It's been a while since I've gone out and did anything that would warrant a review. But today the craving for donuts could not be denied. We stopped in the donut house, a tucked away gem off of independence rd to get a sugar fix. The donuts were out of this world. I got a nice assortment to be able to give a fair review. All were fresh and super tasty. Ordering was a little more complicated than I would have liked. But the end result was donuts in my stomach. These donuts always taste freshhly made, and so soft, the donuts seems to melt in your mouth. They also make their fillable creams in house. Our family favorites usually are the chocolate donuts, the glazed donut holes and the glazed round donuts filled with their vanilla creme. We did not eat two of the donuts so we left them in the box for a day. When we are them for breakfast the next morning, the donuts were still very soft and fluffy. The service is always quick and fast. All of the donuts are fresh and soft. We always order and take-out the donuts. But tables are available to enjoy the donuts with either milk or coffee. read more

Tried The Donut House in Concord, great everything just great. Wanted to give one closer to me a try. Totally different, the staff not nice at all. Just in and out, but I noticed it was with certain people that they were nice and accommodating with. No hello How are you? How can I help you? Just in and out, I can get who's next. Very different atmosphere and vibe. I will not return, but I know it doesn't matter. Let me preface this by saying I love donuts okay!! Don't judge me! These donuts were pillowy soft! It was like biting in to a cloud! The flavor was amazing! There was no weird after stage and it was not too sweet. The strawberry shortcake was my favorite. As you can see I didn't go too crazy I wanted to start slow to protect my back. This shop is way in the other side out town from where I live, but I'm a sucker for sweets you can customize, so I make the drive whenever I have a craving. The donuts are never hard or stale, no matter what time I make it there. The selection is mostly yeast, with a few old fashioned cake donuts (vanilla, chocolate, blueberry). Also Apple fritters and bear claws. You also have the option to get custom filled donuts. These are prefilled, you tell them what you want and they take it to the back and fill 'Em up. Vanilla, chocolate, Bavarian, plus about 6 other flavors available. If you are someone who doesn't like very sugary sweets, you're in luck here because these donuts are just what you are looking for. read more

This is my second time trying this place out and although the donuts I've tried are pretty good, I can't help but be frustrated about the service. Don't get me wrong, the people who work there are friendly, but both times I've had errors with my order. The first time, we bought a few different donuts and came home to find the two donuts that were supposed to be filled (which happen in real time, which is an awesome concept when it's actually done) weren't filled at all. This time, as you can see in the photo, I asked for a key lime pie donut, which they even said out loud twice to confirm, only to come home and find a strawberry cheesecake donut instead. I'm sure it'll be delicious, but it's not what I was looking forward to... I really want to like this place because it's close to home and I have a major sweet tooth! Saddens me to re-review and reduce my rating for The Donut House. Still super tasty but I believe their customer service and attention to detail by their staff has gone down. My most recent visit was spontaneous as I drove by, thinking I'd bring some of my family's favorite donuts home. When arriving home, mouth watering to take that first bite...I find that most of my simple order was incorrect and missing my husband's favorite item, his apple fritter. This is my weekend of follow-up reviews and I am pleased to say that my second visit at this little independent donut shop went much better than my first. To begin with, the young lady working this cold and rainy Saturday was delightful and patient as we chose our mixed dozen, which included her personal three favorites: A wonderful Toasted Coconut Creme, a Lemon Frosted and Strawberry Creme filled. Also noteworthy is that fact that they fill their creme-filled selections with vanilla custard, vanilla creme or chocolate creme at the time of purchase. Everything we ordered was fresh and delicious. Although there is little inside seating, the interior is pleasant and tastefully decorated. They also sell coffee and cappuccinos but we only ordered donuts on this visit. Finally, as was the case on my first visit, everything was immaculate and the donut display was as beautiful as I have ever seen. Overall, they won over this donut fanatic. In fact, they are, in my opinion, Charlotte's best donut shop and a Gotta Try! Sorry that I didn't return sooner, but I'll be back soon! read more

Greta place to go to and it's a hidden gem. I came in on a Monday afternoon. They are on a strip shopping center behind the chick-Fil-A. There was a short wait. The staff was friendly and attentive where she made great recommendations. I wish we were able to sample of the great treats, but I would say the ones I tried were amazing. I had the cinnamon roll which was delicious then a taste of the red velvet and It melted in my mouth. It was a great portion. The place was clean. Yoooooo I was so pleased with my experience at this place! I expected a small shop with a line of customers patiently waiting to order a heavy assortment of sweets, but this particular place twisted it up a little bit. There were like four or five people ahead of me when I first got there, but the line started moving super fast. Those employees really know how to fill donuts quickly and serve them out to speed the process along, so I was definitely appreciative of that. They were playing "The Office" on the tv close to the ceiling, so that may or may not have given me some laughs while in line. For being open at 6 am, I was extremely lucky to be in the middle of their new batches, because the only donuts they were out of were the original glazed. I don't really care for glazed too much so that didn't bother me. I ordered an apple fritter, a pine cone donut, a couple filled donuts (NOTE: You can get one of like six fillings added to your donut! I highly recommend the vanilla or Bulgarian!) and a couple of assorted icing chocolate-whatevers. The total came out to under $10, so very very reasonably priced at under $2 a donut. Normally, apple fritters are expensive, but this time I guess I chose the right place, and plus they were bigger than the ones I usually get. Now the most important part: The taste. They were delicious!! The employee used a generous amount of filling and it definitely gave my taste buds an out-of-body experience. I loved these donuts so much. Usually I go to Krispy Kreme because it's the one closest in Mathews but I'm putting my foot down. Donut House is superior in EVERY way.
