Wow! This place was absolutely amazing! They have a very unique vibe going on in this place and I like it a lot. It's very inviting and also cool in a way that's hard to describe. Everyone was so super friendly and welcoming that I knew I had come to the right place as soon as I walked in. While I was expecting "normal diner food" I was pleasantly surprised by the very unique dishes they had to offer. There were so many great options that it was hard to decide which I would go with. Luckily I chose the chicken n biscuits with spicy sauce added. It was amazing! The combination of all these different flavors turned out to be a perfect dish. Each bite was bittersweet because it was so delicious yet each one meant the meal was coming to an end. Next time I am anywhere near the Quad Cities, I will definitely be back! I'm a breakfast food fanatic, so believe me when I tell you The Diner is a hidden gem in the Quad Cities area!! They were busy on a Saturday morning, but we were still seated quickly and had great service. I ordered the Denver skillet, which came with the option of toast or a pancake. YES, a pancake! I still can't get over what a great idea this is, as I can never choose between sweet and savory breakfast. The Diner, please never change. The skillet was delicious, and my scrambled eggs came out perfect. As you can see from the pictures, the portions are very generous. Best of all, my blueberry pancake was light, fluffy, and totally amazing. It was a little loud indoors, but not overwhelmingly so. I wish I could have tried this place, but sadly after an hour and 15 minute wait we had to leave. Reasoning as to why we had to wait so long was due to "the kitchen being backed up". That was the reason given after already 30 minutes of waiting.... Their whole patio and a handful of tables inside were open at this point. This used to be a great place. My daughter and I went there several months ago and the staff was so loud we could hardly hear each other. Yes, the staff. Fast forward to today. Again I went with my daughters. Staff was again loud and obnoxious. Burger was also very dry. Vegetarian burgers are listed as an available option but when I ordered this the waitress said she never heard of anyone ordering such a thing. A few minutes later she returns to tell me they just sold out of them. Sure they did. Your money is best spent elsewhere. read more

I cannot recommend the Diner enough! My favorite place to bring weekend guests for brunch. I also love to stop here after hitting the farmers market. I love the eclectic decor and vibe along with the sunny patio over looking the Mississippi River. Service is always excellent once you are seated, but expect a wait if you come on a weekend. They do have bar seating so you may be able to squeeze in more quickly with a small party. Now let's talk food! I feel it's hard to find a brunch spot that does both food AND drinks well, this place hits the mark for me. They have the largest list of mimosa flavors I've ever been offered and do flights, along with other both seasonal and year around boozie breakfast beverages. I'll be honest though, it's food that keeps me coming back. I normally opt for a skillet (country fried steak, jalapeño and sweet potato, Denver, whatever I'm in the mood for!) One Sunday however I branched out and opted for the brunch burger - holy cow, amazing decision! A juicy burger, thick bacon, melty cheese, a fried egg, sandwiched between 2 pieces of bourbon glazed French toast plus a side of sweet potato tots. The manager was not good. Avoiding the tables that were waiting so long and then AFTER they got their meals she would stop and say "all Is good? Great" and literally run away. No one even had time to respond to her. Other tables were actually making jokes about it. she was terrible at her job. She approached this poorly and if handled correctly it would have been a better experience and we all could have more sympathetic to any dilemmas that occurred. Good place for groups of friends that like to turn up at a frenzied brunch and have a blast. Just not for me, that's all. Here's the rub: everytime you pay your bill, they ask if you want to "kiss the cook" which means tip the house. Each time that happens, they come out banging pots and pans and remind everyone about the option. The result was us basically getting begged for extra money 3 times during breakfast- because two people at other tables "kissed the cook" and then we got asked to do it. Back off. Came here on a Saturday morning around 10 AM. There was a 10-15 minute wait for 2 people which was to be expected. I liked that they texted you when your table was ready. It allowed us to kill the time at the farmers market right next door. When we got up to the restaurant (on the second floor) I really liked its eclectic design. Our waiter was very friendly/attentive. The food was also great; I've tried a lot of diners in the QC and overall the quality for the price here was one of the best. My only complaint was the wait time. For 2 meals we waited 30-35 minutes for the food to arrive. Sometimes that's understandable, but for the relatively simple dishes we ordered like eggs, toast, hash browns etc. we were a little surprised. In the QC on business and received a recommendation for The Diner. Simply put, this place is fabulous for a traditional Midwestern breakfast. Everything from basic bacon and eggs, to biscuits and gravy, to chicken and waffles. Big portions, reasonably priced. Staff is friendly, funny, and attentive. And they work together as a team to serve guests. Eclectic furnishings, and every coffee mug is different. Serves Bloody Mary's in Flintstone glasses.
