    Guac on bagel with salmon?
    Andrea S.

I hate to say this but this was pretty bad. The only good thing about the experience was the style of the bar/restaurant which was beautiful. However I took my mom here today for Mother's Day brunch and it was , I hate to say this but awful. I really don't like giving bad reviews but they were severely understaffed which took about 35 minutes for them to come to the table to take our drink and food orders. we were supposed to get mimosas immediately but that came out about 40 min after our food. The drip coffee was 5 dollars each. I ordered the salmon bagel sandwich which tasted old and not fresh. It came out with the bagel covered in guacamole which it didn't come with and I didn't order so I asked for it to not have guac on my salmon sandwich and it took another 30 minutes to get me a toasted bagel. My moms food was fine she said. You can't mess up scrambled eggs. Don't come here.

This is a great place to come for drinks at the bar as their drinks were very good. The food and service fell short. We did come on NYE and they were understaffed it seemed so hope that is not the normal experience. If you are staying at the hotel, then this would be convenient at least. The restaurant itself had a cool ambiance and decor. The lemon dessert came out totally frozen which was hard to eat but it was very delicious. We had a party of 5 and 2 ordered the filet and they were both overcooked. The halibut was ok but it was covered with a charcoal garlic and coconut sauce that made the dish look unappealing. It was also served with the same veggies as the filet. I would come here for drinks again.

I dined at the Dan as a solo valentines endeavor. The vibe was romantic and I was seated very quickly. They had a special valentines day menu, but I'm sure some of these items are on the standard menu as well. I was suggested this cute drink (pictured). It was stronger than expected and the flavor was not as layered as you'd expect considering how visually attractive the drink is. I ordered a chicken entree and this was the most disappointing part. The chicken looked undercooked and rushed, then the sauce was shallowly flavored. Very mayonnaise heavy and was kinda just slapped onto the chicken. I didn't end up finishing my dinner. I did receive a nice surprise though when the waiter brought out some cotton candy. I love cotton candy so that was really a treat. There is limited street parking as it's located downtown, but there are some nearby parking lots

The food was amazing! with a large party they accommodated us flawlessly. our server heath was a delight. 10/10 would recommend.

The Dan was certainly an experience! The dining room is super cute and the ambience is very sultry. The Caesar salad was a little soggy, but good flavor overall. The lamb Pappardelle was delicious and would recommend that over the salad honestly but could use more meat as it is shredded lamb. The bread pudding was to die for and I truly enjoyed that perfectly sweet crispy yet gooey and the ice cream was delicious with it. The one thing I would complain about is that the server didn't seem as engaged and seemed disappointed that we didn't want to get appetizers. We just got drinks main course and dessert.

We came here because we were staying at the hotel and we had a credit, and it was great my husband got steak and eggs and I got the omelette the potato's. The food took forever we still had pleasant time.

We had an amazing time at The Dan! We went there to celebrate a birthday Ana it did not disappoint. There is a ton of construction outside which made the walk up not as exciting for the experience was phenomenal. Our server, Doug, was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. Across our table we had the following Jalapeño queso / not good. Not flavorful at all Brussel sprouts - AMAZING!!! Branzino - WONDERFUL Truffle sachetti - wow! So good!! The brown butter bread pudding - Phenomenal The cocktails were also pretty good and we loved that the check came with cotton candy. The only reason why we didn't give it five stars is because of the queso, all the construction, and we still had to walk from the valet station.... But valet was only $10 which was nice

