Absolutely everything was marvelous: My room was spacious, well-stocked, cozy, quiet and with a large bathroom; the bar and lounge/cafe on the ground floor offered a delicious menu--both full lunches and evening light fare--along with well-made drinks; the spacious breakfast room was a treat (think shakshuka, eggs Benedict, porridge, French toast); the staff, especially at the front desk, was courteous and considerate; and the spa, where I booked a lovely facial, was professional and relaxing. A special shout-out to the young man at the front desk who took care of all my requests, respected that I didn't want to be disturbed but was always available for a little chat when I emerged from my room. He helped to make my brief stay that much more enjoyable. The only negative comments I would make are that the carpet in my room needed cleaning or replacing. And I wasn't aware there was a rubber bath mat available upon request (perhaps it could be placed on the tub automatically), making climbing in and out of the tub to take a shower a bit precarious. Toasted ciabatta with thick slices of dried out roast beef and a few green lettuce leaves. No dressing at all. It was so dry I could only eat half. I asked for mustard they only had Dijon, I like Dijon, but not a whole ramakin of the stuff. The fries arrived late, piping hot, unsalted. No vinegar or ketchup. A glass of wine and two beers and I got no change from €55. Please guys do better. Food is easy. Service is about training. And food service is about selling.

We checked in smoothly, had a few moments to flop and prepare for the Medieval Feast in the neighboring Bunratty Castle. The room showed some signs of wear, but for the amount of time spent in our room it was just fine. We weren't able to sample the attached steak restaurant, but heard and read some fine reviews. Nearby, are some shops, The Bunratty Castle and Folk Park, and of course Durty Nelly's Pub. The Pub, I did visit for a Good Night Pint (read that review). In the morning, we were provided a filling breakfast buffet; including a wide variety to suit any appetite. I would definitely like to return for a another stay and have a bit more time to relax and see more of the area.

Best meal I had on the whole trip was from a hotel and I still think about that braised beef. Oh yeah, the view is pretty good if you get a waterside view room. Niall's skills in the kitchen are superb, I would highly recommend a dinner date or a simple stay-cation here. Ireland's beautiful green is due to the misty, rainy weather, so do take care and watch your step on external stairs or paths that sometimes become slick and mossy. Our 2-bedroom suite was accessible from just outside the main building - it would be perfect for a small family. Don't leave without having a sip of the famous Irish Gin and tonic made with The Pig's Elbow gin and tonic, delicious!
