The breakfast plate with 2 fried eggs, country ham and hashbrowns. It was fantastic!

The food was hot and delicious, the service was fast and friendly. It's like stepping back in time, to an old fashion diner.

    Let's eat!

Eleven years since I reviewed this place? I guess it's time for an update. Guess what? NOTHING has changed! I'm serious! LOL! Barbara and her family still run it. Same tables, same chairs. Same great food! It's truly Abilene's only old style diner. I've been coming here at least 53 years, maybe longer. When I was young and pouring concrete with my dad, we would leave the job every afternoon and come here for coffee. When I started working for Jack, same thing. Coffee every afternoon. Dixie Pig is THE place for breakfast or a lunch special. Today I had chicken fry, green beans, jalapeno corn, a huge roll, and dessert, for $10. Heck of a deal. But it's cash or check only. Don't forget! Unfortunately, like me, the Dixie Pig is getting really old. I hope younger family, or a new owner continues this Abilene tradition. As long as it's open, I'll keep coming! Thanks Dixie Pig!

Excellent breakfast this morning. Great local eatery, Highly Recommended!!!

Great breakfast joint, heard several suggestions to check it out and they were all correct. Local old style eatery that is cash ONLY pic is my selection and it was all GREAT!!!

The wife and I decided to come here for breakfast. When you walk in the atmosphere gives you the hometown cafe vibe. It's relaxed and has the hometown feel. The entire restaurant decor is pigs. It's great, the wife loves the set up. The waitress was extremely friendly and immediately acknowledged that we were there and told us to sit anywhere. Once seated she immediately brought us menu's and took our drink order. We both had breakfast. The wife had one egg over medium with bacon, hash browns and toast. I had 2 eggs over medium, 3 strips of crispy bacon, hash browns, toast and a side of one biscuit with gravy. Food came out fast, hot and just the way we ordered it. Food taste was amazing. One of the best breakfasts I've had in a long time eating out somewhere. We will definitely eat here again. You can't find a restaurant with a family hometown atmosphere. They only take cash no credit cards but there is an ATM close by. If you haven't tried this place, man are you missing out. Plus they serve breakfast all day if that's what you want. We will definitely eat here again and again.

2 egg breakfast special is where it's at.

This place is amazing, and sitting at the fro t counter is even better. Michelle and Joanne are definitely the servers I go to. I just moved here recently from Florida and somehow came across this place. Service is great, with some form of humor in it. Everyone k owns everyone and I love it. Their breakfast and lunch specials are great along with their prices.

This will be a short review, vastly different than my usual long-winded speeches. LOL!!! Dixie Pig has been an Abilene foundation for over 70 years. It is truly a diner/dive type of place. U walk in and have a seat wherever an open table happens to be. A cranky waitress comes over and takes your order and in a few minutes you have some great breakfast food. Menu is made up of your classic breakfast dishes from egg plates, to biscuits and gravy, to pancakes and omelettes. All of it was tasty and well prepared. TAKE NOTICE however, it is cash or check ONLY. Don't get caught having to do dishes.

    Barbar the owner!

A true Abilene staple. 90 years with family running most of the business include a 11 year old great granddaughter running the cashier. Food was very culturistic of the city and the name "Dixie" with no negative connotations here. No fruit for your oatmeal but it's still fun to ask. Glad we got recommended here. Price is very reasonable. Enjoy!

Pancake, eggs, bacon and hash brown well!

I Saw this little spot on my Saturday routined route. They only take cash and checks, so please be prepared to have either of those!!. I sat at the counter, because it was a wait for any other spot in the building! The staff was some of the absolutely friendliest people I've met in Texas! Customer service is a winner!! It was so good I came back a second time before writing this review! My waitress was Michelle! She was exceptionally nice and hospitable! I had the pancake, bacon and eggs! Tasty. With a side hash brown... I should have left it off, because it was way too greasy! The second meal I had a breakfast burrito with their home made salsa and a side homemade biscuit. Both were pretty tasty. It was super packed both times! The most impressive moment of my first experience was seeing the owner, I think her name is Betty if I my memory serves me correctly (which a fun fact is in its entire existence the place has only had 2 owners) was pitching in from taking orders, busting tables, serving customers. That keeps customers coming back. It's a great little family own local restaurant if you are in the area. You should try! Thanks Chris for the fun facts!

Pancake was good and bacon was just the way she liked it

Best breakfast in Abilene. Only thing that keeps them from earning a 5th star is they are a cash only establishment.

Check or cash only! It's 2015, think it's bout time to start accepting CC/Debit cards. Quit being stubborn.

Love this place. Try to go early for breakfast. This place is so popular you may not find a place to park. Always good lunches as well.

I usually avoid going through Abilene but when I saw Grain Theory pop up on an online search, I was sufficiently hungry and needing a rest so I decided to take a different route and headed to downtown Abilene. I was pleasantly surprised at the cute downtown, even more excited to find a fashionable brewery with good food and chill vibes after a long day of driving. I had dinner in the outdoor area as the sun set, and this was a lovely way wrap my day.

Located on the second story of a beautiful building in downtown Abilene sits Grain Theory, a brewpub and coffee shop towering over the city. It is a mixed indoor-outdoor space with plenty of shaded outdoor and cooled indoor seating. Looking at their tap list, my girlfriend and I were impressed by their unique beers to try. I started with the Strawberry Peach Tonic (Fruited Hard Seltzer) and she had a Bella Rose (Rosé IPA). Both were served in cool glasses, with mine being tall and skinny and hers being almost like a wine glass. Shocking to nobody, mine was quite fruity while her Rosé IPA was hoppy with an underlying rosé flavor. Next, I ordered their Oktoberfest (German Märzen) and she had their Season's End (Belgian Dubbel). She described her drink as tasting like a Biscoff cookie. My Oktoberfest was quite malty, and I was a big fan. To close, we both ordered their Luscent (Belgian Table Beer) because small beers are back in fashion and I wanted to try it. It was obviously very light but still had a good flavor that was very bready. Nice and easy to close out our drinks with. They also have food and coffee that we didn't try, but the food looked sensational from what we saw others eating. They also have plenty of board games and card games to play while you're at the brewery and many beers available to take to-go. My only minor complaint is the lack of TVs in the brewery. Maybe it's a purposeful decision, but Texas Tech was playing football, and it would be a great place to watch the game. The bartenders are very friendly and willing to let you try and sample as many beers as you need to make your decision. Grain Theory feels like the kind of place every small Texas city wishes it had. I am very excited to come back here and try more beers, especially with how excellent the space is. RIYL: Cool-shaped beer glasses or a rooftop bar