Before hitting a show at the Straz, I was excited to try this place out. The ambiance from even outside with the NY-style scaffolding to the lovely rich interior as you walk in felt like we had a great place in downtown to eat! We were seated and our server was nice and attentive...we ordered some apps and one in our party is GF AND DF! That's quite a combo, so we had some questions and we opted for a couple of appetizers. One was the deviled eggs, we weren't sure if there was dairy or not in these, so we also ordered the hummus which was supposed to be rainbow carrots (as you can see in the picture, it was your normal ordinary bunch of orange carrots). While we were enjoying these, as the flavors were good! We learned that the deviled eggs were both GF AND DF! Unfortunately our friend who couldn't eat those things did not get to have any. They put in for another order for us, that was very nice!! and appreciated. Both appetizers were yummy. I'd order them each again, although would really like the actual rainbow carrots (so include the whites and purples next time). Here is where the show really went down. We had all ordered the salmon. The salmon tasted ok. They were all just a bit overcooked. And the vegetables were like straight out of the Publix frozen mixed veggies box. Without any flavor or seasoning. Literally with the lima beans and corn... They did add some halved grape tomatoes and scallions, but even with that, flavorless vegetables! Coupled with the slightly overcooked texture of the fish, it just ruined the whole vibe. The check came in a book, all discreet-like. Cute touch. Again, our service was good, we enjoyed the ambiance, but the food is really what you're there for and it sadly just wasn't worth what you're paying these prices for.

When I'm traveling in a new city, it's rare for me to find myself dining or imbibing in the hotel that I'm also staying at--I want to get out and check out all the hidden gems and just walk around and happen upon places somewhat organically. But The Dan is a little hidden gem of its own, and I recommend it even if you're not staying at the hotel. The cocktails are fun and playful, really well-made. Even the classics come out stunning! The food menu is paired down and I'm a huge fan of that because (usually) it means a place does those items well because they're not trying to perfect a phonebook's worth of dishes. During my stay I tried the French onion dip (loved it but could come with more chips to start), the burger (the absolute best after a long day of hoofing around Tampa on foot), and the fried chicken sandwich (good but messy)! Everything came up quickly and the ingredients were quality. The service was great! Olivia is an absolute peach! Some folks have mentioned that prices seem a bit high, but I thought they were quite reasonable, myself. Would return if I ever find myself in Tampa again!

Fried green tomatoes Caesar salad Brussel sprouts

We stayed at the Hotel Floridian and stopped by the Dan on our way out and it was delightful! We cannot recommend the fried green tomatoes enough!!! So so good. We also had the Brussels sprouts and Caesar salad which were also good. The service was superb, and the vibes were spot on. The only reason I did not give 5 stars was because of the current construction and pricey nature of the food. Oh and the check came with cotton candy such a good time!

If you are thinking about eating at The Dan, take this as your sign. My partner and I went to the Dan for our anniversary before a candlelight concert.. it was our first time there, and unsure of how busy it may be we made reservations online. It is located on the first floor of Hotel Flor, and valet is $10 if you choose to do that. The ambiance is very 1920s speakeasy vibes. Very beautiful space. When we arrived at around 4:30pm, the restaurant was mostly empty besides a few people at the bar. JJ, who was being both host and our server, greeted us immediately. He offered us to pick any table we would like, and gave us prompt and wonderful service. He was genuinely so kind and made sure we had everything we needed. He offered opinions on food options when asked and definitely steered us in the right direction with his recommendations. I ordered the truffle ravioli and my partner ordered the ribeye frites. Unfortunately due to an event at the hotel, they were out of the meat and offered to substitute it with a petite filet. When our food came out, JJ was accompanied by the manager, Daniel, who saw that the petite filet was in fact quite petite. They immediately offered several options to ensure that we left both full and satisfied. The food was amazing. The steak was cooked to perfection and the ravioli (with shrimp added on top) was to die for. We also ordered the bread pudding for dessert and wished we had ordered more because it was HEAVENLY. JJ and Daniel both continued to check in on us and make sure we had a wonderful dining experience. Daniel is a fantastic manager and truly did everything he could to ensure that we were happy. We will absolutely be repeat customers, not only because of the wonderful food and atmosphere, but mostly because of Daniel and JJ.

