This…read morewas the first official dinner out I've had since the COVID pandemic started - meaning my first dinner out in a year and a half!! To say that my expectations were high is an understatement - I mean, imagine going out for dinner again after so much lockdown misery (folks, I came here from Ottawa). Let me repeat for emphasis: my expectations were very high. Aaaand, I was not disappointed! In fact, maybe this was the best place I could have possibly gone for my reintroduction into foodie society. We sat on the front patio, because I felt safer outdoors, and it was entirely pleasant. Fredericton is not inundated with smokers on the sidewalks like larger cities are, so no problems there. Traffic is low key on Wednesday evenings, which is when we went. We did make a reservation, though, and it's good that we did because it filled up pretty quickly at dinner hour. The tables were well spaced apart and some had full plastic curtain separation, so they take their restrictions seriously. I was pleased. For appies, we had shaved beef (delish) and cauliflower tacos (so good). For my main, I had the duck leg, which was pure bliss with every bite. The beans it came with could have been a bit more thoroughly done, but I was more obsessed with the meat than anything else on the plate. If you like crispy skin and salty meat, this is for you. My partner had the tender loin steak, which was done to perfection, and my son had the burger and fries, which was full on gourmet goodness. Also, they had no qualms about turning every cocktail I wanted into a virgin (no booze for me since COVID mowed me down over a year ago). Pretty good, standard selection of local beer on tap to meet every need. The service was quite wonderful. The meal took just slightly longer than usual to arrive so our appies were offered free! We were just glad to be out, so that wasn't necessary but we really appreciated it nonetheless. We'll be back for sure!

I love the Cabin! My family has been going here since my dad was in high school in the '60s!…read more It's a great little diner with retro decor (including jukeboxes at the booths along the walls that actually play in the diner) that serves solid, homestyle food. If you're looking for comfort food, this is a great place to find it. I almost always get breakfast, often the Big Fella (though sometimes I need to split it since it's HUGE), but the hot turkey is also a favourite. My mom often gets their bread pudding and my dad swears by the hot hamburger. As far as seating, there are maybe 6-7 booths that seat four along two walls, with tables seating ~4 people in the middle row (maybe 3-4 tables) and stools at the counter. If you enjoy watching cooks, sit near or at the counter and you can see right into the kitchen! I recommend not going right at lunchtime since when it's busy parking can be a bit tough. There's parking for a few cars in front of the building, more behind the building and you can park along the road too. It can be a little tough to turn around out back if all of the spots are filled though. If you love diners, comfort food, breakfast or jukeboxes, you NEED to stop in!

The food was very good. We enjoy the Italian Steak Harvest bowl and Cilantro Lime rice bowl with shrimp. Both were delicious and left us feeling comfortably full with energy to continuing driving. The shrimp was marinated in the cilantro bowl and the dressing has a perfect balance of cilantro and lime. The cilantro blends in and does not overpower the bowl. The roasted pumpkin seeds and red cabbage added nice crunch to the bowl. The steak was cooked perfect and was cut into bite sized pieces before being cooked.
