Who's open at 12 on a Saturday , well dogwood is and I appreciate them for it. It was peak game time so the place was filled with fans and everyone enjoying a drink and laugh. There's a small interior bar as well but it wasn't open just yet. *Disclaimer*My rating is mainly on the food and the ambiance of Dogwood on a Monday night. I understand that the vibes are completely different on the weekends I came on a Monday evening for a friend's birthday meetup. I parked on the street using the meter parking which only lets you pay for 2 hours at a time ($1.50/hour). The bar wasn't packed at all like it would be on the weekends and they were also showing the Astros game. We sat upstairs and there was hip hop music playing (I think the bartender can control the music upstairs). I got two glasses of Jameson and Lemonade from the happy hour menu. They were okay but I didn't think they were strong at all. I also ordered chicken and waffles sliders and I was VERY DISAPPOINTED! It looked so good but had ABSOLUTELY NO FLAVOR! the chicken breast was not seasoned AT ALL! So you're basically just eating a waffle with plain chicken. Came here on a Monday night for Happy Hour and it was a pretty good experience. Service was okay, food was pretty good. Not sure if I'll be back if I'm not bar hopping in the area, but overall it was an okay evening. Parking isn't bad. We came during happy hour so it wasn't too busy. Super easy to find parking. Street parking is free in the area after 6pm so I parked across the street and downloaded the app to pay until 6. It wasn't busy at all when my friends and I dropped in, maybe four or five other groups dining in so I was super surprised when I walked in and my friends said they hadn't been helped in a while. When the waitress came and took our order, we ordered two Dog Flowers and a Southern Lemonade and Sweet Potater Tots for the table. The tots were SOO good! They had the perfect amount of sweetness and paired perfectly with the ranch they offered on the side for dipping. Definitely order them if you're here! To eat I had the Chicken & Waffle Sliders and my friends had the Vegetarian Quesadillas & Burger with a salad. The Chicken & Waffles Sliders were decent, not something I would order if I came back, but they did the trick for the evening. My friends really enjoyed their food and not much was left when our waitress finally came back to retrieve our plates. The drinks were good. Nice and strong, but I feel they were missing some flavor considering they were cocktails. If I come back I'll probably order something not on the cocktail menu because I wasn't too impressed. Not sure how service works here, but after finishing our meals, we just went to the bar to pay because our waitress never really came back to give us our checks. Not sure if that's how it's intended to be or if she forgot about us but by the time we finished eating, only a few other small groups had come to dine in so I was surprised to see her not as attentive as I would've liked. My friend and I popped in at The Dogwood for Happy Hour to check it out after a friend of hers recommended it. The place looked large with several indoor and outdoor areas, but for the most part, there weren't many people there: Fortunately, the indoor area was air conditioned, while lots of natural light poured into the many windows. It's a bit "unpolished industrial garage-ish" in decor, intentionally so, with two full bars, which, I imagine, would be convenient when this place is packed. One thing that was annoying the entire time we were there is the sleeves of my shirt kept sticking to the table. Sticky tables... ick. As for the food, I ordered the tater tots, because the description sounded good. While the tots themselves were delicious, the bacon pieces tasted very "off" as though they'd been cooked in rancid oil, and I had to spit the pieces out. On the other end of the spectrum, the Texas BBQ Burger was absolutely outrageously delicious! Our server was very friendly and perfectly attentive. Would I return? Probably not, simply because it's just not my vibe... but I just might try to get that burger again. I wonder if they DoorDash? :) read more

