It all depends on your tastes, of course. For some, it's just fine. Me, I like food made with real ingredients. When I asked for cream for my coffee, I got "Koffee Buddy," made with hydrogenated soybean oil and corn syrup solids. I asked for butter and got "Whipped Spread" with ~ you guessed it ~ hydrogenated soybean oil. Maybe that's all good with you, in which case go on over. It's not my kinda food though, so I'll pass. Stopped in for some breakfast.. seat yourself quaint place. Freindlyish staff. My husband and I both got 2 eggs over medium, hash browns, bacon and biscuits. Came out nice and hot but his eggs were under cooked mine were over cooked... the biscuits ummmmm not the greatest and wouldn't order them again. I mean overall it was okay and would stop I again but remember to keep my hope's low. read more

The Dixie Pig is, without a doubt, the best breakfast spot in Abilene. Keep in mind that they're cash only, so make sure you hit an ATM before your visit. But that's the only downside I can think of. They have the best damn biscuits and gravy I've eaten in my entire life, the pancakes are fluffy and delicious, and the service is always friendly and comfy. If you're looking for an old school diner in Abilene, then this is the place to be. The historic Dixie Pig has been serving up comfort food at its best for the last 80 years, and I sure hope they'll keep it up for the next 80 years too. What is it about this place that people like? Are people nuts? I've been there twice in the last few years, and both times were awful. Service with a grimace--and not in the cute, crusty diner waitress way, the mean, snippy, I -hate-your-guts way. Food is bland and terrible-- allow me to describe my last meal there: Scrambled eggs so leathery it was like they had been left out in the sun and then scraped off the sidewalk and chopped up with a fork. Fatty, bland sausage. Stiff pancakes that had been so overcooked they wouldn't even absorb syrup. Non-dairy creamer--is milk available? Nope. Coffee that tastes like soaked cardboard. Sticky floor in bathroom. Surly, toothless owner. Oh! And the total for my little snack? ELEVEN DOLLARS. With coffee, tax, and tip. I would rather sneak into a nursing home and grab a biscuit off a patient's plate than EVER eat at this nasty excuse for a diner again. Life is too short. read more

So I had breakfast here the other day based on all the good reviews and was expecting amazing food. Needless to say I was a bit disappointed. I sat up on the bar where I could watch the food getting prepped and was a little disgusted when I saw the cooks put the bacon and sausage on the plates with their BARE hands...yuck, why weren't they wearing gloves?!? When our food came there was nothing overly special about it. I got hasbrowns, an egg, a pancake, and biscuit and gravy. Egg and hasbrowns were fine, the pancake was really heavy, not light and fluffy, and I was expecting a sausage gravy with my biscuit but it was just white gravy. If you want a mediocre breakfast go here but you could probably make tastier food at home without someone else's germs on it. read more

You know those places where the breakfast comes out looking so perfect, you know they've just nuked it? This is not that place. It's obvious the food is cooked to order and that's good. The coffee was good, the bacon was thick and as crispy as thick bacon can be, the eggs were cooked as ordered and fine, the biscuit and gravy were average, but not bad, and service was friendly and efficient. Decor is diner and we do not have high expectations. But...despite butter and a flood of syrup, the pancakes were dry...so dry my husband didn't finish them. What?! Trust me, that's huge. Hash browns could have used a little more time on the griddle. Lots of older locals seated at the bar and that adds to the ambience. But next time we're in town we'll try another place. read more

We came here for breakfast after hearing good reviews about it. We won't be coming back here again. It wasn't very good at all. My hash browns didn't taste cooked (I couldn't even eat them), I barely received any eggs and the pancakes didn't taste so great either. The bacon was super burnt as well. The waitress also didn't seem too pleasant. This place has been here a long time but there are way better options for breakfast. I can make better breakfast at home. read more

This is a classic diner serving classic diner fare. Nothing fancy here, but solid dishes, quick service, and polite staff. Giving the Dixie Pig a high 3/low 4. Went with my husband this past weekend for a late breakfast. Was expecting to wait for a table, but was pleasantly surprised to find some open tables available! Loved the fact that almost every item (if not all of them) are under $10.00. Just your basic breakfast goodness - eggs, bacon, omelets, etc. I split pancakes and an omelet with my husband (along with hashbrowns, bacon, and biscuits/gravy) and we gave the food a thumbs up! Just good ol' down home cookin'. I would definitely say we would go back - for the price of the food, it was worth it. Don't forget to take cash!! read more

This is our family's favorite for breakfast. The bacon is thick (not microwaved) and biscuits are the best in town. They will make hash browns crispy if you ask. Fast and friendly service. Their lunch special is good too. Yummy rolls, chicken fried steak mashed potatoes or fried okra, desert and tea. They only take cash or check and close at 2.
