However, for $200+ per person, I was disappointed in the food, seating and limited types of acrobatics in the show. The dinner seating was very very cramped, not how it looked to me on the seating chart. (The general admission seating with no dinner looked more comfortable!) I could barely get into my chair between the two people next to me. The chairs were tall hardwood barstools with no back, which were very uncomfortable. The beef and polenta dinner tasted like dog food out of a can! I could not eat it, although some people did. The dessert was served in a stale ice cream cone. Only water was included with the expensive meal; drinks were extra and expensive. The circus consisted mostly of Ariel acrobatics, risqué costumes, some nudity, and a little bit of dramatic story telling in between. As I said, the band was excellent, although the vocals could have been more prominent in the sound mix. Sorry, I really wanted to support this kind of live theater and they did make a good effort, but it was too expensive and it just fell short.

We decided to go for Devil Wears Prada 2 and should have known things were off when arriving and saw that the security gate was broken and we had to duck under it to get inside. Okay for us, but would have been difficult for anyone with physical ailments. We then learned that the bar doesn't open until 5, but not to worry because we could order drinks from our seats. When we arrived to our theater we were greeted and offered a glass of water. All seemed okay until they informed us that their popcorn machine was broken and there was no popcorn! My mouth dropped as the huge tins of popcorn are the main reason I loved Alamo! Overall the movie was good and we ordered a subpar pizza instead, but it wasn't quite worth going to the movies without popcorn. They offered us a voucher but I'll call ahead to ensure the popcorn machine is working next time.

Be aware regarding inconsistent enforcement of entry policies…read more It appears that some staff members allow customers to enter for movies after a certain time, while others strictly enforce a cutoff like the male staff on a power trip and who "has been working here for 5 years" This lack of consistency creates confusion and sets conflicting expectations for customers. The staff explained how its written online in the terms and conditions and then pointed to an area in the small ticketing booth. Customers purchase tickets online and are unlikely to review detailed terms presented in small print. Relying solely on this form of communication is insufficient, especially when enforcement varies between staff. If this policy is to be enforced, it should be communicated clearly and applied consistently across all staff members. And way more visible in the entrance area and walls of the theatre.

However, $11 for a few hours or parking wasn't bad considering the ease of finding a space and proximity to the theater. It was nice to see security (SFPD) at the front door. The theater's facilities feel outdated compared to other venues out there. Its age is very apparent. The old, creaky cloth seats were a quite distracting when anyone around you moved a bit. The movie screen and sound system were fine though. Consessions - the popcorn was just OK. 1/2 of our large container was just crumbs. Perhaps they scooped from the bottom? The sugar-free ginger ale was empty at one of the self-serve soda machines. Despite all this, it was still good to be at the historic AMC Kabuki 8 theater which has been around for over 50-60 years. It'a always fun to be in Japantown San Francisco!

I love the location of this theater because it is in the heart of Jtown and surrounded by yummy food and fun stores. There is also street parking around the neighborhood and a decent parking garage.

He was super patient and willing to hop on a call to discuss my vision, as well as provide suggestions on how to make it even better. He also invited me out to watch a show prior to booking with him! When I met him in person, I was captivated by the acts and how approachable Andrew was. He's so friendly and just easy to talk to. He also puts on a great show. I was entertained the whole time and there wasn't a dull moment. His theater is cozy, but thoughtfully decorated. I also like how the front part is a candy shop and there's a "hidden" door leading to the actual performance area. The venue is also BYOB. We started planning the surprise party many, many months in advance and Andrew was great at communicating and keeping me in the loop. He even helped coordinate the guests and got them into position while I was leading the guest of honor to the venue. In addition, Andrew offered to help oversee the catering orders, but I ended up deciding to handle that on my own (with the help of a couple friends). The big day finally came and went and my partner was delighted by all the tricks. Andrew graciously gifted us bags of candy and also supplied some additional snacks (chips and peanut m&ms). The ONLY thing I missed compared to the initial performance was the secret cocktail trick (which I think my group would have absolutely died over). If you're thinking about checking out a magic show, don't sleep on The Magic Patio. You'll be in for quite the treat!