The Dan is located inside Hotel Flor in downtown Tampa. My sister and I dined there on a Sunday night. While the hotel itself is lovely with a chic, historic aesthetic. While the food was beautiful the taste was unfortunately, underwhelming. I ordered the crispy fried green tomatoes, truffle fries, and jalapeño queso. The queso came with only a handful of tortilla chips, and the breading on the fried green tomatoes lacked seasoning.

Braised Rib, mashed potatoes and excellent sourdough bread.

If you read my reviews, you'll see that I'm rarely negative. If something's not in my wheelhouse, I typically let people find out for themselves if it's to their liking. However, I need to open here with a couple of brief negatives. Our server didn't mention that they were out of ribeye steak, until I ordered it. Thankfully I hadn't ordered a Malbec to pair with it prior to finding out. Also, clearly forgot my soup order, and had to be reminded about basic things like "hey, every other table has bread... can we get some please?" Might have been a new server, and the Food and Beverage Manager stopped by our table (class move and much appreciated), so I'm sure he'll get the server the additional training he needs. Now for the upside, great hotel restaurant with excellent parking options (parking lot onsite was only ten bucks). Incredibly cool, speakeasy / jazz club vibe and just a great looking venue overall. Would be a great place for a pianist or torch singer, but they did a great job matching the play list with the ambience of The Dan. Had Ribeye Chili (not sure where they got the ribeye for the chili haha), Braised Ribs and Fruiti de Mare. All were stellar, across the board. Hopefully my pics give a good feel for what we had, because honestly tho I was disappointed about not getting a steak when in the mood for one, can't think of a thing we didn't like about the food portion of our experience. Try this place ASAP, highly recommend. (Gave it a four for service, but on food only The Dan is a solid 4.7 - 4.8).

The ambiance was nice. A lot of eclectic paintings on the walls. And loved the outfits of the servers. Very 20's speakeasy. There is a live jazz band that started performing at 7 pm. They were good but at some points it was a bit difficult to speak and listen to those at your table unless you got really close. My meal hit the spot. We started with a charcuterie board for the table. It had a lot of great options like dried apricots, actual honeycomb pieces, and my most favorite cheese, some Brie cheese. The only thing was there was only 4 pieces of bread, one for each of us, which wasn't enough but I guess it made sense not to fill us up too much. For my main meal I had the sweet potato salad which was very tasty and the sweet potato risotto, which a little spicy kick. The only thing I missed was the Brussels sprouts and potatoes but was told that was from the previous chef. But they serve you enough so you definitely will have left overs. Not a big fan of eating in the lounge areas, those are best just for drinks and maybe desserts. But it's definitely a great place to people watch. You will definitely have a meal and a show no matter what. Hopefully can schedule another time to bring my family because I know they would love it.

It's got that all-around fun, energetic atmosphere that makes it a solid choice for drinks. Not sure how it is during the week, but it would make for a fun date night spot to grab some cocktails. That said, I had a real hang-up the last time I went with my girlfriend around Christmas. They tried to hit us with a $10 cover just to get in, on top of $15-20 cocktails. I don't mind paying for a nice spot, but the cover felt absurd, especially since it wasn't even busy. The bouncer said we could make a reservation to avoid it, so I did...and then he made us stand outside forever before letting us in. At that point, we should've just left, but since my friend had never been, we stuck it out to try the themed Christmas cocktails. Once inside, there was a two-drink minimum per person, which is kind of crazy. It feels like they jip you either way...cover or no cover, minimum spend or not. While waiting outside (for no real reason, since it was empty), we chatted with a party of six who came straight from Ash (the sister restaurant upstairs). They'd just spent over $1,000 on their meal and were still getting charged a cover to enter Alter Ego. That's poor business, don't force extra fees to guarantee money when good music, drinks, and vibes should bring people in naturally and make them want to spend. There's plenty of places on Water Street with great (and I'd say better) cocktails where you're not forced into minimums or covers. The Christmas cocktail menu was disappointing too, poor selections and way too sugary. Love the potential here, but the strict policies really turned me off and made me want to go elsewhere next time.
