvement and my friends and I were so glad that we went back. The team behind DoughCone were really awesome and efficient. They were able to prepare these sweet treats within a reasonable amount of time and continue to take orders with the guests at the park. We mentioned that we loved their location at McGovern Centennial Gardens and they agree too! Plenty of parking and a wonderful park to browse. The milkshakes were smooth and creamy...a nice consistency. The banana split was loaded with toppings and sauces to liking...such an indulgence. The DoughCone definitely is a classic with their vanilla ice cream along with the signature cone, filled to the brim and placed in a cup to devour. The cup is needed so that you won't be dripping all over the place and can take your time eating it. I loaded mine up with strawberry and peanut butter drizzle (like a PB+J), churro dust, and fruity pebbles. The combos are endless and they all taste great together in my opinion. These treats were so good and everyone agreed! Glad that the team takes constructive criticism and is there to listen to any suggestions...showing care about their customers. Loved this ice cream truck!! Grabbed a small cup while at the 713 night market. The staff was super friendly and they worked so quickly despite such a huge line. My sundae was just as delicious as it looked! I'm a big chocolate person and this definitely satisfied my chocolate craving. (The small cup was a lot more packed than I thought!) I checked out this place at Buffalo Bayou in the food truck park off Sabine St. I tried their rainbow Pride cone and it was such a cool idea! I got the secret topping of the day, sprinkles, peanuts, M&M's, and pecan praline (extra). Added the secret sauce of the day which added the perfect complement to this loaded ice cream cone. The owner Avi was super friendly and came over to talk while I waited on my order. This is such a great attribute that really stands out to me among any restaurant or business. They're knowledgeable about topping combinations, though you'll have to ask. They also have a secret sauce that changes periodically (today was honey). I've been meaning to track down this ice cream truck for a while now. Due to serendipity, it just so happened to be parked right outside the Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern when I was visiting. Naturally, I jumped at the opportunity. THE PREMISE: Soft serve ice cream (vanilla only) in a cone that is made from dough, resulting in a cone that is thick/soft. Pile on the toppings. THE EXECUTION: I only ordered a few toppings (strawberry, cookie butter, and pecans) but it was still super messy. They serve it in a plastic cup which helps somewhat but the combo of soft serve ice cream and multiple toppings just leads to a messy situation. I spilled on the table, on my shirt, on the ground. The whole time, I was thinking how I'd never take my kids here, haha. Even the staff seemed to have trouble with constructing my cone -- I watched the first attempt fall off the cone (and that's with minimal toppings). THE VERDICT: I want to give this business credit -- it's a novel and unique idea. They are doing their own thing -- good for them. For me, it just didn't quite work as a concept. I think the traditional cone works because it offers a dichotomy of texture -- hard cone, soft ice cream. For me the soft/soft set-up just didn't really work. Additionally, the messiness factor bugged me a bit. I know ice cream cones are always a bit messy but this was beyond that. I'm not going to give them a low review because this may be pure subjectivity. I respect their hustle and creativity and it seems like their owner really cares about the business (clear from reading his responses to reviews on here). This place is amazing.. I was looking for a sweet treat and found one.. The location for the truck was easy to find as their website had a link to the address.. The McGovern Gardens is easily accessible and a lot of parking.. I enjoyed a handmade DoughCone with Fruity pebbles, Nutella and some of their strawberry sauce.. This is a must.. I was actually in search of a churro, but The DoughCone came up and I decided to give them a try on a really hot day. I got a cone with salted caramel and crushed cinnamon toast crunch, and I enjoyed every bite. Ice cream, toppings, and a doughcone... what's not to like? My only slight critique is that I expected the dough to be a little softer, but I guess the idea is for the ice cream to soften it up and for it all to come together. Okayyyyy so, I've actually tried doughcone 2 years ago, and while the service was AMAZING, the cone was actually pretty hard and not satisfying. So I posted a picture saying that it was a pretty cone BUT the cone was just too hard. The person who owns the trucks Instagram page then messages me and says that I can come by and get a fixed order! He was soooo nice, and I ended up forgetting about it for a long time. So fast forward to today, 2 years later, the person I talked to told me that I was still able to redeem my free cone! How nice AND thoughtful. I came up to the foodtruck and told the guy, and he let me order and I was able to get my cone. Service: really great! I saw that they were making conversation with all the customers and they were overall super nice! Food: it was sooo much better this time!
