As you can see, Dam Dogs {above} does not skimp on toppings.

Greetings chili dog fans! I tried The Corner Bar once again since my last visit several years ago. I was disappointed the quality did not improve. Back in the late 70's, they had a much better chili dog. I learned that Dam Dog, just around the corner, offered an alternative option. I couldn't resist doing a comparison. Both dogs were similarly priced and were served up with cheese, onions, and beanless chili sauce. Dam Dogs won with flavor, sausage size & taste, and generous toppings. This comparison took place on 12/10/21

Great location and customer service. But the Dam Dogs corn dogs are soggy dogs. Microwaved. Not crispy. Bummer.

Great hotdogs. Good toppings and good service, but the best thing was the steamed buns. Was fantastic, enjoyed every bite. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars was the condiment ratio was off. I.E. my daughter's hotdog had too much relish and not enough mayo and I asked for light mustard and ranch and got almost none. If it hadn't been for the steamed buns, it would have been dry. But that just means next time we'll need to be more specific, because there will definitely be a next time.

The hot dogs here are so good! My husband and I loved this place. I got the Croton, with sauerkraut and mustard and relish. Loved it. Only cost about $3.25! Next time I want to try the walking taco. The inside looks like an old 90s diner (yellow subway booths and black and white checked floors)--but it's a hot dog place so I'm not complaining.

Pretty good dogs! Would try the Angus beef dog for extra flavor next time. Clean booths, quick counter service and very friendly staff.

Nice simple place to eat by the dam on a picnic table, dining inside was like eating at an ice cream shop. Good dogs.

Not your normal beef stand with this cool of an interior groove. Had the hotdog and Italian beef. Poppyseed bun on dog was soft as a Twinkie and the dog was the real deal. My cousin and I sat at the bar, and you can get full service at the bar. She ordered a hot dog and I had a pizza. The hot dog came with that weird neon relish, in typical Chicago fashion, and was on a poppyseed bun. The fries are crinkle cut, and I don't know what seasoning they use, but it was so good! A little sweetness mixed in with the spices. The pizza was good; thin crust and cut square style like they do in Chicago, which I forgot about and kind of hate. I should've asked for silverware, but didn't. Next time I'd ask for it pie cut instead. The flavor was really good though. It was a bit pricey for what it was - it was a 12" pizza, and each topping an additional $3. $21 just seems high to me for a thin crust pepperoni mushroom pizza. I had draft beer and my cousin had a mixed drink. She had no complaints about hers, and mine was quite good! So many places draft beer tastes a little soapy, whether it's the way the clean their lines or how they wash their glasses, but I didn't taste any of that here. There aren't many choices on draft but was a good variety. They also have a full bar and lots of canned beverage choices. They don't have the healthiest menu, but that's not surprising since they're known for Chicago hot dogs, Italian beef, and pizza. If you know what you're going for it's perfect! The vibe is good. The space is pretty open, gets a decent amount of light, is clean, and there is parking! The restrooms are tiny, but clean, and I appreciate that after you wash your hands the door opens out so you don't have to touch a handle. We went on a Monday after work, which does turn into karaoke night, but we had time for a couple drinks and food before that really got going. It also wasn't crazy in there and we could still carry on a conversation at the bar without having to yell. I'm glad I finally made it in, and fully appreciate having them in the North Monroe area. I will definitely plan to have more happy hours here!

We took our food to go and it only took about 10 minutes for our food to come out. My chicken quesadilla was phenomenal and the cheese pull was impressive. For a place that seems to specialize in fries, the other items are also fantastic. I tried one of the fries and they definitely deserve to have the restaurant named after them. My husband loved his burger and even told me he was glad I suggested we try something new over going to a fast food spot. We will definitely be back sooner than later.

Back when I first started coming here, they had the regular flat bottomed containers to put fries in. Last time I went, they gave me a container that has dividers in it which reduced the amount of fries they gave me. I'm a small person, it normally takes me almost an hour to eat a large portion of fry nations fries and most of the time my husband has to finish it for me, but I was able to finish the entire container in less than 15 minutes. If they go back to using the flat bottomed containers I might come back, or if they fix their prices since we're now paying the same price for less.

Ronnie Mack's is the only meal food vendor, but there is also a bakery. We came down on a Friday around 430 and not a minute too soon because the line went from 1 group to 4+ in the blink of an eye! There is a unique selection of food - sliders, hash, subs, tacos, hot dogs, and sides! All very appealing! I will say there is no "kid" menu but we made it work with hotdogs! Also, no alcohol is served in this open area. Hubby got the Cuban hash and devoured it. I got the Cuban meal and couldn't finish it - even though I wanted to! We brought a couple of our younger kiddos to Ronnie Mack's to pass the time while we waited for our older kids to finish up some weekend business they had outside of town. We had never been here before, but the great reviews drew us in. I got a cuban sandwich and my husband got a hash. My cuban was incredible, but when I got a bite of my husband's hash, I was blown away. My kids got standard dogs (they don't know how to venture into the great unknown with trying new foods yet), and they were pleased. While we were eating, Ronnie called us over for a surprise bonus to our meal and asked us to give him some feedback on new flavors he was trying out. I don't want to give away the surprise, but once again, I don't know how many times I can express being "blown away". His knowledge and expertise with flavor profiles and balance is superior to most of what I have had. And I am well traveled! Ronnie, thank you for your generosity and kindness. If we ever find our way back down in Sparta, we will certainly be coming back to see you!
