This is the murder mystery dinner, where the guests are part of the show and has to solve who the killer is. The dinner was actually good. The roasted chicken was the best. It was soft and tender. The salmon was a little fishy but very tender. The vegetarian dish was stuffed tortellini. The dessert was a tasty taramisu. The event takes place in one of the ballrooms at a nice hotel in downtown SF. The staff were all very friendly and attentive. My mom and I had an awesome time at The Dinner Detective. We were able to score tickets for "Dirty Money" for $103 including tax by perhaps booking around 2 days before the show - they had a "limited discount admission". Booking was super easy and I thought they provided a lot of helpful details in the emails they sent, for example parking prices, a hint at what the game would be about, etc. I thought all of the actors did a fantastic job throughout the night. The fake participant at my table did a very convincing job at pretending they were a participant and only one very small thing had tipped me off prior to bigger hints that they weren't a real participant, but no spoilers! The show was adequately silly, interesting, and kept moving. Sometimes, random audience members would be called to participate, but it was all in good fun. I really hope the actors had as much fun as the audience. There was also a prize for the top sleuth, so write quickly! We also actually really enjoyed the food! My mom and I both ordered the fish - it was a very tasty roast salmon with vegetables. We heard from the others at our table that the chicken was pretty salty and some people couldn't finish it. The tiramisu was also a pretty huge chunk and delicious. Not too sweet. The dinner was at the beautiful Marker Hotel. We definitely enjoyed taking photos in the hotel before/after the game. Also they had clean bathrooms. For parking, while they do provide parking prices at the hotel, mom and I were able to score cheaper parking elsewhere by booking on ParkWhiz. Overall, I would highly recommend checking it out at least once if you're curious what a murder mystery dinner may be like. It must have stuck in her head because she just surprised my daughter and myself with with a surprise dinner for the 3 of us. All I can recommend is go there now get your tickets early and with the holidays coming get Is them real early. As you come in to the hotel at 1st it's the LA Meridian. It's on the 2nd floor in San Francisco.. But look for other locations around the Bay area this isn't their only venue. But we took the elevator up and came in and were immediately greeted by a hostess.. We were on time but many guests had already arrived early like us. We were seated immediately at our table. While we were setting up and introducing ourselves to a commentator it's too late common table which was shared with people we didn't kno a man came up and introduced himself douche himself as the chief detective. We knew that it didn't start once you, it began. It began when you entered the dining area. Appropriate here to quote Sherlock Holmes "something was afoot." At this point I already knew that I needed to conduct myself as a detective and record everything that seemed unusual or out of place. That would include people I suspect as actors people at my table and people in the room. This is where I'm not going to give you any more information. I want you to have the opportunity of your own self discovery. In this Environment I had so much fun much fun sharing and collecting information with the people at the table. But they will warn you, don't trust everyone. And they were right. Before during and after the meal there are a couple breaks to allow you to eat and converse but it goes quickly. The the acting crew which was amazing was able to captivate your attention and discuss the murder scene with the room letting you decide who you think the murderer was. The way everything was integrated it was a great way to to have a wonderful meal you'll and enjoy myself with the entertainment. I have to say that I personally guessed who done it. (pats self on back). Bravo to our actors and all the info they must weave to complete the story. Lots of laughs. And the audience was part of the show. Special mention to the cast. Terrible. We paid an exorbitant fee to organize a private dinner for a friend's bday. We had to pay for a private room, a lot more per head per person for dinner, as well as a private bar. We did all of this to set up the space and the actors were absolutely horrible. The main "detective" didn't know his lines and everyone in the audience was so confused because there was no context provided there is no story. I was really shocked at how bad it was. Save your money if you're planning and instead just go to a nice dinner because the only real highlight was that the food was good. read more

They had lots of fun, it was entertaining and engaging, and they were able to figure out the mystery although they did not win as they did not have all the justification details in place. My family and I went here last night for my 18th birthday. My family and I have done another mystery dinner at a different location and those were super fun. I will say I enjoyed my evening, however I was very excited for the food. When it was brought out it was quite small. Everyone at my table (10 total guests) concluded we were all still hungry. It was a small scoop of mash potato's, maybe 5 asparagus, and 1 chicken breast that was also small. The show itself was funny but more comedy than trying to figure out the murder. The clues were all online which many quests were having difficulty accessing. Because of it being digital, reading the clues were difficult. However those were not necessary because of how clear the actual murderer was. Walking around sitting at different tables, disappearing mid-show. Because I had fun I would give it 3 stars, but if you do decide to go with this eat before! I do not think it was worth the $120 price point. I'm pretty disappointed. read more

