We went to 1983 Friday night with a larger group. I want to be fair... I understand slower service with a big party, and that really wasn't the issue. I've actually been here before for lunch and had a much better experience. This time, though, the food quality was really disappointing for the price point. The Chicken Tender Tower honestly tasted like frozen grocery store chicken that was reheated... not crispy, not flavorful, and definitely not what you'd expect for around $40. The fries also tasted straight out of a frozen bag. The steak nachos were another letdown. The cheese tasted overly processed and cheap, almost like bagged grocery store cheese instead of fresh queso or real melted cheese. I don't mind paying premium prices if the food quality matches, but this visit felt way overpriced for what was served. Service was lacking, our server wasn't able to make any liquor recommendations for a mojito. I ordered the chicken caesar wrap specifically with no croutons due to a preference, yet it arrived loaded with them. I didn't send it back only because someone else in our party already had to send their food back because it was inedible. To make matters worse, we were charged $2.00 for side sauces (ranch) that arrived in metal ramekins and were barely touched, which felt like nickel-and-diming. I've actually visited 1983 multiple times and this was my 5th time there. I really thought it could be a go to spot for me! Not quite sure what direction they're going in as the menu has had changes EVERY time I went (food options and the cost of those options). Overall, the food is pretty good (nothing special) and it has a very nice vibe! There's traditional indoor seating that looks more formal, as well as covered indoor/outdoor style seating. I really loved the staff there when they initially opened, and that's what was bringing me back, but I've noticed alot of the staff (especially bartenders) is no longer there. I think ownership/management needs to iron down their vision if they want this place to truly be a staple, because it's been less busy each visit. read more

There are a bunch of arcade type of games which provides a pleasure distraction if you're looking for a kids friendly place where the adults can let the kids loss while you enjoy an adult beverage. Bunches of TVs which I imagine makes this a great place to watch sports ... though parking seemed a bit limited. Interesting enough, though I didn't check it out, but there appears to be a separate dinner type room opposite the bar/patio area. Way the low rating? Was there for happy hour and was charged $18 for their $9 happy hour expresso martini ... they did correct it but only after I pointed it out ... was a bit unsettling. 1983 is such a fun, well-rounded spot in Tampa. It's relatively new, and I went twice in the same week which says a lot. The first visit was a girls' night, and the food truly impressed us. The salmon and pasta were both excellent fresh, flavorful, and beautifully plated. Everything felt elevated but still comforting. I loved it so much that I suggested we come back that same week for Football Sunday, and it ended up being the perfect game-day spot. We sat outside, there were plenty of TVs, and the vibe was lively without feeling overwhelming great for groups. They also have an arcade, which adds a fun touch for both kids and adults. The staff was genuinely kind and welcoming during both visits, which really made the experience even better. Parking was easy during the weekday with a lot in the back. On Sunday, valet was required (likely due to the crowd) and was around $5 totally reasonable. I want to start by saying the service provided by Andrew was outstanding. From the moment we arrived, he offered thoughtful recommendations and remained attentive throughout our entire visit, which really elevated the experience. We ordered the French dip sandwich, the staff special featuring kabobs and pasta with the vodka sauce and wings. The French dip sandwich was excellent--perfectly prepared and full of flavor. The staff special was equally delicious, and the wings were a standout as well. The margarita bucket, however, was a bit underwhelming. The quantity didn't quite meet expectations, which was the only slight disappointment of the evening. After dinner, we spent some time in the game room, which turned out to be a fun way to unwind and burn off a few calories--definitely a nice added touch to the overall experience. Fun place for the family in South Tampa. My kids are still at that age where they love Dave N Busters. But that's in Brandon. I'm not saying that 1983 is the equivalent to DNB. It's not. Their arcade is smaller and more expensive. But it can scatch an itch when the kids want to play video games and I don't feel like driving to Brandon. I made reservations on Opentable, and the table was ready when we arrived. We had a nice seat in the main dining room. Lots of games going on in the background, but we could hold a conversation. The menu was fine for what it was. Nothing particularly innovative, but then neither is DNB. My daughter loved that she had so many options with her kids meal (she chose the mac and cheese, the french fries, the gummi bear lemonade, and the scoop of vanilla ice cream). My husband got a burger, which he described as "fine." He asked for a side salad with ranch instead of the fries, and he said that they were rather stingy with the dressing, to the point that he had to ask for more. I had the spinach and bacon salad with skirt steak. It was pretty good. The steak was cooked to medium rare, which I liked. The beverage menu was fine, more in line with a restaurant focused on brunch than dinner, but I guess that's what the beer was for! The wine list was not impressive for a restaurant that offers a $69 ribeye. My first choice of beer was out, and the second choice only had half a glass left in the tap (she brought it to me for free). I ordered a glass of the only rose on the menu, and it was fine but not worth reordering. All in all, it was a fine meal out, but it wasn't fine dining. I came here with down friends for a birthday. Let me start by saying that the arcade area was not as good as I was expecting. It's more geared towards kids in my opinion than adult. Every other Arcade bar concept I've been to has been an adult arcade vibe so I was expecting something similar when I tried '83. My friend and I went for lunch on a Saturday and sat outside. We immediately regretted the decision, as the patio is next to the arcade, which is designed for kids. The patio was chaos. The music was loud and there were kids running around everywhere. At that point we were committed so we decided to get our food and leave asap. Well, so much for that plan. Our server was nice enough, took our drink and food orders fairly promptly. However, after about 45 minutes of waiting, I was about ready to up and leave. The server had come to our table three or four times saying the food would be out any minute. Eventually the manager came over and said the kitchen was backed up, even though at that point many of the tables were either served food or done eating. Another table was sat after us, and got food before we did. He blamed the wait on the chicken breast that had to go on my friends salad, which was a weak excuse. Our food comes, I had a turkey blt with avocado and waffle fries. When I ordered it, she gave me the selection of fries and didn't bother to mention that waffle fries were an extra charge. By the time I got them, my expensive fries were. The inside of the restaurant looked nicer, I am not sure if the service is better in there. All in all, to pay $30+ for a mediocre sandwich, fries, and iced tea in a chaotic environment with slow service seems a bit steep and I can't say I'm in a hurry to come back. read more

