Up, however is a welcome change on the drinking scene, and fills a gaping hole in the previously pub-dominated nightlife sector. Decor: awesome -upstairs above the hugely successful Garrison on Queen St, tasteful and subtle lounge-bar feel. Wine: GREAT list, most good global regions represented very well, some interesting grapes, and nice to see HIGH quality Canadian bottles. Prices are really impressively reasonable for such good wine, and potentially pretentious surroundings ;-) Service: Knowledgeable and very friendly. DEFINITELY one for my 'must-do' list each time I'm in town!

Seating about 20-30 people, this wine bar has a lot to offer. Great selection of wine both by the bottle and by the glass, easily broken down by taste profile to make choosing easier; good selection of traditional cocktails, beers, tequilas and scotch's. Although one can't order food from downstairs, they do offer great little cheese plates and meat trays that are ready to go on demand. We were there on a Wednesday night, which just happens to be their tasting night... Although I wasn't in the "mood" for a beer tasting, having the owner cotinuosly bring us a little sampler of the beers being offered made it hard to resist. We had a bottle of wine and a couple cocktails and ended up with a cheese plate and meat tray before the night was over. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. You can be sure that this will be a regular spot when I am in Fredericton on business in the future.

You can't beat being right on the main street *and* right on the water, which you can see from a few different viewpoints. When you enter at street level it's a shop, with wine and a selection of vintage cookbooks for sale. There's a big open room with comfy chairs and huge windows that look right out over the harbor, which I can imagine being a cozy vantage point in the fall or winter. In summer the main action is actually downstairs--yes, that steep staircase is the right direction--where there's a bar and more tables, a corner for musicians, and a wonderful outdoor bar setup where you can perch on a stool and gaze right out at the water. And you're not going to want to leave, because friendly owner Laura knows her stuff and will help you find the absolutely *perfect* glass of wine from an inventive selection of bottles and glasses, as well as daily specials like sangria. I appreciate how she asked what I like and then came up with something I hadn't had before that was delicious. You can nosh on charcuterie boards, olives, quiche, chocolate, and other little snacks like that, which to my mind = dinner, so why go anywhere else? In the two nights I was there I enjoyed chatting with both locals and visitors, and quite honestly I'd return to Eastport just to spend more time at Phoenix. It's not to be missed!

The patatas bravas are always excellent, same is to be said of the tuna tartar or ceviche, whichever they have on the menu. I don't think I have ever eaten a plate that I did not like. I have my favourites, as one does, but everything that I have tried truly amuses my bouche. Servers are always punctual. I have never felt I have waited long for any plate or drink. The wine selection is above satisfactory, and they shake up a mean cocktail for those who prefer luscious tastes of liquor. They have a good selection of beer, if memory serves me correctly, but wine is much better suited for the food they serve. The whole restaurant is very nice. It was once a house that was converted to its current form. If you are lucky enough to be seated at the outside table with the fireplace, you are definitely in the best seats in the house. The view on the patio is stunning, as you gaze into the Passamaqoddy Bay. It is not always possible to get a reservation there, as it is rightfully seen as the pearl of the oyster that is the Saint Andrews food scene.

This was our only option before a 2 1/2 hour drive to Halifax. The service was good. Our server was very nice. But the food was... mediocre. The salad dressing came in little Kraft packets. The meals came with two veggie sides and mashed potatoes. The veggies -- carrots and parsnips -- tasted either canned or boiled or both. The mashed potatoes were clearly instant. I can't remember the last time I went to a restaurant and had food that was lower quality than I make in my own kitchen. The scallops were decent which was the only consolation as we had been looking forward to scallops from Digby since before our trip. The restaurant could also use a refresh. The inside looks like it's 1986. The air conditioning was also messed up and the inside of the restaurant was so cold I had to go get a long sleeved shirt from the car. And I am never cold. I rarely leave bad reviews, but I had to tell my honest opinion. I didn't even take pictures of our food which goes to show how disappointed I was.