But it's very action-packed and fast-paced. - Half the fun is Andrew's showmanship, which is very San Francisco. - All the tricks were great; there were no duds. One of the tricks, with a "magic cocktail shaker", stunned everyone. - There is a lot of audience participation; with a small audience, about half the crowd participated. Similar to The Illusionist, The crowd really bonded over the communal engagement. - It's BYOB, and they provide glasses. A lot of people brought wine and beer, and it was awesome. - There is a pinball machine set to free play in back; check that out before the show.

My second visit was for Hocus Pocus, and it didn't live up to the first. The drinks tasted watered down, the food was mediocre, and the dessert was completely flavorless. My third experience was supposed to be The Nightmare Before Christmas, but it was canceled and I was given a code for a future film. I used that code for Beauty and the Beast and was so excited--only to receive another cancellation email. Since this was the second movie that got canceled, I didn't feel comfortable taking yet another code, so I requested a refund instead. It's now been over two months, and I still haven't received it. Don't get me wrong--as a Disney lover, I think this concept is such a fun idea. But it feels like it may have run its course. For the price, I expected a lot more consistency in both quality and communication. Ironically, my best experience was Ratatouille, but I had to go to LA to see it because it wasn't offered in my area at that time. Overall, it can be a once-in-a-lifetime kind of experience--just make sure the event is actually delivering what you're paying for.

They sent out a generic email stating that I could reschedule or get a refund. For over a month I tried to be patient but all my calls and emails got ignored (all calls go to their voicemail) . These tickets are expensive and it's frustrating that they're taking advantage of people's hard earned money and they're not being honest. Their lack of transparency is really upsetting. It seems this is something that has been happening in different cities and if you don't believe me, look at all the negative reviews online. (Yelp, social media, TikTok). I did eventually reach out to my bank to dispute the charges and luckily they were able to assist me. Please save yourself the headache (and money) and use that instead to treat yourself to a nice dinner and a show somewhere else.

Her Rebel Highness is a fantastic group of amazing singers, who are also trained dancers. I was deeply enchanted by their stunning costumes as well! They delivered a truly unique blend of pop and classical music, while busting out of the box to incorporate themes related to empowering women. Which I can definitely get behind. I was surprised to see that their audience was a wide a range as I could imagine, from little girls who love the princess theme and costumes, to drag queens who love it for the same reason! But I also met people who were there to see their serious vocal technique and inventive tonal blending. I found Her Rebel Highness to be a lavish, funny and really heart warming group. I think this they are destined to become a Bay Area Treasure.

But since the company was only renting the venue, and it wasn't being organized and run by the venue itself, I figured it'd be ok. Drinks were expensive: $16 for a beer and a Tanq n' Tonic. The atmosphere before and during most of the show was kinda dead. The actor playing Henry Barnes tried to raise the energy of the audience, but there just weren't enough people (and the people that were there were all middle-aged and older, and not inclined to be very lively). My boyfriend and I got discount tickets through my membership with Theatre Bay Area. The tickets were Earl/Countess tickets (normally $65e) and were said to include VIP seating, complimentary "regal" hors d'oeurves, dessert, 1st in line for photo ops after and a "royal" souvenir. But there was no VIP seating that I could locate. The hors d'oeurves were open to anyone, no matter how much you paid for your ticket. They were nothing special, however - bite sized puff pastries with sausages in them, or a little bit of herb spread on top, little pieces of toast topped with shrimp, and frosted grapes; The dessert was flat shortbread cookies shaped like crowns, topped with a lot of hard frosting and sprinkles. They seemed like something that you'd buy at Safeway. We didn't stay for the photo op or the souvenir. The show itself was an artsy show - the kind of performance created by artists - meant to display the art forms (in this case, dance and music) rather than tell an engaging story. Not the kind of show that I was expecting, but I was able to appreciate the talented voices and fun costumes.