They do have valet for $7 but there were spots available across the street for free. - Drinks - The margarita was a favorite for our group. It was delicious and was on the stronger side which I prefer but certainly on the more expensive side at $16 each. - Food - The food was pretty good and didn't take too long to come out. We were able to see the different tv screens to follow the football games and the weather wasn't bad at all so it was pretty comfortable. They have an arcade setup inside. It's not free which sucks but it cute if you want to take the fun inside. - Conclusion - Would recommend for others to check this place out. It's not a place you stay for long and is definitely on the more costly side but the service, food and drinks make it worth it. Oh, how I dreamed of a place like this when the kids were little - a kid friendly bar close to home with entertainment for everyone. I would have been happy to take shifts watching the kids in the game room while adults watched the game on the other side of the restaurant. The restaurant is beautifully designed, light and bright with high ceilings, a change from your typical dark sports bar. On the other side are the games, which consisted of what you'd find at a skating rink or bowling alley, not the nostalgia of the 80s, but your kids will be pleased. They will probably enjoy the menu more than we did. Lots of fried foods, nachos, flat breads, pasta, etc. The menu didn't appeal to me much, but the atmosphere was nice and the staff was great, so I would come back for sure. read more

The atmosphere at 1983 was great and our server was also wonderful--friendly, attentive, and clearly trying his best throughout the night. Unfortunately, the food experience didn't quite match the rest. I ordered the steak slider special, and the first slider I bit into was completely raw. It hadn't even been seared on one side and was cold in the middle. The other sliders were also undercooked, which made me realize no one had asked how I wanted the steak cooked. I typically order medium rare, but this was far beyond that--it was simply raw. Our waiter came over and was very polite about it. Even he looked at it and said something along the lines of, "Oh wow, you probably want that cooked a bit more," which I appreciated because he acknowledged the issue right away. They did take it back and fix it. However, when the manager brought the corrected plate out, the interaction felt a bit dismissive. The comment was something like, "Here's your up-cooked food," said in a way that felt like they were doing me a favor rather than addressing the fact that the slider had come out raw and not even seared on one side. There was also a remark along the lines of, "If anyone else needs their food up-cooked let me know," which didn't really acknowledge the actual issue with the dish. I also couldn't help but notice that our waiter was outside making drinks for a while, which made it seem like the restaurant might have been understaffed or not utilizing staff in the most efficient way. Overall, the atmosphere and service from our waiter were great, and there's definitely potential here. I'd be open to trying it again. That said, given the reputation of this hospitality group, I did expect a bit more attention to detail from the kitchen and management. read more

