We treveled to the teton area for our honeymoon and decided to hike the wildflower trail to the deck and take the gondola down. The real restaurant was not open at the time, only the little grab and go section. We got some beers and it was a beautiful view! The hike is A LOT if you're from sealevel/not acclimated yet. We were able to catch the deck on its last night of the season and what fun!!! We noticed some misinformation online about the gondola and what time to go, and wanted to provide a few clarifications to help others in the future. The gondola costs $40 per person if you take it before five pm. So even though the restaurant opens at 4:30, you'll have to pay the fee or get ready to wait in line. We got in line at 4:05 and were in the first ten or so. By the time the free rides kicked in at five, the long was really long. Pro tip - make a reservation at the restaurant and you basically get to jump the line. We noticed people coming up to the front, they would check their names on a list, and get to go right up. Also, the service at the deck was wonderful and everyone was really kind and attentive. The smoke from the wildfires was insane but it was still beautiful and a fun time. read more

The hack for The Deck Is to catch a 6:15pm or later gondola up the mountain. By then, everyone who crammed into line 45 minutes before the first free evening gondola has eaten their burgers, fries and beers and moved on. Or... if you want to eat early, grab a margarita at Cantina at gondola base well before 5pm and hang out in line for one of the first tables. What a stunning spot! Take the 4:30 pm free gondola from Teton Village up the mountain to make it for the Deck's happy hour 5-6 pm. Incredible views! Good to go early also to snag one of the prime tables!! Ordered the edamame and it was fantastic - a huge portion covered in sesame oil, lemon, sea salt and sesame seeds. Cheap for the amount of food! The drinks were excellent too - absolutely LOVED the jalapeño margarita and the happy hour draft beers was a great deal! If you do one thing in Jackson Hole in the summer, make it a hike to Surprise Lake. If you do two things, make the other a visit to The Deck. You get there via the the ski village gondola, which starts taking people up the mountain starting at 4:30, but get there early, especially if you're with a group, because a line starts forming around 4pm and there are a limited number of tables at the top. Relax as you get whisked up the ski mountain, and, once you're situated at a table, enjoy friendly service, surprisingly delicious cocktails, and really quality small plates while you take in the view of the surrounding valley. I recommend the portobello tempura fries (inhalable) and the edamame (best edamame I've had, coated with black sesame seeds), which were the only two dishes we tried. All the specialty cocktails were delicious (some found the margarita too sweet, but most of us loved it). According to the website, it's open Sunday - Friday. Better get there soon, because it closes for the season on September 9, 2011! Tip: Bring layers -- while it may be hot down in the valley, it can be 20 degrees cooler up top, especially if the sun plays hide and seek and a breeze is blowing. read more

Usually one of our favorite stops but big miss this time. Called to check they were open a week earlier than the website said they were supposed to be - confirmed. Paid $18 per person for gondola ride since we didn't plan to make reservations at the other restaurant only to find out they were not serving food yet at the Deck. Major false information. The grab and go was the only option and they stopped serving pizza at 5 so the options were deli wraps or salads dated made 3 days ago. Drinks you had to get at the bar in the other restaurant and staff were rude as was the hostess when we asked if it was possible to get a table. This just isn't the great place it used to be. At least the view is consistent. read more

This hidden thing-to-do in the Jackson area is amazing. If you get the chance to make it out to Teton Village or ride the Tram to get a view of the Tetons, it is awesome... But, a little secret: you get a free Gondola ride when you head up to the eateries and hangouts up at the top of the ski resort during the summer. The Gondola ride is a 15 minute ride up with a beautiful view of the Tetons. The Deck is a limited-seating, relaxed little spot that is only outdoors. it has a happy hour that runs in the brief window between 4:30-6. Get in the Gondola line early, and be prepared to pound the drinks down. The drinks are very expensive, as expected, but at half price, they are fairly affordable. Food was very expensive as well, but if you just munch while you drink, it ends up not busting your budget. It ended up being about $25 a person for upwards of 3 drinks a head. Try out the Trefethen Chardonnay; it is quite awesome. The fries are crisp and plentiful. The portabello fries are awesome. They are lightly battered and covered in aioli and red chili sauce. Definitely pricey at $14 an order, though. The Deck is my #1 recommendation for anyone looking for a light snack, delicious drinks, and an amazing view and atmosphere. Get to the Gondola before the summer is over. read more

Came here on a Thursday on a suggestion from a friend, and man was it a good decision. Parked in the large parking lot. Tip: the gondola is NOT the same as the aerial tram. The gondola is named "The Bridger". It is $30+ to ride if not after 4:30pm. Heard it could get busy, so we were at the resort by 4:10pm to check out the lines. No one at 4:05, but the line started forming around 4:15pm and was about 40 people long by 4:25pm. Granted, there seemed to be a wedding celebration that was going to be taking place up on the Deck so that could have accounted for that. However, the operator says that the line does build quickly. The Deck is first come first serve and seat yourself. We snagged a table at the edge of the deck for unobstructed views and ample picture opportunities. They served a selection of 4 small plates -- the fried portabello mushrooms were a treat. The sliders were quite pricey at $16 for 3, and the edamame could be considered a steal at $9 for the amount that they give you. We were pretty much filled after all the small plates -- also had sweet potato fries-- that we didn't grab dinner afterwards. Service was great, attentive, and the atmosphere was wonderful with some live music. However, the band probably shouldn't dedicate a Nelly hip-hop song to the couple-- especially if there are some expletives and not so PG words mixed in there since it was more of a family environment. Beers averaged around $6-7 and wine at $10, Arnold Palmer $3. If you factor in the free gondola ride and the whole eating atop a mountain experience, definitely a need-to-do in Jackson! read more

Drink review: amazing drinks with a breathtaking view. We had gone to Grand Teton at the end of summer at Labor Day weekend and visited Teton Village. At this time the cable car to the restaurants was free so we decided to chill out there for sometime. The view was amazing and the service was also good. We tried the John Daly and the Spicy Margarita. John Daly had sweet tea vodka and lemonade and was a good mix of lemony and sweet flavors. If you like spicy drinks I would highly recommend the Spicy Margarita. The jalapeño infused tequila was awesome. Enjoy the view and have a drink. It is worth it. read more

Great rest stop along the way on rendezvous mtn if your hiking up or down. We did the tram down path to this spot for a quick hike. Just the views themselves sitting on the patio are worth the ride up. Small bites were very good. Portobello fries are legit as we're the normal hand cut fries. A colleague ordered the pork sliders and raved about them. A must if your in the area and want an amazing breathtaking view while enjoying some drinks. read more

I love The Deck because of its view and food. I had the best edamame I've ever had and the best brisket sliders. To get to the deck you can take a hike or a gondola up to the restaurant. You get the best view over Teton village and the mountains. This is a place I highly recommend. read more

In the summer, the gondola opens up at 4:30pm and happy hour goes until 6. The food menu is very basic (all appetizers/to share plates) with about 5 items total. The drink menu is probably triple that size and includes specialty mixed drinks, local beers, and all the normal stuff as well. If you are going with a group, or even two or three people, finding a table can be a challenge so you may want to get in line by about 4 or risk having to wait for/fight for a table. The service is a bit hectic at best, with a different person taking your order, delivering your drinks, delivering your food, and busing your table it gets crazy. But whatever is lacking in service is made up for in views of the valley and in tasty food and drinks. Worth spending an evening there and much cheaper than the tram ride all the way to the top. read more

Go during happy hour which gives you a little break on drinks.