Like other reviewers said, I would expect a well-regarded hotel like Omni to serve better food, especially in a foodie city like San Francisco. Colleague booked a private event with The Dinner Detective at the Le Meridian, SF quoted as $109pp, contract was written for ~$125pp. When all was said and done paid ~$115pp... (...plus "Actor" gratuity...) Arranged hotel bar set up and contemplated hosted vs no host bar. Decided to provide 1 hosted drink pp as hotel staff told me that it "wouldn't be too expensive"; thinking okay maybe $10...$15 tops per drink... When all was said and done, paid approximately $23/drink! (which were mediocre at best). Paid hotel set-up fee, 24% Service charges PLUS cost of the drinks... Overall...entertaining show in a small hotel conference room with typical hotel/wedding menu with arranged drinks. Spent ~$139pp which in retrospect could have been utilized better on another venue... The $90pp price for regular tickets may be worth it, but a private event... ‍ read more

The show was good! Food mediocre and the customer service is terrible!! The show is non-refundable. I had 6 people that could not attend the non refundable show which was fine, but when I asked for the other 6 meals to be bagged up to go... I was asked to sign a liability waiver and then denied the food!! I was forced to give almost $600 away in food!! I would NEVER, EVER recommend this place to anyone!! First off; Wasn't expecting the food to be incredible. But, then again, you don't go to a dinner show for the food. However, the food really wasn't that bad! Salad and bread was fine, and my friends enjoyed their entrees. I had the veggie dish, which was, unfortunately, not good. It was basically flavorless pasta in broth. Dessert was great, and the service was good too. The show was always entertaining and never lagged. The plot of the show never really came together, but it was so funny and intriguing that it didn't matter. My friends and I solved the crime, which made the night all the more enjoyable. My service dog came with me, and she ended up being a suspect! She was interviewed by the detectives and everyone had a good laugh. We had a last minute change of venue that we weren't notified of until we arrived. This new venue was a very echoy ballroom and everyone at our table couldn't hear anything. We asked if the actors could spin around and bounce the sound over to us more. It never really happened. We spent the whole performance catching only a few words. Couldn't get the suspect names, answers, what the actors were saying. When I reached out to ask if we can get another chance to go or at least get our money back... This dinner show is worth trying out. Actors were extremely entertaining with some cheesy lines. The detectives kept the suspense going. They provided clues. They had guests participating. At the end of dinner, guest fill out a form of whom they think committed the crime. (majority of us had it wrong). Food was delicious. I highly recommend booking this show. read more

Took our parents for their anniversary and we all loved it. It was a family atmosphere with nothing inappropriate. We were all trying to figure out who the murderer was and all got into it. You get to know the people at your table and in the room. The actors were funny and interactive with the audience. The murderer could be anyone at the tables, so that was a cool spin on murder mysteries. The food was great! Started with salad and bread, then had chicken, then strawberry dessert and coffee. Such a fun time! My party and I all enjoyed ourselves from beginning to end. We found ourselves laughing all night, and the murder mystery was very intriguing--kept us thinking and looking forward to the next scene and clue. My main dish ravioli was nothing but Boiled pasta and vegetables in water? I have never seen pasta serverd like that. Chocolate Mousse was good. Lets talk about the show itself. Very cheesy overall. Other than the two detectives, you don't know who are the show's actors and who are just people from the crowd getting roped into coming up to the front. You don't know who you're supposed to focus on. The questions detectives were asking is of zero substance.. does not give you clues of what so ever.. The clues only just "maybe" hint at who the killer is. But that's a stretch. There's a murder at the beginning of the show, and the first clues suppose to start to lead you down that path. But then the next two sets of clues don't really add up. We all had confused looks on our faces most of the time. I would not recommend this show to anyone. read more

I really enjoyed the Dinner Detective. We went for a friend's birthday and we all had a good time including making up a fake name. The actors were good and it was all a little campy. One of the most interesting things was how much the audience got into it with going around and investigating the crime. There were some surprises as people I thought were audience members turned out to be actors. Of course I enjoyed it even more as I figured out who committed the crimes.