Our family of four recently visited 1983 for lunch and to play games afterwards in the game room. Unfortunately there was a private party that Saturday afternoon so we were unable to check out the game room, but we did have lunch during our visit. My husband and I are not sport fans so we were not there for the sports playing on the flatscreens that covered every wall of the restaurant, but we did love how family friendly the restaurant was and we were never worried if our boys were talking too loud. My husband had been to 1983 for a business meeting a few days prior to our visit and knew he wanted to order the chicken tenders and waffle fries tower for the table. The tower included our choice of five sauces. The roasted garlic aioli was my favorite sauce and I regretted not ordering more aiolis and instead of the mediocre Thai chili sauce and barbecue sauce we ordered. The Vietnamese salsa was good, but the texture was more like a chunky relish and it was awkward to try to dunk the tenders and fries in it. We paid $5 more for the cheese fondue sauce and it was delicious, but the portion was incredibly tiny for $5. I would like to try some other items on the menu since I typically don't order chicken tenders and fries. The one wildly disappointing item on the menu were the martinis. I ordered the martini flight and it ranged from overly sweet to some of the worst martinis I have ever had. I selected the Espresso Martini, French Martini, Lemon Drop and Dirty Martini as my four choices. The presentation was super fun, but the taste was absolutely awful. I do prefer a top shelf vodka or gin in my martinis, but I suspect that the mixers and the bartender were at fault. The espresso martini was very odd in taste. I believe that the bartender used a coffee liqueur instead of espresso in the martini. The French Martini was overly sweet, but not nearly as offensive as the Lemon Martini that tasted like lemon household cleaning products. Please consider using fresh juices in your cocktails: it makes such a huge difference! The Dirty Martini should be banned from this restaurant because it was criminally bad. It reeked of cheap Vermouth. Personally I swirl just a few drops of Vermouth in my martini glass and then I toss out any excess in the sink. I then use a combination of 3 parts vodka/gin and one part olive juice to make the filthiest Dirty Martini. Feel free to steal my recipe. It's delicious and my friends and family agree that it's the best! We will definitely return, especially to see the game room, but I will skip the cocktail menu in the future and stick with a beer or bottled beverage. read more

Got to try out the new 1983! Took the place of Datz, and it's such a gorgeous restaurant! Completely renovated, lots of screens but still quiet and great for a ladies night/lunch or brunch! Unknowingly came during the soft launch and sat at the bar. They have a beautiful 1930s restaurant on one side and a bar with an arcade on the other side. I ordered the Heritage and Swine pizza which was delicious and a kiwi cocktail. The arcade was busy full of parents and their children and the restaurant was more quiet. Great concept for this area! Of course South Tampa gets a family forward, kid friendly place after I moved to Carrollwood- go figure! This is in the old Datz and Dough location. The parking is annoying and they offer valet which I have always hated but you can park on the street which we did. This is a restaurant, bar, greenspace, and game room. It is great for families who want to have adult convos and kids who want to game. They have indoor seating as well as outdoor seating. The game room is pretty loud and the prices are pretty high. We had a tower of fries and Caesar salad which is a really odd mix but somehow satisfying. The fries were good and the salad was ok-needs a better dressing I think. I ordered via the bar which was slammed but the service was decent enough. 5 stars for idea and layout, 3 stars for food, 1 star for parking, and 2 stars for price. read more

The groom is 27 years old and presented a valid government-issued ID, yet the staff refused to serve him with no clear explanation. What made it worse was the attitude--staff were rude, dismissive, and told him "pass it along, buddy" instead of handling the situation professionally. No effort to clarify, no respect, just poor customer service. If you're planning a group outing or looking to have a good time, I'd strongly recommend going somewhere else. Really fun new addition to south tampas dining scene. We decided to check it out last minute and were so pleased we did. Valet up front or self parking on the side streets. Fresh and bright inside with a lovely scent (think edition vibes). Big bar in the middle and plenty of booths and tables all around. We started with cocktails (both very good) and their local beer & cider menu is also on point. True to its "glamorous sports bar vibe" it has big screen tvs all around and super high up so no one standing near the bar will block. Our server Ebony was FANTASTIC; she took the time to explain some highlights of the menu and tell us about not only her preferences but what she has seen be popular. The table next to us had wings and a flatbread that both looked delicious. We had the nachos with chicken to start. Nachos were a super generous portion and perfectly portioned and topped. For mains we split the smash burger with a side of the zucchini fries. The smash burger was delicious. Genuinely delicious. Creamy American, perfectly shredded lettuce, cold crispy tomato and pickle.