Wanted to hang out here with my friends but we were turned away because someone had on high top Jordan sneakers. We peeked inside and saw patrons with high top converse, unbranded shoes, high top Addis's, and a large seat of other sneakers but weren't allowed to enter because they were Jordan's? I asked for the rationale and they told me there was none. It was just company policy. For a SPORTS BAR I was shocked when I was turned away because I had on high top sneakers. Luckily I had a pair of air force ones in my car and didn't have to go back to my house to change, so I went back to my car and got the Air Force ones and then came into the bar(See the pictures below) I'm not sure the reasoning behind this asinine dress code in a sports bar. However they seem to be already suffering the consequences of their business practices as there was a World Series game on last night and the bar was probably only at 40% capacity. Meanwhile around the block the bars were packed. It's a shame because it is a pretty nice place food was pretty good but clearly people shy away for a reason. Wow! Never experienced being racially profiled (at least to my knowledge) until last night. Us, a group of brown and black people walked up to the side door. We didn't even get all the way up the steps when he (white skinny male with long beard) told us he couldn't let us in. I got all way the way up the stairs and was really taken back by it. I asked why. He said my friend looked drunk. I looked back and she was on Snapchat. Apparently she tripped as well and I didn't see it. He told us he couldn't let us in because of that. I have been attending The Dogwood for nearly 2 years. As I was celebrating my graduation from college, the Dogwood bouncer told me to step away from the bar around 1:00 am because "I wasn't ordering drinks", although, I had been spending money since 9:30. As I complied with his orders, he aggressively threw me out the bar (I did not restrain) and proceeded to push and shove me until I was off the property, although I just ordered a drink. The staff is overly aggressive, especially when it comes to the flow of customers. Today we went to Dogwood for the 100th time and for the first time were denied entry due to footwear at 7:15 pm. The bouncer asked my boyfriend what type of sneakers were on his feet and he replied Jordans. And he was denied. The bouncer was adamant these were not his rules but just of the owners. Just to be clear athletic sneakers were allowed but Jordans are not. These shoes were not any less appropriate than anything we saw in the bar: flip flops, Sperrys, Vans, Nikes, Oasics but somehow Jordan sneakers were a forbidden shoe. Would recommend coming on weekdays for HH or Sunday Funday though. They have good Sunday specials. From what I remember it was $5 Deep Eddy's and $1 mimosas or $1 off all other drinks. Service is quick during the day, but any time I've gone on the weekend the service sucks and the bartenders seem so frazzled by the crowd and they're rude. Knocked off two stars because the bouncers were extremely racist to my friends. I came with a group of Asians and the girls were let in but they told the guys that it was max capacity then immediately let in a group of 6 Caucasian males. Clearly being racist there. The Dogwood has a prime location going for it, I'll give you that. Located in the heart of Midtown, Dogwood is always super packed on a Friday or Saturday night. It's an open-air concept with a downstairs area and an upstairs area but it still gets super packed. It takes a while to get a drink and you're packed like sardines. There's nothing bad about Dogwood but nothing that really stands out. I might like it more if it were less hectic. And if the weather was nice. They also have a location in Austin. read more

Made our way to the midtown location only to find that parking is nonexistent, sort of. It was pouring rain and the 'lot' next to the Dogwood was marked as Specs Parking only. Okay, but Specs was a block away with a massive parking lot of its own. No worries, we figured park and check with the staff to see if it really would be okay. Reminder, pouring rain. We walked into the Dogwood and were told "no, we couldn't park there"...understandable, so we asked where we COULD park.....were told 'across the street in that lot, but it is closed because of the rain'. Taking rounds of shots, dancing and taking pictures. One of my cousins decided to go to the car, I think to get his hookah pen. When he returned, they refused to let him in. MIND YOU, we have already been here about two hours. He lets them know that he's been here and has a tab open upstairs. The bouncers tell him, they don't care. He's not up to dress code. His attire: Coral fitted pants (yes coral), a fitted Ralph Lauren short with boat looking type shoes. He gets agitated and walks past them to close his tab and alert us its time to go. Of course the bouncers get very angry. Thankfully, the bartender is coming down the stairs and sees the exchange. He separates my cousin and bouncers and tells them he's good. They get an attitude but the bartender tells them "he's spending money, dressed better than me, he's good. Plus he has a tab." They say alright and my cousin and bartender return upstairs. Bartender apologizes but he didn't do anything wrong. So thanks Dogwood, you truly solidified my decision to not come here EVER AGAIN. I've never been disrespected personally until you treated my cousin like shit. I stopped coming here previously because I couldn't walk in comfortable, after witnessing how mean your bouncers treat people. At some point, you have to realize Houston is a melting pot of all cultures. Money is money. You can establish your preferred customer base, without treating people like they're unworthy. read more

I have read your review multiple times before sitting down to respond. I'm not sure where to begin other than to say we utterly failed you on your visit to The Dogwood. I'm not an excuse type person nor is our company and excuse type company. The service and food that you received is unacceptable. My two partners and I started in this business at the bottom rungs of our industry and our company has been built on giving great service. Period. We obviously didn't do that here and there is no way to come back from that. We preach multiple times that food is sub par sometimes, that some people won't like the vibe of a bar but great service is easy to give and it should be given every time. I have addressed all issues with the appropriate people, including Jeremy and Corey. Our food is something that we are passionate about and will continue to do what it takes to offer a great product with each plate.
